Nevertheless, compared to the inevitable happenings in Western Europe it's going to be a very good place to live. Superpower? No. Not just in 10 years scale. Probably never. The population is too small. And, even with the current GDP growth, which has been very impressive for 25 years, we are still behind Western Europe.

But I think that in 20 years it's possible for Poland to become a regional power. With the current GDP growth in 20 years we should have a level of wealth comparable to Italy, but with a homogeneus population, more patriotic people, better military and possibly good trade relations with other fast developing countries in the region. In the meantime western Europe will strugle under the pressure of inflating welfare, which they will be afraid to cut, as that would lead to riots among non-native population.

At that point it would only be a matter of getting nukes, which isn't that hard.

And it's pretty much what Friedman predicted in The Next 100 Years. Perhaps he's not 100% spot on, and tends to colour things a bit, but the dynamics that he writes about (western Europe going to shit, Russia needing to focus on itself, EE developing steadily) are definatelly there.

Not anymore. 42 mln as of 2015. And out of this around 8-10 mln live in territories that are either disputed (Crimea) or where Kiev government does not have full authority.

From here the situation could go in two directions.
