At the risk of derailing the thread, since there a lot of others here with their own strong opinions, I'll just state that I believe that it is possible for someone to achieve salvation if - through no fault of their own - they are not aware of Christianity.
However, I don't like speculating on this because it's presumptuous. I don't know God well enough to say with certainty, so I make an allowance that I may be wrong.
In any case, if an atheist is unaware of Christianity, there must be no Christians around him, since they would be morally culpable for his ignorance. Which means there would have to be no Christians around them, and so forth. Ultimately there would have to be zero Christians in the world for there to be no culpability. Since that isn't the case, there is culpability regardless.

The reason why I'd despise Christianity more has to do with forbidding or describing as evil a lot of the things Classical pagans found good like wealth. This logic is very simple. You can follow it. Here it is:
A religion is based on belief. A race is based on genetic lineage. A person can change their beliefs through religious conversion. A person cannot change their genetic lineage through religious conversion. Therefore, a person who converts their beliefs, retains their genetic lineage.
With that logic, which you cannot refute, the only thing you have left is to claim that not only did Jews originate in Israel, but that, despite being likely the most nomadic and spread out group in human history, retained all racial purity and identity through matrilineal descent despite thousands of thousands of proven and known conversions both into and out of the religion.
In order to believe that, you would have to believe that Jews are actually superhuman in their ability to select for converts, select for spouses, allow for converts out, etc. All while being spread across the planet thinner than any other group. It's my thoughts that we're either in or getting very near to the time of Revelation. Never really took Christianity too seriously until a few weeks ago. I'm still learning the ropes of what to do, but everything that I've encountered both personally and through research has led me to believe that Christ and YHVH are the truth in this world. I was contentedly back-burner pagan until a couple of weeks ago, when out of the blue I read a story about the new lab tests they did on the Shroud of Turin that validated its age and authenticity.
Then I got curious, and found out that Britain became Christian almost overnight in the 1-2nd century A.D. and why. I had only heard the names "Joseph of Arimathea" or "Church of Glastonbury" like once or twice in my life.
Then I found that assembly of true Israel site and it all clicked. The theory makes sense. It all checks out and dispels a lot of the confusion and alienation I felt towards Christianity. I agree with you, I think people who are willing to answer the subtle pull are getting called home in preparation for end times.

We have God's word, and it clearly states that Christ is the only way. Someone who lives their whole life unaware of Christ, through no fault of their own, is still unsaved as it was never part of God's plan to save them. They are still damned due to their sins and everyone is aware of the moral law as it is written on our hearts.
Almost everyone is aware of Christianity now, however God has only chosen some people to accept the word. The majority are unable to believe no matter how much a Christian evangelizes to them. Read the parable of the sower - "He who has ears to hear, let him hear". A Christian's responsibility is to preach the gospel universally, not convert; they aren't morally culpable if someone rejects the word - "If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet." (Matt 10:14).

I didn't imply that they were morally culpable for the rejection of the person they evangelized to, assuming they evangelized in good faith in with all their heart and soul. If they "half-assed' it, then yes, they could still be culpable.
However what I stated is that any Christians present who do not evangelize to the atheists are culpable in his atheism as well. I think that's pretty obvious.
On the save/unsaved question pertaining to the person unaware of Christ: there are some flaws with your argument, which is why I reject it. However I do accept that I could be wrong. In either case it isn't likely that you will change my mind and it isn't likely that I will change yours. That is why I generally avoid these details.
The reason I disagree with you, however, is that God conferred free will upon us. If I know of a theoretical tribe in Madagascar that has never heard of Christ, then I'm obligated to try to get the Good News to them. I can't just say "well, if it were God's plan, there would be a Madagascarian Jesus born there to save them, so it's not my problem." If that logic held true, evangelization itself would be a non-sequitur, since, if it were God's will that they be preached to, He would have sent someone else to do it. The person sent, obviously, is you.
Assuming the tribe is totally unknown Christendom: again, there's no reason to assume the individuals can't find salvation. We can't presume to know God's will. It's just that simple. Maybe it wasn't God's plan that they find salvation. Conversely, maybe if some were moral and upright, it was for those individuals. Quite simply: we don't know for certain, and speculation is fruitless, regardless of which answer one arrives at.
