I'm an engineer and make good money. I spent most of my years learning more about my interests which lucky for me are also my job. I thought about selling software, but after releasing it for free and ending up with so few users, I doubt I'd have many people eager to buy my software.

I'm sadly not qualified to do any of those jobs as I'm still in college, but I'll consider some similar program once I graduate. Studying civil engineering right now.

I got close to working at a warehouse, except my contact got another job, quit his old one and is now somehow unemployed from his new job within a week.

Also about that software you made, was it some high demand software or was it some very niche software? Have you tried developing apps? I hear it pays well.

App development is like this, if your app is the only app that does X, you can charge the people that really need X done as much as you like. That being said, if people really need X, you better bet there's already apps that do it and making another one will either mean charging money will restrict your usershare or you're basically making something competitive with the other apps... Usually for free.

Tldr everything that has been written already has been written, competition is intense.

Well, the current status quo never remains...The future will be there. Question is, what will it look like on the current course? I don't think the current level of prosperity in the US is sustainable unless we start changing things. I don't know much about what that means for other places. I like Trump's idea of lowering taxes for businesses to create more jobs and increase import taxes for US companies that produce offshores. What do you guys think about that? Good for everyone? What kind of software did you do?
Perhaps there's resources that you've not tapped yet. A guy I know for example develops a web-based platform for a repo firm, tailor made for their needs. It's a pretty ugly looking software, but it does the job. The good part about business software is that you often don't have to worry about fancy GUIs.
Sometimes what you need is to find the right customer with the right unsatisfied need.

It's a networking library, it's pretty decent despite a little minimal and hacksy. I kind of left it at that because I wanted to keep it benchmarking fast.

How about trying your luck at sectors usually neglected by women? They can't give your job to a woman if there's none willing to do it. I tend to think of accountancy and other similar software as an example of this, but maybe I'm wrong. I can also see why such software would be boring to make though, but it could make you enough money to move to another country or something.

First off, I'd rather continue with my career than starting a new one. People tell me to start trades, but I see that as getting to level 5 in one game only to consistently fail at the boss of the level (fisty splinters), give up and start at level 1 of another game. I hope you NEETs understand that metaphor.

The other issue is on all STEM there's a sort of hierarchy. If they can't hire a woman, they'll hire a minority. If they can't hire a minority, they'll hire the fag with stretchers and tattoos, but by that stage there's so many Indians applying from India looking for an easy route into the west (which to them is just role playing what they see on western soap operas) that the guy at the end of the hierarchy doesn't have much chance.

I love programming, I even love it when it's boring. I wouldn't want to trade it for fixing toilets. I've done plumbing, it was horrible and I didn't even get paid.

I'm not saying you should take some shitty job forever, just long enough to make enough money to move to greener pastures. An example of a trade that wouldn't be a complete reset, how about something related to CNC machine programming?

Also have you tried freelancing? There's sites where employers demand jobs and you take them, one of the advantages of programming is that it can easily done across the world. Professions dealing with tangible goods don't have that luxury.
