The gun is typically lighter than you would expect. when you pick one up, assuming it is well designed like AK or AR series, it will be surprisingly intuitive.

Gun ergonomics for any modern weapon are really quite good. taking a broom stick or something and mocking the position of holding a rifle is actually not a bad facsimile for the feeling.

as for the actual firing, it's surprisingly quick and non-eventful. you'll slowly pull the trigger (if it;s your first time), feel the resistance against your finger increase slightly as it travels back towards you, and suddenly boom - the weapon will kick back into your shoulder, you'll feel a little puff of pressure across your face and hands, hear a crack, all of it over before you fully register what just happened. then your mind will catch up, realize that you just sent a piece of lead flying downrange at some multitude of the speed of sound, and you'll respond with one of two emotions

1) "WHOOO THAT WAS AWESOME!
2) "WAAHHHH I HAVE PTSD"
3) some mixture of the above two, which is what a lot of non-burgers get when they try it for the first time.

Once you really get it down and used to it, it's really, really satisfying and comfortable - the cause and effect of trigger - boom - hit is almost hypnotic, like a private rhythm. it's hard to describe. in fact, once your use to it, not having those sensations when you pull the trigger becomes very disconcerting and unnatural,
