We don't. Atheism in itself is a precursor of Islam, doesn't make sense to them since they've got the real deal already.

Islam is a religion with a god.
Atheism is no gods, no religion.
The Abrahamic religions have been at it for thousands of years and nothing to show for it but a mountain of dead bodies and rivers of blood.
Atheism is the only real cure for the cancer that is religion.

The opposite is true. Zealots are prone to fall for whatever religion or superstition or fairy tales that come down the road. Their ability to think critically is severely damaged from years of failing to stop their suspended disbelief.
Atheists already have the rational capacity to reject religious nonsense and are FAR less likely to join any irrational belief system unless the Christians are burning witches or hanging atheists for sport again - then they'll pretend to be religious only at gunpoint.

Communism is a stateless society. A theism is a godless society. The premise is that no god or government rules over a truly free man. (Think Tom Sawyer, Rush)
Stalin was an orthodox seminary student for years. He knew the church was corrupt in Russia. The church could easily coronate a new king and Stalin would be out of a job, so atheism was a political rejection, not a religious one.
