A well-designed flag should be simple enough a child can draw it from memory and still have it be instantly recognizable, even if imperfectly drawn. Fine details should be avoided, as they just muddle the design and can't be distinguished at a distance anyways - remember, the vast majority of the time people will see a flag it will appear no bigger than a postage stamp thanks to distance. Logos and Seals, while pretty awesome, should never be used on a flag, they belong on documents and other usages that will be seen close-up, where the detail can be appreciated. And for the love of god NEVER put text on your flag - I'm looking at you, 50% of US State flags.
