I think a lot of people were predicting this anyway, on here at least.
What's interesting to me is that the more I think about it, the more it seems like this debate, and the behind the scenes stuff surrounding it (polls, moderator, teleprompter built into her podium, hopped up on anti-seizure drugs, primed the prepared "Miss Piggy" attack for the media to release this week, bought off Holt, sabotaged Trump's mic, etc.), was Hillary unloading everything she had. All her attack-points, calling in all the favors, and the dirty tricks she could think of, this was Hillary at 100%.
And she got a draw. Trump was operating well-below capability, and really gave her nothing at all. No gaffes, no new paths to attack, he didn't lose any supporters, she didn't gain any supporters.
And this was the absolute best Hillary could do.
I doubted myself for some time about whether "muh 5D chess" (in the case of this debate) was just wishful thinking, but the more I think about it, the more calculated it seems. Trump rarely makes mistakes. He does plenty of things that politicos *think* are mistakes, he does A/B testing (which, by its nature, will result in one or the other failing, and being discarded in favor of the successful one), but only rarely is it truly something that he didn't intend.

Digging through the Reuters/Ipsos poll raw data here is an interesting find.
Pic related is the chart of the sample size percentage by party affiliation. Each line represents the percentage of responses by each party affiliation.
For instance, the blue line in 10/06 shows that the democratic percentage of responses was 50%. That is not the actual result of the poll, but the percentage of answers by people that identified themselves as democrats.
Notice how it swings wildly along the time. I highlighted some interesting moments of the campaign trail to highlight one thing:
Reuters/Ipsos polls party affiliation ratio do not seem to be random but to correlate with events in the campaign trail.
That's a problem with self selected samples: by not being independent they end up being prey to correlation with external factors or even manipulation.
Next post will contain the same chart, but with the actual poll result to demonstrate a point.

It is remarkable that, except for specific periods, it seems that the sample size and the actual poll result roughly correlates with the percentage of voters from that party affiliation.
There could be many other explanations but one thing is apparent: in some interesting occasions the difference in sample size between democrats and republicans almost disappear, only to grow considerably right after.

This is one of the cleverest things he did, and it what has allowed him to bridge the gap between the GOP base and the moderate/independent working-class center, a task that both Romney and McCain failed to accomplish.
