I don't hit my kid. He follows my commands. If he doesn't understand something, I make it my job to teach him. If he gets an attitude, he can cry it out by himself because its not going change anything. He gets over it pretty quickly, by now he understands that the sooner he does whats told, the sooner he can go back to playing and being goofy.

I'm not into trying to soothe him and give him "its going to be okay" speeches. He's the product of a broken marriage and has a huge uphill battle in life because of the broken marriage he was born to. The sooner he learns to get over himself, the better chance he'll get over the massive shitstorm in life we created for him. Breaks my heart that I failed with his mom, but I can't fail with him because he's innocent in all of it.

You have to introduce them to society as they get older user. If you don't they will either be stunted, or will rebel against you.

You cannot forget that your kids are their own person. Not your property. They are fully capable of thinking for themselves. If they don't see the "outside" it will remain a seductive mystery.

Homeschooling for the early years is good, but you should seriously consider enrolling your kids in the public high school. Or a private high school if you don't want to go that far and can afford it.

If you don't, your kids will be stunted. Where I work we have a 16 year old bus boy. Daddy assumes he's learning about the outside world from us, but the little fledgling is just that. A fledgling. And we just ignore him. He has no idea how to interact with us, is awkward when he tries, and is generally looked upon as an object of pity.

This is why I'm sending my kids to school, but I won't make them waste their time doing homework at home. Learning will happen self-directed in the home, socializing at school.

Which is the way to approach it. Actively engage with your kids with what they are learning at school. Children are not imbeciles. They are just ignorant. Ignorance is curable. If you don't fill their need to learn, someone else will.

And school is ESSENTIAL for them growing up. Not for learning, but for learning out how to be a human being. We used to have villages, tribes, courts, etc, that we dumped our kids on to learn how to socialize, be who they are and become adults.

Not we have the High School. You CANNOT deprive your children of this. If you can afford it, go private. If you can't, send them to the public school. This is simply not an optional choice.

Either way though, you HAVE to stay engaged. Be interested in what they are learning, and if what the teacher is trying to teach is questionable, challenge it. Don't "disobey it". That makes it cool. Instead actually treat your teenager as a reasoning human being. They will respond to that level respect.
