Times are reporting that McDonnell has been linked to supporting the release of imprisoned dissident republicans as recently as 2013.
In particular one man who was imprisoned for attempted murder in 1981, Cred Forums will enjoy the story:
> On 8 March 2007 McGeough was arrested by the PSNI whilst leaving the election count centre in Omagh. > The arrest was in connection with the 1981 shooting of Sammy Brush. > Brush, who is now a councillor for the Democratic Unionist Party in Ballygawley, was delivering mail in his job as a postman near Aughnacloy when he was shot. > He was also an off-duty member of the Ulster Defence Regiment. > Brush, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest,[12] managed to return fire in the incident and shot his assailent who fled.

As a supporter of a UK federation I'm in favour of the model of:
Kingdom > Nations > Regions > County
Mostly looked at England and Wales when figuring out natural regions (not the bastard balkanisation pushed by Labour in an attempt to maximise their gains and minimise their losses) which looked at history and published data about natural regions (data out there studying the travel of money and short distance phone calls).

I didn't know much until I studied political ideology for A-level politics. The textbook I had was very useful and gave me a great basic knowledge of the origins and development of different political ideas.
Since then, I learned most of what I know about history and politics from browsing Wikipedia, and by watching Youtube videos of lectures and talks by people like Roger Scruton, Peter Hitchens, David Starkey and so on.
That said, my parents and grandparents, although left wing, were very politically engaged, so I probably had a knack for it from the start.
