Will armors like this ever be a thing?

A flexible armor suit that gives you as much protection as this, allows you to breathe in a vacuum and protects your body for impacts has got to be useful if done correctly. Will the future ever bring this?

...

yea its basically a tight astronaut suit with armor

Soon TM

Cred Forums is not the place to ask this.

A WH40k space marine would wreck any Spartan

Armor would have to be fitted for each soldier, and the cost of manufacturing said armor would be astronomical.

It's possible that armor such as this would be constructed and utilized, but only in very limited quantities.

Current tech (tanks, planes, drones, soldiers) perform much more efficiently than a squad of guys in powered armor.

Exactly like this? No. In the lore of Halo, Master Chief and all the other Spartans were subjected to crazy amounts of body modifications that would even allow them to wear the suit and not be torn apart by it, many of the subjects didn't make it or were horribly disfigured and crippled by the operations.

If you want to see what's next as far as armor, look into what DARPA has coming down the pipe. Something akin to the exosuits you would see in the movie "The Edge of Tommorow" or in Advanced Warfare.

seems too bulky in my opinion

Well I would think manufacturing automation and 3d printing could eventually make fitted armor less ineffective to produce. I agree currently that these would be less efficient but tanks are becoming less and less effective and this would become a modern tank variant.

3 words: room temperature superconductor.

Not that I think the question isn't interesting, but you'll get a far better answer at /sci/ or Cred Forums than shitposts on Cred Forums.
A lot of work is being done on modernized army suits, but for now it's mostly related to body temperature and not armor.

Some camadiam actually build a practical one and could manufacture them for 200k a piece. US governement doesnt think a soldier's life is worth that much they said

really? We always talk about military tech on here and this is future soldier bullshit

yes

not to avoid bullets as much, but slower projectiles and poisonous gasses

This was the case in the actual Spartan II program with Master Chief. All of them had individually customized armors and was part of the reason that Master Chief was arguably the most powerful spartan and the Spartan II program was ended.

Chief wasn't the most powerful he was the luckiest.

all the others died because of some bullshit that could have been avoided or went missing like kelly.

granted I've only read the first 3 books, do they expand on other things later on?

Not if we continue to spend half our money on educating, housing, feeding, and buying 40s for minorities

He was the smartest

Wrong board, but I'll answer.

We have the technology to make suits like this, however, the problem has always been power supply.

Until we have a huge breakthrough in energy storage and efficiency, that 1 ton piece of awesome turns into a paper weight in 30 minutes.

Everyone that is not white or asian is literally only a drain on the world.

when we reach the point where we're able to build that, war will be fought entirely with robots and shit

only relevant if this thing kills jews.

we need to invest in nuclear power so we have more research in energy productions of various kinds.

I don't mean that we'll necessarily have mini-nukes powering them but mini-nukes are way more viable than any of the other "eco friendly" energy sources. because you can't power a tank with a windmill and expect it to do anything very effectively.

You guys are supposed to adopt exoskeletons in 2025 for the porpose of heavy loading. youtube.com/watch?v=-UpxsrlLbpU

>Ywl to see power fists

What a time to be alive

Yes, but it won't happen until somebody goes ham in a one-of-a-kind suit.

It could be a Ned Kelly criminal, it could be a Chechen or ISIS, or it could be a nation state.

Somebody has to prove it in combat, then all nations will rush to develop and deploy their own.

By table top rules spees muhreens ain't shit.

Heres the meme suit supposed to be up and running soon. I think the helmets in F35 are closest thing to that shit right now.

Skin tight astronaut suits have massive issues with complex joints currently. Buddy of mine works in biomechanical and said that unless you want a oversized diaper for a pelvis you're going to end up with severe skin trauma in the groin with extended wear

Its already here friendos. I sell electronics to the government and military and attend different conferences. Look up the TALOS suit. Many big defense contractors are already investing/researching this armor, I think DRS Technologies is heavily involved.

He's the closest we have to Tesla, but unfortunately he's even worse at marketing his inventions

Powered exosuits? Sure. The only reason they aren't already a thing is that battery technology and lightweight materials aren't advanced enough yet for it to be practical.

Helmet is actually mostly off the shelf. Its a motorcycle helmet upped to ballistic protection with wide-angle nods.

I was a dirty pog so I only ever had a monocle nod and a CCO. They gave me a M203, which was fun although I never was in a situation to fire it outside the range, was kinda fun to bumble around Iraq with explosives on my chest.

The human form is not suited to warfare. It wont be human shaped.

>The human form is not suited to warfare meme
Thousands years of human warfare beggs to differ.

It would be great to allow soldiers to carry heavier loads. We have nothing to power anything that can do that in a way that is useful.

No, b/c of the way wars will change. WWIII will be a global, nuclear holocaust.

the life of a soldier is worth much more, perhaps a couple million for rank-and-file, much more for pilots, SOF dudes and the like
however, the economics of the thing are bad, because you can't only give the armor to the people who would be shot and killed otherwise, because you can't see into the future
so you're kitting out literally hundreds of soldiers to save one life! so a 20k vest makes sense, but a 200k full body armor is something you will maybe buy two dozen of and keep in a locker for when Seal Team Special will have to frontally assault the Big Meanie's lair or something of the kind (where you KNOW that they will all get shot)

But don't you need more andvanced ways of wrecking third world islamic shit holes for your greatest ally?

DARPA was playing around with liquid that harder when large kinetic force comes near it. Estimated cost was 3 million a suit. Around 2005.

Exo suits are also being tested for both non combat and combat purposes. So yea we might see armor like that in future. No energy shields that can stop kinetic energy yet, only ones that can stop radiation.

Pretty much this.

The major problem with power armor right now is, well, power. There are no batteries good enough, and light enough, for the task.

...But for the purpose of defending a building, or operating in another environment where being tethered to a power source is a possibility, someone could totally field a suit that you'd basically need specialist weaponry to defeat.

I can totally see someone deciding to take hostages and hole up in a building with a power suit plugged into an outlet.

...If I'm perfectly honest, though, I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the first school shooting via radio controlled drone. I doubt it's more than 10 years away.

Problem is the inertia of the brain as it floats inside the skull will make most impacts too dangerous, concussions are just your brain hitting the skull

Non-Newtonic fluid? You can make one at home from cornstarch, won't be very durable though.

We have missiles for that. We don't need to punch through wall to find sandniggers in their burrows. We have bunker-buster bombs for underground hideouts. The only problem is that our govt. can't decide who it wants to kill.

No the official explanation is that he's the luckiest, they throw it in your face several times to get the point across.

John went through a 'luck' test as a child before he was abducted and had the highest conceivable rating. The reason why Chief comes out alive through the most insane and suicidal situations is because he's absurdly lucky.

>
>The human form is not suited to warfare.
? The fuck you mean? Humans only fight humans. It has never been any other way. If its gonna fit through a door, its gonna be human shaped you dumb faggot.

Is it that hard to put a disel engine on it?

Depends if it is needed. Humans are pretty fucking good at creating technology that they need, so long as they are sufficiently rewarded for doing so.

space marines literally dont have dicks.

I doubt it, I just don't think material armor will be able to keep up with weaponry in the future.
Science fiction stuff like EM shields looks more likely IMO

Wait whut

They have chainswords for this shit.

In real life a diesel engine would generate too much heat, fumes, and wouldn't be operational for very long. Powering a suit just for one person with diesel would be ridiculous.

In terms of warfare, we're more likely to go to automated drones before we develop power armor. Viedogames are one thing but the real life requirements for power armor are vast and the results aren't worthwhile. It's the same reason you'll never see a gundam or mecha for that matter, seriously developed for warfare. Not when tanks already do the job better and more efficiently

master chief like armor was originally designed to beat down riots on earths colonies afaik.

That could be useful...

Yes they do its been mentioned but it was joked about in a book how everything on them was massive.... Everything.

This. Hence why the Spartans got creamed by the Covenant before they got their hands on their shield tech and incorporated it into the MJORNIR suits. Before then, they were just made to combat rebellions in Earth colonies.

Why arent we funding this? Very effective against black live matters protestors who block streets.

In fluff they can move like the matrix believe it or not

It's pointless. Once the level of technological development is reached, humans will no longer be necessary.

A robot is cheaper, stronger, and arguably more effective.

Failing this, a human could simply enter a control suit, allowing them to control robotic soldiers in the field directly.

The material is some from non newtonic fluid and it proved to be durable enough to create a prototype. But it was priced at 3 million a suit. After the demonstration video of how limited movement with the suit prototype, it either went into the classified stage of development or got shit canned. I think it went no where since DARPA in 2008 started funding energy shield and more combat exosuit projects.

Not powered suits like that, but mayching the other features wouldn't be too difficult while maintaining that style.
Unless we finally start investing in and refining thermal power chips and material science stumbles on a really good capacitor. The neural interface is on its way but power density is a serious problem, even if those metallic muscle fibers get a better range on their variable lengths.

Exoskeletons have number of potential peaceful and utility applications, so we will probably see them in our lifetime.

The gunner would be dead before he could even shoot. It's a shitty design

MJOLNIR essentially pumps a regulatory fluid layer between the undersuit and your skin. So they might end up looking like they went to an asian massage parlour if you stripped off the armor all at once.

No. Drones are the future. Probably caterpillar/flying ones, not two-legged antropomorthic ones.

They are the best basic troops besides necrons

>tfw halo nostalgia
>dat story
>dat music
>dat everything

It will happen, not for a long time though.

Fuck, we have the technology to make mechs, just not the technology to power them.

It's always the power source that is an issue.

He was a little of all things. However it is revealed by the oracle that he was "designed" to be the luckiest and the best

its good for game balance. in reality, it is a jihad-tier design. everyone in the thing is too exposed

err librarian

if microjew will bring halo 3 for pc at some point i will literally suck all of their dicks.

but the car cant be destroyed, at least in halo 1

It isn't, you could put a lawnmower engine with a generator and it would probably be enough power.

But noise and R&D wanting to be perfect rather than doing it quick and dirty. So they do fuel cells.

>A centurion
>Not a dreadnought
ARE YOU TURNING TO CHAOS, BATTLE BROTHER.

>but the car cant be destroyed

It doesn't matter if everyone inside is full of holes/plasma burns

Except those turrets do just fine in real life.

But don't you want spacemarines INSIDE spacemarines?

M8.....

Horus did nothing wrong

plasma nades on windshield. best bbq ever

Did it involve electrical current?

Absolutely, some day anyway. I mean 100 years ago even in science fiction we never imagined we would have some of the stuff that we do today. Even in just the last 25 years, look at how advanced computers, cell phones, and video games have become. So it's no stretch to say within 100 years that type of armor could be possible. Probably just a case of developing a new type of material, and then probably having to do a similar type of Spartan program as that series.

That's basically how it is in that series. However when you have 1 super soldier that can take down an entire enemy army [the covenant are FAR more advanced compared to the human army in game, now imagine if your opponents were more equally matched] that the cost would absolutely be worth it. Yea it would be extremely limited to how many capable people you could get to use them, but still. We've got like body armor plates, and tons of other shit nowadays that can cost millions per item.

Sci-fi shooters die slow deaths on PC.

Yes, until you get ambushed by a 15 year old carrying a pistol
