This is called a Tennessee Treeing Brindle, also known as a Tennessee Mountain Cur, and it's pretty much responsible for the settlement of Kentucky. Apparently, virtually every family had one of these back in the day. It's one of the more intelligent breeds you can find and great for hunting or guarding the family, fiercely loyal with jaws strong enough to crush a gopher's skull. Also, they're one of the few breeds of dog that's capable of smiling. I don't mean "oh look he's smiling!" that idiots scream when a dog is baring its teeth, I mean literal smiling due to happiness.

Had one for most of my life until he died of old age. 10/10 dog, would raise again. Just gotta be careful with them, they need social interaction with the family that owns them or they'll fall into depression. I'm sure other dogs could keep them good company, but if you can't spend time with them yourself you probably shouldn't own a dog to begin with.

I'm a labrador guy. I've got a black one and white one and both are the sweetest puppers I could've asked for. Hunting with them is a lot of fun and they're also very loyal guard dogs.

very hard to keep in check afaik. once they start to doubt you are able to defend his home he will try to take over.
