This is the argument put forward in the UK. That the more people = more consumers = more economic activity. The way I see it there are three general interest groups:

1. The 1% who own/profit from businesses. They spend of labour and gain on product sales
2. The government who tax and spend
3. The general population who work(income) and spend

Whey they say things are good you have to ask "good for who". With the huge number of migrants:

- it's GOOD for the 1%. As they can lower their cost of labour and increase their product sales as there are more people to sell to.
-It's BAD for the government because you have to be earning more than £30k to be a net contributor in terms of tax and spend. (ie they raise more tax because there are more people but they spend more than they raise as most are low earners)
- Its BAD for the general population because they drive down wages (income) and raise costs (particularly housing)

So you have to ask yourself who is the government representing? When they are clearing loosing from this situation.
