The Borg had already assimilated 7 of 9 and several colonies in the Neutral Zone. They already knew about the Federation. The Federation only survived because Q gave Picard that warning.

You can also say that the presence of the Enterprise inside Borg space precipitated their response.

Q argued that the Borg were already coming, and the Feds just didn't know it yet. He could have lied, but there's no reason to believe the Borg weren't already on the warpath (as the preceding comment mentioned, they had been assimilating some Federation colonies already).

That shit when they say in the early seasons this and that outpost on the federation border was attacked, and it's as if they'd "scooped up" the outposts, that wasn't intended to be hinting at Borg first.

They had no idea who to introduce as the big bad guys, initially it was the ferengi, then they wanted to make the bugs the bad guys who infiltrated starfleet, only later did they decide it'll be the Borg.

Interesting bit of writers room history, but what difference does that make? Star Trek is fictional, it's all made up as they go along. But nothing in the story suggests that Q's gift was actually the cause of the Borg invasion.

I would buy CBS all access for a year if this scene happens

TNG could've used a little more consistency. For instance, in that episode there's a scene where they talk about Picard's artificial heart, and Q has some shitty mechanical facsimile in his hand. In season 2 when he needed a replacement he told Wesley his heart was a parthenogenetic implant. A parthenogenetic organ would be something organic grown of the hosts own genetic material, not some mechanical shit.

Well Picard got his heart replaced right out of star fleet academy, 2327, and wesly wasn't born till 2348. In 20 years I assume they would've created and worked out the bugs with the latter method.
Now why they didn't replace his mechanical heart with the grown one I don't know. Maybe the risk of surgery outweighed getting a heart that isn't mechanical?
