What irks me every season of Survivor is that the always have a bunch of completely useless floaters in the back half of the game after merge. I don't understand how the strongest people that catch the food or are actually useful on the challenges get burned first most of the time and whoever the fat land whale or single mom or deadbeat stoner or nigh on useless nerd of the season is makes it to the finals.

I don't know how you could even come up with that conclusion. It's just as much of a mental game as it is a physical game and no different than when they drag people they know they could beat in the end like in big brother.

It didn't use to be that way, but thanks to the new school of thought, if you let those beasts make it to merge when you can take them out, it's always possible they can go on an immunity run and fuck your game.

It's just like any season of big brother where they floaters/useless players get scared of potential comp beasts.

I understand that, but they never even consider timing on something like that. time and time again I see the guy that was leading the way on building the shelter and catching fish and building fire go out in second or third place for the reason you described but then because they lost their most valuable asset in the tribe they lose the next tribal comp and they go hungry that night and probably lose the next comp after that. and then when their tribe is nothing but skin and bones they get picked off after merge by the tribe that is still dominant. it seems to me the better move in the early game would be to throw away the weakest players you have so you can be competitive in the comps and worry about getting rid of strong players when you have a better foothold established. I only started watching survivor recently though, I am hardly a student of the game.
