It was kind of interesting that the producers started shoving this images of extreme deaths at the last part of the show. They accustomed the viewers to just see the ships blowing up fast and generals being so honorable for almost the entore show and then at the last 20 episodes they start showing what happens internally when the ships get damaged and how gruesome the sailors deaths are, and you think "damn, war isnt so honorable and glorious after all" and then they also start putting death counts too and its like "oh we lost 5 million people in this battle", "11 million in this other one" and it just makes you feel awful to know all this. It was an interesting move. War never changes.

This is actually kind of a piss poor idea, as teenagers often strive to find a different path than their parents. Ask any psychologist and they will tell you, this is exactly the sort of thing that tends to result in the child doing everything in his power to be the opposite of his parent when they grow up.

You can't always reason with children, as often a hard fact will look like an obstacle or injustice, and can cause them to hate not only authority but the fundamental facts of the world. More often have to coax them to find their way, and that means more than emotional manipulation, but also emotional support. You can only say do as I do so many times, before the child will say, "Fuck you I do what I want."

"I'm not my dad!", tends to be core to the choir of the subconscious, regardless of how great your dad was, sometimes into old age.
