I enjoyed this movie. I'm glad the Western genre is not dead yet and you can have a good Western movie made nowadays. As opposed to movies with the Western aesthetic, like the Hateful Eight.
Tuntematon sotilas (2017) is kino.
Wait for the Blu Rays
More like old goy, that flick was really degenerate
>foreign
best horror movie in years.
for sure
>everyone is an amerifat
also
It was fucking excellent. Any more like this?
They Call Me Jeeg
...
>everone knows that foreign means not in english
spastic retard
kino
Literally the greatest movie I've ever seen.
10/10 absolutely kino.
same director as The Lobster, thought it was great
kino
Avalon

Hero
>assassin goes to kill the first emperor of China. has a rashomon part.
Last Life in the Universe
>i've read people compare this to 'lost in translation.. except good'
On the Job
>filipino crime movie about inmates turned into assassins. perfect cover.
>heard it was getting a hollywood version
Seven Samurai
>implying nobody's seen this
Stalker
>implying nobody's seen this
Swing Girls
>comfy movie about jazz
Wood Job!
>comfy movie about nature
Yojimbo
>samurai for hire pits 2 mobs against each other

>implying nobody's seen this
Departures
>comfy movie about encoffinment
Er ist wieder da

This. One of the best movies I've ever watched.
...
...
...
name me one korea kino better than this.
protip: you can't
...
I still think Memories of Murder is slightly better, but it's damn close.
...
also scandi/mads kino;
>Green Butchers
>Adam's Apples
>A Royal Affair.
man this film just about broke me
this movie is so fucking good
...
...
not him but for me "not foreign" would be "german"
"foreign" would include american made movies/tv-shows. don´t be a cunt
Let's see some WebMs
NEW WORLD
same actors
that movie made my stomach churn from tension
>soon to be remade
WHY?
Godtier editing, similar to Malick but it's the whole film instead of just sequences
>foreign
>english word: foreign
>not english
stop being a cunt. obviously foreign films means movies that aren't english/from english speaking countries
What is it
Then post fag
Haven't seen any of these. Thanks.
Iconic
sorry but no.obviously i´m using the english word because we are talking in english but foreign -at least for me- implies "international" which could aswell be "english" if you are not from around there.
I was 100% thinking there was gonna be another body there.
I don't understand how you could be so fucking thick.
You're on a website that primarily uses english as the language, mostly visited by english speaking people, follows US laws. How else is 'foreign' supposed to mean? Stop being a fucking stupid cunt
But Australian films are foreign as fuck. So are South African.
Pure fucking kino, there aren't enough great films from mainland China.
there are none
PM:d you ;^)
i get that. i´m just saying that for me it has a different meaning. since i´m german. not trying to antagonize here
Gimme the source, faggot, this is a rec thread, not a webbum thread.
Just like Hitler wasnt trying to antagonize Russia
>Old school John Woo never gets any love in this board
Libre et assoupi
Under sandet
Cred Forums talking about foreign movies. Mmm, that's rare. Grab the popcorn to see just popular foreign movies.
fuck de tyske svin
thirst, mr vengeance, secret sunshine, mom, the chaser, show must go on.
Watched High and Low last week and it was absolutely kino
kim ki duk's 2001 bad guy, has anyone else seen it?
La Haine (1995) is pure frenchkino, and I always watch it.
Maybe Playtime or Il sorpasso.
...
>same director of KILLING OF A SACRED DEER
>NOPE
true kino
Besides Oldboy there's the whole ''vengeance trilogy'', I didn't like Lady that much but still pretty good. Oldboy of course is the best one.
youtube.com
3 iron is prob the best korean film i ever watched
and i don't even like romance/drama
Great suggestions. thx
Didn't even fucking win foreign movie.
Coming of age kino. The lez scenes are just an added bonus.
The Great Beauty did.
What a travesty.
>best Denis movie
that guy made the killing of a sacred deer. he shouldnt be allowed back in society anymore
Ikiru.
also, movie in the pic is SO FUCKING GOOD
I lived in Korea for years, but the only Korean movie I ever liked (and it's one of my all time favs) is Old Boy.
Besides OB, what's babby-tier can't-miss great korean cin?
and add The Handmaiden to that list
Argentinian kino
Kontroll (2003)
The plot is kinda predictable towards the end, but the atmosphere is GOAT. Filmed in the subways of Budapest. Can recommend.
Three Colors trilogy.
Also, Blue is the best one.
The only other I remember watching was Nameless Gangster, which I recall being OK. thanks for the list.
hell yes. Hard Boiled is the greatest action movie of all time
Aguirre: The Wrath of God
and as long as we're on the topic of Herzog kino, Stroszek
I watched it but I dont really get it. I was really surprised when it was that highly rated.
Same with the VVitch.
Have I watched too many crappy horror movies, so I'm completely oblivious to good stuff?
Because both seemed to be just regular stuff to me.
...
you're on an american site you moron. "foreign movies" isnt even something that would need to be discussed for anyone capable of using their brain for just a second.
go back to krautchan if you're too stupid to get that
I used to stay up all night, just to see those movies, which were always shown around midnight here. Whats the movie where he has a jazzclub, or is playing in one?
Watch the rest of that trilogy.
Sympathy for Ms vengeance is the weakest. But honestly it's hard to be on par with Sympathy for Mr vengeance and Oldboy
Should have won Best Foreign Picture desu
Pretty sure that's hard Boiled
...
Trilogy for Oldboy or Nameless Gangster?
>Cred Forums still has imdb-tier taste
why am i not surprised
>Sympathy for Ms vengeance is the weakest
And we got our first contrarian pleb...
Three years later and still not updated. There were some top movies, like train to busan or the wailing and age of shadows that need to be in, as well as the handmaiden
it's Confessions (2010)
Lady > Oldboy > Mr. Vengeance
I was literally about to post this. Such a great film. Gotta watch Yi Yi next. Also check out pic related if you haven't already. Gave me similar vibes to A Brighter Summer Day.
Oldboy.
In order they go:
> Sympathy for Mr Vengeance
> Oldboy
> Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
>contrarian
??
As far as I'm aware, Lady vengeance was always seen as the worst one. Still good though.
...
Haven't seen 'The Salesman'. Has to be pretty good if it beats this one.
Oldboy. But he's memeing. Ms Vengeance is probably the best of the trilogy. Mr. Vengeance is pretty weak stor wise and is only carried by the main actors. You can see why went to make more movies after that. It seems like one of those cases where you have a short movie which then is the basis for a big production.
Not quite the same since its not a short movie, but you get the idea.
Ms Vengeance is often regarded as the best and better than OIdboy.
I'd say its on par. And it has the same kind of emotional shift. In my opinion even heavier than Oldboy.
Haven't seen Lady but Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance was a bit of a meandering mess in terms of writing despite looking fantastic and having great performances.
Tsai Ming Liang is amazing.
>ctrl f
>no trollhunter
>no the good the bad and the weird
For shame
Yi Yi is so fucking good.
Yeah its pretty hit and miss. Definitely watch Lady though.
...
>Lady vengeance was always seen as the worst one
not in the real world. not even on Cred Forums desu ne
Who /drifter/ here?
...
I realize that this is probably gonna start a Cred Forums derailment, but uironically Salesman only won so they could put a bunch of muslims on stage to go "fuck drumpf!!!!"
...
There are more great non-american movies than American movies
...
>it's hard to be on par with Sympathy for Mr vengeance
Lmao, its the worst one man.
seconding an update already.
oh shit I've missed that when it was on tv.
...
Yep, Hard Boiled. I also agree with this user, single best action film of all time. It hasn't been beat and it will not be beat. It's fucking perfection.
...
...
German movie about a girl going crazy and may or may not end up getting fucked by wolves.
Saw it at sundance and I gotta say, its pretty wild.
> unironically better than Schindler's List
...
>oh shit I've missed that when it was on tv.
I definitely recommend seeing it when you can. It's very slow burn but the atmosphere is great. Actually nails the feel of living in China, just with more ice skate murders.
>and
that*
...
shit. its even worse because the station it was on has free streaming and it was available for more than a week
well, torrent here I come
>best John Woo movie
This is the movie every fucked up nerd would love if he'd ever heard of it
...
Nah, Hard Boiled will always have that crown. What's the one where Fat's in a wheelchair? It's like a 50s style heist movie but played as a Hong Kong comedy. It's really good as well.
Blue is the best one, but Red is a dark horse. Polaks can keep White
this also needs to be on as well as the others mentioned
best ITT
Trollhunter is just okay. Buuuuut The Good, The Bad, and The Weird is fucking amazing.
>that scene when The Bad challenges the underling to a duel for underestimating him and gives him a proper grave with some respectful words
This is the one. It's funny as fuck. It's got great action as expected from 90s Woo but focuses far more on the comedy aspect.
downloading now
Drug War
The ending is a little bit lazy desu
Has anyone seen Queen Margot?
Isabelle Adjani is gorgeous on that
Oh I didnt see that yet but I Leslie Cheung used to be my favorite HK actor so I'm checking this out.
Shame he decided to explode into a thousend pieces on the pavement
Full Contact
They actually made the monkey king a terrifying chaotic force rather than a bumbling idiot in these films. They're all great.
Raise the Red Lantern
Infernal Affairs
It was the first of the 3 so its not going to be the best
Oldboy > Lady > Mr. Vengeance
Fuck I didn't know he was dead.
>used to work at an electronic store that also bought and sold used stuff on the internet
>me and a co worker always rented asian movies no matter what the cover looked like
best bro time of my life.
It's definitely payoff via lesbian tits. I was okay with that. And the cigarette shit was fucking ace
criminally underrated by Cred Forums
fuck time to leave the thread, im gonna watch it tonight. have a good one Cred Forums
It's been my favourite film for a very long time. There's not a single wasted shot and the soundtrack's sublime.
Great pick.
Comfy popcorn kino.
Yeah its a shame. He was great in movies and based in real life. Well as based as someone jumping out of a window can get I mean.
too long, but ok. 9/10
>Won an Oscar
Nuff said
Posting Kitano's movies is cheating. As well as movies with this guy .
Its like automatically good shit.
But Kikujiro's Summer>Hanabi
I saw the devil(?)
Lovely movie
Might be generally great (Kitanos was fucking awful though so he's not infallible) but not everyone's gonna have seen his stuff so it's worth mentioning.
Pic related is a bloody great film that I never see get mentioned, atmospheric as all fuck.
I'm not sure lovely would be the best word to describe that film.
Everytime he spins the rifle I cum
Castaway on the Moon
Departures
das boot
Seriously, Hana-bi's soundtrack is one of the best ever made.
>that slight twist at the end, not the first reveal but the second
In the context of the story that was so cool, made so much sense
youtube.com
I'd argue it's the best work Hisaishi's done.
I'm hungarian and this movie is fucking shit.
Pic related for me is a literal masterpiece..
It was pretty fucking great tho
Takashi Miike has 100 films already. Ranging from garbage to Kino. 13 assassins, I'd recommend.
Saw a webm of the end scene and it looked interesting. I didn't regret watching it.
Not disagreeing there pal. It's basically a dream matchup film for Korean film fans, bloke from Old Boy vs bloke from A Bittersweet Life. And it's masterfully done.
Some user made a thread about Intacto recently and no one replied. It's a good film and worth your time to watch it. And no, it wasn't me who made the thread.
Pusher 2
Anybody ever watch this?
Secret Sunshine
election 1 and 2
a touch of zen
kagemusha
the wailing
mad mission series
yeah, I wanted to like it more than I did
...
>foreign aka non-american
I really enjoyed this. The chase scene blew me away, but the whole film was entertaining.
I cried because it was really sad. Japan loves making these depressing movies.
Why do Americans like not sad movies.
I think foreign film these days just means non western english. Haven't seen any British films get posted as foreign either. Not saying I agree with it but it's just how it works at the minute, give it ten years and Chinese films will be the only non-foreign films though. They're going to fucking envelope the market.
Watch pic related, the girlfriend talked me into watching it and I ended up loving the film. It's kinda happy-sad.
...
This movie was so fucking annoying, not because of the devil and angel shit, but because the main guy was such fucking annoying fucker.
How so?
thank you. At least I am the only one to dislike it
Thanks. Will watch sometime later.
They have, but it's oscar bait about some marginalized community.
so whats about the souffle?
...
What does Cred Forums think of Raw?
Pls, watch it.
off the top, since its really broad thread, OP should do better. For instance, i dont believe UK is foreign, being an amerifat, they would be under my top movies, just not foreign. Here it goes
amores perros
oldboy
A prophet
City of God
Elite Squad
Pan's Labyrinth (not sure if thats hollywood, if it is then remove)
Amores Perros won't be foreign for you, in less than 10 years.
lmao motherfucker
ah the classic oscar bait
You should watch all of Tarkovsky's other films
It was good, made me want to get eaten desu.
Sonatine is great. Just watched it the other day after going on a Takeshi Kitano kick.
Violent Cop
Hana-bi
Kikujiro
Zatoichi
Takeshis'
are all great too
fuck, forgot IP man
>trying to remake this masterpiece for the average american
Felt like it focused a little too much on metaphors and symbolism and not enough on horror and cannibalism
Dinner for Schmucks?
This is easily my favourite, don't think there is a single flaw in this movie.
why do people obsessively make sweeping generalizations of what Americans like or do? We have tons of sad movies.
>all sad American movies are oscar bait
bullshit
yeah
Kino
Just watched this yesterday. I knew it was supposed to be good but it exceeded my expectations. The humor in it is great and I wasn't expecting it. It doesn't really feel like a movie made in the 50's. If I didn't know better and someone told me it was a foreign art house movie that came out in the 90s or something I'd probably believe them.
Honestly didn't know that was a remake
City of God is a great choice, I'm not normally into crime films but there's something about that one. It's just amazingly watchable.
Watch Brother, it's certainly not his best but it's still really great. It's best to go into it understanding that it's not a Hollywood film by a Japanese guy, it's a Japanese film that just happens to be set in LA.
Thanks buddy
>Killing of a sacred deer
is there anything wrong with it?
Mein negger
Its shit
Yeah I had planned on it but got a little burnt out on him. Hyped for Yakuza 6
A lot of people said it was great and better than Dogtooth and Lobster but of course Cred Forums hates it, probably because it's "pretenchus"
Top tier Kurosawa.
Underrated AF.
kino movie
Check out Le Trou by Jacques Becker if you liked this one.
>Das Boot
My nigga
To add to Korean kino - pic releated(Silenced) and Breathless. Both excellent dramas and tear jerkers.
Recent jap movie I enjoyed was Destruction Babies. Havent seen much jap lately, if I think about it
>Asiakino
Pic related
Battle Royale
Hero
House of flying daggers
Machine Girl
Undead Pool
Oh and also: Tokyo Gore Police
Whats the film like vs the series, the show is kino
>Jap Movies
Memories of Matsuko is higly recommended. The Japanese Forrest Gump!
The show is just an extended version, they used the same footage for both of them.
THESE SHOES SAY NICE NOT NIKE
Predator and Top Gun.
There is nothing better.
I only watched the series.
Extremely cheesy but the ending was pretty surprising
my favorite is spring summer winter fall and spring
It's all so tiresome
...
I wouldn't really call it underrated. When it's mentioned it's always in high regard, but it just doesn't really get mentioned a lot because people are terrified of China doing well in any capacity. And a great film like this is a sore reminder for these people that, yes, China will be in charge in a few decades. Damn shame people think that way because it's a fucking awesome country.
source?
...
These are my most recent watches
Seventh Seal
Embrace of the Serpent
Hard to Be a God
Horse Money
Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives
Once Upon a Time in Anatolia
In the Mood for Love
YES
YES
DOUBLE FUCKING YES WITH A BACKFLIP ON TOP!
You lads have some taste.
anything with zhang ziyi in it i've watched or planning to watch
she is just too pretty
Satantango is the ultimate rite of passage to the medium
I liked it a lot, as far as debuts go its pretty damn good
This is a really underviewed and mostly unknown movie but it's amazing. It's like if Hideaki Anno tried to make a David Lynch transcendental dream logic movie with an ambient vaporwave score. It's got telepathic communication with dolphins, psychic powers, magic meteors, astrology, glowing mushrooms and lots of Japanese cityscapes and swimming pools
check out the soundtrack
youtu.be
name?
Chungking Express is pretty good.
I just heard about this the other day. Sounds interesting but I don't know when i'll ever have the time to sit down and watch a 7 hour film. Apparently the director asks people to watch it mostly uninterrupted too.
this movie triggers my rage
Where'd you find a copy of this?
A quick search online yields nothing
not him, but I was interested as well because of his post and found it on rutracker
german kino inbound
I was this at the theatre. As well as pretty much half of the jap/korean movies in this thread.
Feels good having an "artsy" small theatre in my city that constantly plays asian stuff
nice, thanks man.
Also, somebody uploaded it (twice, hence the long runtime) on youtube:
It used to be up on Youtube in good quality and with english subtitles but it looks like that was taken down. I think I ripped it. Now there's only this one and I don't see where to turn on the subs
I've heard good things about this
I just found this eng torrent. Magnet is lower inpost
nachostime.tv
this is directed by Gakuryu Ishii the guy that did Electric Dragon 80000 V and Crazy Thunder Road if anyone has seen those
You're right - no subs.
I thought "No" was pretty good for a foreign film.
Talg and the wimpies, it's Israeli, with a Russian lead.
I'll try to find and upload my copy in a sec
Huge thanks!
Thanks
>google august in water dvd
>$40-50
whelp
I did the same thing, lol.
It's on Youtube in a few places but none of them have subtitles and they all looks pretty bad.
My dvdrip has almost finished downloading. Will check how good it is
Been watching korean movies ever since the olpmics started
Movies I watched
Sea Fog
taefukgi
Northern Limit Line
Inside Men
Anything with subs is better than anything without so you're doing us a favor no matter what
Age of Shadows and master are other movies I recently watch
any recommendations? Korean movies , although their CGI is dog shit in many cases, they're better than the recent stuff coming out of hollywood
Im not this guy
but this guy
It's an older one and certainly not one of the best but R-Point is worth a look. Korean soldiers in the vietnam war but there's ghosts and hillariously fake Ving Rhames. Not great but entertaining.
Never uploaded and shared something so hopefully I didn't fuck it up. Video quality isn't great but the subtitles aren't hardcoded so if you manage to find a better quality video without subs you can use the subtitle file for that
Thanks mate, totally gonna give this a watch soon. Sounds right up my street.
Gozu
Thanks for the dolphin porn
......thank dougie......
Really bloody good choice, totally bonkers but it works.
user delivers!
>No Love Exposure.
>No Mommy (2014).
user...
no problem
I need to watch love exposure but I'm too lazy
I recommend watching the first part one night and the second part the next day. By then, your curiosity to see what happens will overcome ur laze. It's a solid ride and worth it imo.
no it didn't
one of the best of the year
Just watched this last night, gotta agree it was kino.
First time I watched it at 4x and regretted my decision. Ended up re-watching the whole thing at normal speed.
Die Welle is very good
Started watching it. My dick can take only so much of that 90' audiovisual aesthetic and in japan for that.
This thread needs more ramen-Westerns
>the film gained a considerable amount of notoriety in film festivals around the world for its four-hour duration and themes including love, family, lust, religion and the art of upskirt photography..
>the art of upskirt photography..
sounds kino thanks
yeah its pretty much a e s t h e t i c the movie
trailer for anyone else interested
youtu.be
figures.....
What cut should I watch of this? I know it was disputed for Blade Runner but haven't heard anything for this.
...
imo it's too long to watch on a single sitting, so the mini-series version is the most suitable, also the longest
My man. Check out Bullet in the Head and The Killer for more heroic bloodshed or Last Hurray for Chivalry if you want to see what a John Woo old school martial arts movie is like.
Any real Gs wanna throw an avistaz invitation my way?
What are some other directors like Kitano, contemporary yakuza/gangster films that are also like proto mumblecore? Doesn't necessarily have to be japanese
asian Paul Dano
>My introduction to John Woo and Hard Boiled was this video game that came with Hard Boiled included. The game is pretty good too.
