I hate the episode because it is badly written. He is repeatedly referred to as omnipotent in that simulation, yet he is so easily destroyed. Where are his admin powers when he is chasing them to the black hole? Why does the update manifest itself as a black hole? Why does it conveniently transport them to the real game while trapping him inside the mod for eternity?

Their whole plan was doomed to fail, and yet somehow it worked out better than they could have ever imagined, because the writers are hacks.

The episode pretty firmly establishes that he doesn't handle unexpected developments/situations well. Basically once he realizes they're working against him he goes full REEEEEEEEE and stays in that state. Sure, if he'd calmed down and realized "hey, I'm god," he could've shut everything down very quick. But being god doesn't teach a person to think on their feet.

The last season I watched was 2, because after that it went under Netflix, and I was absolutelly sure it would just become a SJW badly written garbage.

Then, you guys started talking so much about this episode that I ended up watching. And surprise: I was right. This was so bad and cringeworthy that I barely could watch until the end. Once again Netflix shitted on something I liked.

People don't like this season because the stories are worse for the most part. They feel as though they end 20 minutes early without any conclusion. Even looking at the premise of the episode, they don't conclude the premise or see it through. They just kinda stop after 30 minutes. Arkangel is one of the worst offenders. It tells a story for about 30 minutes, girl does a climactic thing, and then it ends with her running away. There's no conclusion there, no continuation of the story. We saw climax and then nothing.

Even with the meme ending, either
1) He's found and released, which lets him hunt down the AI or
2) Without him around, the game fades into obscurity with a new game announced, thus causing the AIs to be trapped alone (or get hacked by people still interested in the game)

I think the point is the old episodes didn't have happy endings or villains being defeated, because that's an unrealistic resolution to an episode which is otherwise just providing a portrayal of a sci-fi concept and commenting on it.

The point of previous Black Mirror episodes is that they had a climax, but there weren't protagonists fighting an evil, it was just a snapshot of a system in full flow - it's not something the main characters were expected to succesfully fight against. This is dystopia 101, it's precisely what makes a novel like 1984 or Brave New World interesting.

The Trek episode felt like it was written by two different people. The introduction was perfect build-up for this horror story and it becomes a goofy YAS QWIN SLAY dark comedy by the end - if that was the intention, make that obvious at the beginning, it's Season 4.
