I've assumed that for a long time actually. Ever since I read Zero, honestly. The board of directors didn't choose to let her in randomly. I think that at least some of them had a similar idea as Komaeda- that do distill the ultimate hope they need to bring in the greatest despair possible.

Though actually, I've suspected there was more to Junko's story than what she told us from the end of the first game. She deflected questions as to her origins and childhood pretty hard. And the more someone does that the more likely it is that they're doing it because they have something to hide.

I don't really buy the whole 'born into despair schitck'. And while I can see her Analysis skill making her bored enough to fall into despair, I don't see how it turned her into a machine that exists only to make the rest of the world suffer. Someone else probably did that.

Junko is on shaky enough ground as a credible villain, having literally everything fall into her lap and having incredible luck, with inconsistent motivations (Giving Chiaki an inescapable death trap but not preparing Makoto's execution despite both being Hope?). Thus, the moment the question of her childhood comes up, it's deflected hard because she's supposed to be more of a Joker-esque "Force of Nature" villain. Of course, the problem with that is that the Joker has had a backstory - multiple ones, in fact - and by refusing to characterize her there he only succeeds in making her weaker.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they revealed it. That's how you'd totally destroy Junko's credibility and ensure that V3 wouldn't include her that much.

Nagito in AE is how the Despairs should act. Nagito was still acting under his own agency and with his own goals (supporting despair in order to grow even greater hope), just completely twisted and somehow also mostly helping Junko's goals.

Based on what we know, Nagito still hates Junko, and depending on whether you count Izuru as being a despair, he does too. Nagito, Mikan and Izuru are pretty much the only three 77s that we see in their post-Junko personalities.
