DMM decided the problem is trying to do both the light hearted and the dead serious emo stories at the same time. And that is why Swordboy is getting two separate anime series, one does silly SoL and one dead emo violent one. Keeping the two separate, DMM hopes, would mean better reception than what the Kancolle anime ended up being.

That wasn't the only problem with it. It had a shit ton of others too.

Worst case scenario sword boys only learns from one of the mistakes and makes the same mistakes for everything else.
