Because, of all the firearms ever invented, handguns offer the most mobility and grants its user complete freedom in making supah cool poses

Handguns are literally the swords of the swords of the firearm world - has limited practically but highly recognized for its aesthetic value.

Doesn't anyone else miss when cool things were called "cool" or "badass" instead of "edgy"?

Now everything badass is edgy, everything fun is retarded, and everything hot is shitty service.

Anime didn't really change that much with the years, its the watchers who became pussies.

When we stoped to shout FUCK YEAH! at the sight of MC cutting heads or making out with the heroine?

Where everything gone wrong?
Simple: we grew up. We realized that going into the complete extremes does not make up for your lack of valuable core. Rather, it is nothing more than a mask that will so readily fall

This always happen in history
In Victorian Times, plays always consists of overly fluffy dialogue, an ocean of drama, and a vast array of characters who can't speak like normal humans
in the 80-90's, pop culture was at its hype and every single form of entertainment will have a personal song number to sing
Modern times: pornography and sexual culture is at its golden age.
As such, there was a sudden influx of awful "porn with plot" haremshits...which are slowly dying, thankfully

It's basically the cycle of fun:
some guy some a style that made his work amazing
others followed his lead
there was an influx of it in the market
people grew tired and realized that it lost its value and should better be done in moderation

Nah, you just grown distant and more bitter with life since you don't have close interactions with any human being for quite a while.

For the rest who do, anime remains pretty enjoyable since we regards it as entertainment and we like our entertainment fun, wild and crazy instead of replacement for life or human interaction of which you attempted to and why you want it to mimic what you believe is real life standard.

Nothing to do with your garbage written by unemployable literature graduates who made up their own 'facts'.

Becuase most of those "badass" characters sound and look like something only 14 years old fan of Sasuke and Shadow would consider "cool".

badly written bloodthirsty characters that are edgy for the sake being edgy

Problem is there doesn't seem to be good reasons for being bloodthirsty any more, even if the whole family of the character was killed or had a shit life that justifies him, it seems its not enough and people still call it "edgy" there is no way of being "non-edgy" regardless of how you write the characters, because for autists nothing ever justifies the character and its allways "cheap writting" or "bad writting".

If you have the heroine raped, is edgy, if you have the heroine bullied, is edgy, if you have the heroine beated, its edgy, if the heroine had a male friend 10 years ago, its NTR. You literally can't write about anything "bad" without being edgy.

Which is why all professional writers never give a shit what any critics they don't personally respect said?

Let's face it. Everyone here are worse writers than even the worse LN writer because if you are actually good enough with writing, people actually would be happy to pay you to write all the time instead of you just shitposting for free with little girls in this Burmese knitting forum.

I dunno. Likely because it is a quick and simple way to off somebody in media compared to swords that usually involve huge swordfights that take up a large portion of an episode. Using a gun usually means that the guy wielding it is far more likely to shoot someone in the head before they get the time to react to it, which does tend to be very edgy indeed, especially when the opponent doesn't have a gun themselves to fight back properly.

uhh...I don't even know where to begin. I can't even tell your point.

What was my life suppsed to do in the growth of culture?
What was your taste in entertaiment supposed to change?

I get it, you like fun and your tastes are different from us.
But let's be honest here: try to speak like the Victorian characters today and next thing you knew, you will wake up in an icy bathtub with a missing kidney

Culture changes every time. And it does not take an expert to realize why influencial characters from the ages past (Goku, Betty Boop, Asuka) no longer make any impact to the modern world

Guns don't require any martial prowess, which makes them a lot more different and arguably boring from a story standpoint as their own entity. The japanese also rarely ever see them in their nation so they can only associate them with western history and from action flicks and comics like Deadpool which makes guns look like toys.

You better count your blessings. Main characters with guns are a rarity these days. Japan are too afraid of guns now, which is sad because guns are cool.
