What went wrong? Why did the two parts flop so hard and get tore down by critics?
What went wrong? Why did the two parts flop so hard and get tore down by...
People finally realized it was shit.
can't get away with it for too long
HURR WHY IS THE MOVIE FLOPPING EVEN THOUGH IS ALL ABOUT ONE GIRL AND NOT THE REST OF THEM
Are you retarded?
Release 1/3 of a movie structured like a regular movie with the payoff in the 3rd act
Be surprised people leave the theaters unsatisfied
didn't you watch it? It was shit
This. Not even fanservice can save a shitty writing.

So Shaft got BTFO by everyone and everything. Why do they even do it anymore. They should go back to handling tweens for Toei. They don't deserve the franchises they kill.
Why did they use such a QUALITY art for a poster?
6 years CGI drawn
remove all of the MC's inner monolugues for no reason
take away 60% of the amusing lines and interesting thoughts from the LN
make the MC seem boring as shit
It's not normalfag bait like Keit Ai and KnK
The entire franchise is going out with a whimper, not a bang
Because it took them way too fucking long. This series has no hype anymore. No one cares. They're 4 years too late.
dividing this in 3 parts
SHAFT are a bunch of incompetent morons. Glad this shit is flopping
Kill yourself pleb. The only good thing kizu provided was lack of inner monologues. Inner expository monologues are fucking cancer and are the main reason why anime is considered a joke medium.
Bad Aniplex gouging and marketing where they thought NisioIsin benefit novels would mean instant repeat viewers but it didn't. Also as someone pointed out the franchise was never all that good or accessible to the public the way something like GuP, Love Live or Your Name was to begin with and subjecting it to mainstream critics instead of just retarded anime fans by putting it in theaters instead of just late at night is just like asking to take it up the ass from them. It's also been milked to fucking death at this point and I think splitting it up just made people even more tired of it by the time the second movie rolled around 6 or however many months later. We're not talking something like Star Wars here exactly either.
Idolshit is mainstream?
Not really. The same market segment as Keion but bigger. Namely Otaku by the bucketloads and little girls that play the mobile app. Mainstream in anime is One Piece, Cona, Hosoda and lately Shinkai.
I'm still going to see it.
Divide it in 3 movies
2 would've been ok, 3 is too much.
get tore down by critics?
What? If anything Kizu was well received.
In the case of Mekaku City Actors they and Aniplex might have literally killed the Kagerou Project along with this Jin guy they pimped out with it.
First week Light novel sales before MCA anime

First week Light Novel sales since MCA anime
126,837部 15/03/27 **10日 カゲロウデイズ Ⅵ －over the dimension－ *早売り2.5日
*58,843部 16/08/27 ***9日 カゲロウデイズ Ⅶ －from the darkness－ *早売り1.5日
The first one is a number they pimped the fucking shit out of before they started doing the anime and one of the main reasons they even did it in the first place even though they claimed Jin specifically requested them and to be allowed to do the scripts when it was obviously the other way around. Yet they're still going to be doing more that's the craziest part.
Part 1 did well
Part 2 was killed by Shinkai
It's not them, it's obviously Aniplex. Kizu film was supposed to come out in 2012 but by then Aniplex was getting fixated on finding more ways to monetize the SAO, Madoka and Fate anime brands and on this find any way humanly possible to get Gen Urobuchi's name on our product kick which clearly put Kizu on the back burner. Then they also figured MCA was the next big thing so pawned that off to Shaft with another bad single disc with music CD marketing scheme. Then that basically bombed and eventually they must have decided now that Shaft was finally starting to run out of material for Monogatari series that they might as well just do the Kizu cash grab thing now only split it up for maximum gouging and throw another Fate and Isin license at them on the side just in case. That's not really working out, but really the only things working out for them lately are some mobage Jew stuff and event ticketed fujobait stuff.
Because they cut it into three goddamn movies, the first is bare bones with only a few good bits and an assload of padding, 2 is fine ((IMO)) but a little rushed because it had 3 fights in it, and 3 will probably be the only good 'stand alone' movie, because it's got good character moments as well as action, instead of just prioritizing one or the other.
They seriously should have just made it into two normal length movies instead of 3 short ones, at that point it just feels like they were being greedy.
That said, I'm honestly still glad these are being made, feels like Kizu is something important to monogatari and it -should- be part of the animated content that's out now.
Part 1 really should have had little problem hitting the 1 billion mark with all the benefits and the infamous blind fan loyalty of the Monogatari fanbase even if it wasn't particularly outstanding and got mixed reviews. There's really no excuse.
believes in the "show, don't tell" meme and that it must be applied to everything
calls others plebs
the infamous blind fan loyalty of the Monogatari fanbase
Not a thing anymore
for no reason
There is a clear reason, all of his monologues are used to express is mental state, and oishi masterfully conveys this with his directing, with out having to rely on text to do so.
The series is getting stale.
Most otaku in Japan have moved onto something else.
Fail to turn the biggest late night anime seller into a 1Bil box office sale
It flopped as hard as they come. And it was canon.
They could've made a 2h:45min movie like Disappearance and it would have been great. This is some Hollywood level of jewing.
Yes you're a fucking pleb you greentexting faggot. Your chinese cartoons won't amount to anything because of trash like expository inner monologues. If you're used to being treated like an 8 year old kid then you can keep enjoying your trash.
Kizu III PV fucking when
They went into fucking cinemas and shit, it gained notoriety.
Trying to hide footfag fanservice behind a paper-thin veil of deep and artsy might work when only waifufagging otakus are watching, but those people don't go to cinemas.
Go back to shitposting about cuck porn on /tv/, you pseudo-intellectual: penultimateword.com
you're not doing your case any good by posting pseudo-intellectual blogshit you cancerous turd
Haven't watched part 2 yet, for obvious reasons, but part 1 was really pretty shitty overall.
It's a goddamned feature-length animated film. You can't just get away with slapping together the same weekly-airing QUALITY animation and expect people not to shit on you for it.
In addition, they're treating the story like you're going to sit down and watch the entire thing in one go - not in three different viewings over 4+years as they come out in theaters.
Terrible pacing, truly awful visual quality at times, and a distinct lack of the monogatari-quality dialog we're used to from the series.
Only redeeming factor is the not-terrible soundtrack, and that there are a few genuinely cool/impressive looking sequences thrown in.
TL;DR they got lazy and cocky, which resulted exactly how you would expect it to
Interesting. Is there any particular fall in quality or changes that made people stop caring? Or is it just people finally getting tired of it?
infamous blind fan loyalty of the Monogatari fanbase
Why do people always claim this is a thing instead of the possibility that people actually just enjoy the later material?
Diviiding something not-so-big on 3 parts
Peter Jackson did this too with Hobbit, and as a result it was shit.
all fads pass, user. This is nothing new or unique, and doesn't even have anything to do with the quality of the newer installments.
Do you even know the difference between narration and expository inner monologues? The latter is always terrible and the Monogatari series and, to be fair, the majority of LN adaptations out there, is full of shit like that.
It is just how time works. They love Kantai now.
and oishi masterfully conveys this with his directing
Not really, when he decided to run away from kisshot and then run back it didn't express as much as how he felt during the time like in the LN.
Kimi no Na wa flopped.
People still care since it's still selling above 20k which is a lot more than anything released last season.
it didn't express as much as how he felt during the time like in the LN.
It did for me. Araragi explained it clearly in his monologue.
distinct lack of the monogatari-quality dialog we're used to from the series.
Monogatarifags actually believe this. The dialogue was always trash.
There's nothing wrong with inner monologues. A lot of talented authors use them in their stories.
muh "expository" buzzword
Fuck off idiot.
take way too long to make it
finally release it, but in parts
people realize the whole franchise is shit
They should have finished when it was still hot.
if you didn't like monogatari dialog, you didn't like monogatari
why the fuck are you wasting everyone's time shitposting in a fucking monogatari thread, faggot?
Triggering weebs is so fucking easy. Enjoy your exposition, manchild.
did you even read this thread? this is a monogatari hate thread you deluded faggot. i'm glad that more people are starting to shit on this cancerous series.
calling people weebs on Cred Forums
Back to your shithole, cancerous crossboarder.
You don't know anything about writing. Stop pretending it otherwise.
Coming to Cred Forums calling people weeaboo
Using manchild unironically
Just go back to tumblr you faggot cuck
Being exposed to info dumps over the years might have damaged your brain, weeb. Now everytime you go to the bathroom and flush your brain down the toilet you'll be thinking of expository inner monologues.
bitches about crossboarders
is a crossboarder himself
Most extra seasons sell worse than the original. That's just how anime sales work.
How many shows can you say the only redeeming feature is the sound track and character design for? How many shows can you can say you've seen somebody say they'll watch it just for the soundtrack or because X character looks attractive. Probably quite a few of late and I think that's partially the idea. Keep costs low, hype shit up, count on idiots to be stupid and shell out and there's plenty of them in the anime scene nowadays.
KNK first day was 75k.
I really doubt the director went into it thinking like that. They have to put in an enormous amount of work to animate things for little pay, at the very least there has to be satisfaction for the guy at the top. I don't know what people were expecting, the movie seemed exactly like the rest of the series to me. This is what movie quality is like when you don't have magical hollywood dollars.
the movie seemed exactly like the rest of the series to me.
Kizu looks better than the tv series.
Here. Read this, shitposter. Learn a thing or tow about writing while you're here.
Inner monologues can be an interesting way of developing a character.
Yeah it was but somehow people got convinced his twisty nonsense dialogue to fill page space was deep and meaningful by default. Anime fans are rock fucking stupid particularly in the last decade of the rise and arguable decline now of light novel dreck writing and design theory. It was exactly that franchises time from 2009-2012 when the sort of slice of life characters droning at each other for episodes on end thing was peaking thanks to Kyoto Animation string of late night anime hits based on Light and Visual Novels and was seen as the pinnacle of deep and engrossing character study and nuance while nowadays it's more just the typical sort of fujobait, idol or hype action schlock show with Sawano or Kajiura music slapped onto it that brings home the bacon and gets all the attention.
I still think Shaft is going to animate the off season after they done with Aniplex latest attempt to milk the Fate property because they have nowhere else to turn really but I'd say that franchise is already on the fast track to devaluing itself thru too much exposure and an extremely rapid decline in overall quality since Aniplex really started getting involved in it. It seems to happen to everything that gets popular and they get the animation rights to eventually.
Me too. The kiddie gloves have been on for this franchise and Shaft for way too fucking long and Shaft fans allowed to go around acting like cock of the walk who can say or do whatever anywhere they go because goddammit they support Shaft unconditionally. It's retarded and ridiculous. Shaft have consistently been putting out shit work for years now and should be called on it more but aren't because people are brainwashed by Sony marketing that they're this premiere arthouse studio at the forefront of the industry despite their shitty work speaking for itself. The last thing I feel like they put any effort into at all was the Madoka Magica film and that was mainly visually.
again you faggot: expository inner monologues are always terrible. take goodfellas for example. the MC narrates the story without infodumping the viewer and because the script is fucking good. you can't say the same thing about LN trash.
Obviously but morons are convinced they are this rich studio floating in money and that are entirely on top of things when they're the exact opposite. The only reason they keep such a high profile even is because they're a favorite for Aniplex farming out the big otaku fujobait licenses they manage to score the adaptation rights too.
You have to remember Shaft is basically a meme studio and perennial favorite for shitposters and MALtard types to say all kinds of crazy shit about that isn't true.
Why did you stop shitposting MAL Kaioshin_Sama?
Expository inner monologues in japanese media are not exclusive to LN adaptations. It's even worse when Manga does it. I was reading punpun the other day and I couldn't take it seriously due to all the exposition. That's why I rather read lighthearted shit like Gintama or SZS when it comes to manga.
thinks a character narrating the story is the same thing as a brief inner monologue meant to show or tell what the character is feeling or his surroundings
Goodfellas had both inner monologues and narration you stupid shit. It also had zero exposition.
It's even worse when Manga does it.
That's because most manga artists are not really competent writers. The art might be good but the writing is subpar for the most part.
Then why are you acting like the two are equivalent? You're clearly clueless about this. Exposition is also a key element in literature. Fucking Shakespeare has a lot of exposition, you retard.
You conveniently forgot this senpai
Kizumonogatari Part I: Tekketsu-hen: 50,189.
Shakespeare wrote stage plays meant to be played by actors in stage in the 17th century you stupid cunt. How the fuck are you even comparing Shakespeare to fucking chinese cartoons? Most Chinese cartoons adaptations from LNs don't even try. They just copy and paste the source material and call it a fucking day.
Shakespeare wrote stage plays meant to be played by actors in stage in the 17th century you stupid cunt.
In essence, that isn't much different from a movie adaptation, so the comparison is still valid. It's just one the many examples anyway. There are many other great works that rely on exposition to introduce background information about events, settings, characters etc. to the audience or readers. It isn't something that is always negative to the narrative like the pretentious retards on /tv/ want you to believe. This belief is a new thing.
So? He still relied on a lot of exposition to enrich his writing.
SHAFT should've waited a couple of years more.
They waited too long as it is, Monogatari isn't as huge as it was 5 years ago back when they first announced this movie.
People are talking about it being or not being shit or whatever when that's straight up irrelevant. The audience have moved onto other things now, and that's all there is to it.
comparing Shakespeare to Reki Kawahara
Fuck off faggot.
Have you ever seen a Shakespeare play live? There are no expository inner monologues because it's the actor's job to play with the subtext.
Monogatari's author is Nisio Isin, dumbass. I'm not implying that he is as skilled as Shakespeare or anything like that. I'm saying that there's nothing wrong with his usage of exposition, inner monologues, etc. They're all common elements of literature.
I'm just using Shakespeare as an example of a famous author who uses utilizes a lot of exposition in his work. I don't even understand what you mean with this "expository inner monologue" bullshit. Inner monologues are expository by nature, they are meant to show or tell the character's feelings, thoughts, surroundings, etc. so it's redundant to put the "expository" before that.
it took forever to come out.
Well it's a fucking terrible example because Shakespeare wrote stage plays which require exposition because they're fucking plays and the actors convey that exposition through their fucking acting. Also, Shakespeare was a poet and a very economical writer unlike most LN authors.
Expository inner monologues are precisely inner monologues that don't need to exist because the general idea behind said monologues is already fucking obvious.
Also an example of an expository inner monologue would be something like this:
Man jumps through window. "He's jumping through the window! Is he trying to escape?! If he escapes, I won't be able to catch him! If I don't catch him, that is a bad thing!"
most anime is riddled with shit like that honestly. i think they do that because animation is very expensive so they use that sort of monologue to cut off the expenses. it's a shitty way but the anime industry is fucking poor. that's just how it is.
I didn't mind the lack of monologues. The visuals and mood of the movie was enough to convey everything it needed to convey. You could pretty much remove inner monologues from most anime with decent visuals and direction, and almost nothing would be lost. I suppose they do it to service LN fans, since they get to listen what they read on the book.
So you're talking about a type of monologue which doesn't even exist in Monogatari? What's your point again? The main intention of Araragi's inner monologues in Kizu is to develop his character and make him more relatable to the viewer/reader, not to estate the obvious.
kek. Ippo and Jojo are guilty of that.
You mean the whole lets stop absolutely everything that's happening for anywhere from five minutes to half an episode to have characters drone at each other so nothing has to move thing that founded Post 2000 anime studios love the crap out of? It's funny because for the longest time millennials couldn't stop going on about how this was like the holy grail of what goes into making a quality "deep" anime and great characterization and storytelling when really it's just fucking boring cause usually the dialogue is from stock LN shit that was initially meant to fill page space and meet a quota.
It was like the more dialogue the better plain and simple, quantity over quality just like the anime industries approach in the past dozen or so seasons in general.
So you're talking about a type of monologue which doesn't even exist in Monogatari?
not him but there's plenty of that shit in monogatari. specially in post-bake seasons. in bake it wasn't as prominent because shaft used their slide presentations at the beginning of each episode to minimize the inner monologues and I thought that was cool honestly. i still don't mind it though even if it's overdone.
Except Monogatari's whole point are the character interactions, so it's to be expected for it to be very dialogue heavy.
I feel like Jojo almost manages to do so in a really humorous way that is self-aware without being annoying about it. Monogatari manages to be annoying about it pretty much constantly with how wink/nod it is about otaku and harem cliches. Honestly the dialogue in this series is just awful and a distraction at best. Like I get the whole word and kanji play aspect but outside of a written medium it really means jack shit to me and even then isn't enough to make up for how drawn out the dialogue scenes can be and how increasingly annoying the characters come across the more it indulges in them.
I fucking miss when more popular anime wasn't based on trashy light novels and didn't have to be written and directed from the static and uninspired angle that often comes with adapting from them.
Old school anime had that sort of shit too you nostalgia ridden baby. It's a japanese thing. Even their hentai is filled with unnecessary exposition.
It's been going on for almost seven years now with regular installments every couple of seasons. A lot of people are worn out with it leaving only the hardest of the hardcore Nisio fanboys. It's long since lost any potential it has to grow it's fanbase or go anywhere and is just kind of trundling along as an instant revenue type thing that Aniplex can get Shaft to do a few episodes of in-between whatever else they're farming out to them.
not him but there's plenty of that shit in monogatari.
I don't recall any of it. If there's exposition there, it's to develop the characters. It's not pointless.
implying monogatari isn't self-aware
Seems to me that you're just a cherrypicking faggot.
Inner expository monologues are fucking cancer
there is nothing wrong with them.
the writing in jojo is even worse than the writing in monogatari so i don't know what you mean by that.
