-3D backgrounds with cheap paint filter (specially seen in his room). fucking items on floor and walls are litterally falt textures applied to surfaces, not even the paste on picture later - boxes, shirt etc textures and with perspective issues.
-Body lightning/tones never matches scene lightning. I.e. remains bright in darker scenes, does not match day time.
-overall cheap and bad backgrounds, badly post processed
-pointless Shinbo "dark shadow" scene
-typical retarded shinbo "direct" perspective of the club room. Its his signature, sure - but 90 grad angles look retarded in anime and cinema, and it doesnt fit manga.

Nisekoi was selling 80-90k before the anime the anime gave it a boost. Its peak was around 250k per volume. Shaft or not studios tend to give a boost to manga because that what manga is. An ad for the source. Stop shitposting a quick look at older vols can show you that. The disc sales were good for it as well. Season 1 sold above 5k while season 2 sold below that. The we have the merch that is being made constantly so it has to be selling.

SoulTaker, Cossette, YYH episodes are his best works. You don't have to be a blind hater. He is a great director. We just havent seen much from him apart from Shinbo directing the entire studio at Shaft.

The only his work i respect is Moonphase. SoulTake was mess, despite being his only show done by decent studios. But he didnt develop positively since then at all.

As far adaptations from him go, we all remember how "great" he is from Negima anime

Negima was great for me because the style and humor made it enjoyable. I never read the manga so I can't share the same frustration as sourcefags.

If the rumors are true we might be able to see his evolution with this series. The storyboard in the PV already have more Shinbo flare.

It looks passable and like what you'd expect from a daytime NHK series. You can tell NHK is really taking charge of this project though and not allowing Shaft and Aniplex to engage in the usual Monogatari animation style shenanigans. Also Bump of Chicken on music who are decidedly not Sony Music affiliated points to NHK getting in on music as well so I expect that element to be above average for a Shaft show too.

It's kind of funny to see Cred Forums go from constant Monogatari wank threads to barely caring about the franchise anymore in the last few iterations. It's like SHAFT only comes up in relation to ironic shitposting studio wars with Kyoani anymore and I'm mostly okay with that. They were massively overexposed for a while post Madoka Magica for what they've actually been contributing to the industry and barely seem to give a shit about anything anymore.

Either way the point of his criticizm in this case is not that he`s bad director - but that he forces his style too much where it is not needed.

3gatsu is a popular manga, from author whose works already were adapted before successfully. People expect a good adaptation. Instead they god "shinbo".

I`ll give example of previous Nisekoi adaptation, which while successful - was not what people wished to see. They wanted a proper by the book visual stayle and direction of the genre - like say JC Staff does not successfully with Shokugeki no Soma, since they understand how its done: instead got Monogatari light visual and direction wise.

Sometimes Shaft style and direction fits the shows well - Arakawa, Monogatari (also i feel its bad as adaptation of Nisio LNs, but ok show), Koufuku Graffiti, Hidamari, SZS , Sasami (also shaft ver is inferior than Kyouran Kazoku Nikki) etc.

Other side SHAFT is a weight bringing the show down and it could have been done better by anyone else: Dance in the Vampire Bund, Negima, Natsu no Arashi, Nisekoi and this.

Pretty much everywhere is utter crap to talk about anime now unfortunately including even the Something Awful forums where people used to have taste but now are no different from MAL, Crunchyroll, Cred Forums etc. I mean aside from the last couple years being overall overhyped dogshit for TV anime people could be talking about some of the solid movie and OVA stuff that has come out in spite of that issue but all anybody seems to care about is the hype or hate factor anymore and telling you all about how x show makes them feel one of those two extreme emotions and then those two camps just go at it for weeks on end. In my opinion they aren't doing anything different with how they animate compared to Ghbili, Kyoani, and JC staff. Those 3 studios have a distinct style that can always be noticeable. With Shaft they just borrow gimics from their previous works. Which isn't a bad thing. The only time I really felt that shaft is being overbearing is with MCA with its overly Shaft visuals. But Nisekoi and Koufuku were fairly tame. That has more to do with both being by the same director.

"shaft" style is not unique anymore and "spread" (with staff leak mostly) and you can see genuiene "shaft" say in Silverlink, Deen and occasionally elsewhere now.

Shinbo for example, thankfully moved away from playing with colors and silluetes like retard, but went too much into "paper theatre" approach.

For example if KyoAni tries to make their anime as cinematic as possible - up to depth of field, camera shake etc. Ikuhara is theatre fag that sees anime as a play and everything as decorations, litterally - composing shows like musicles.

Shinbo on other hand does en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamishibai , (litterally slideshow heh). Evident in his scenes composed like viewer watching a theatre scene at 90grad, lack of depth in scenes (background is decoragion, theres is only one horizontal line on which "actors" stand too). Secondary use of "texture" - litterally from paper cutouts, to flat or unmoving. Pic related for example is not Oshi`s touch, but Shinbos - which he uses over and over since Moonphase and earlier. But for the most part I agree with you. But can we really say Inou was "by the books" it was still very trigger like in the visual department. To me it was Trigger but without the Imashi template. Even LWA is somewhat more tame trigger.

Regarding Shaft. Do you really want them to make a normal show? I gravitate to them because they don't. With over 30 seaonal anime and maybe 20 watchable for otaku series, I dont need everything to play by the books.

But if we are going by the books I think Sangatsu no Lion is going to be the one to do so. As many noted NHK is calling the shots rather than Aniplex which gives us a good sign.

The first two are true only it's more than a 100% decrease for Kagerou Daze, the third one I'm pretty sure is complete bullshit and according to preorders Zaregoto is doing okay at least for the first volume with stalker prediction of about 8,000 BD and 1,500 DVD. It should also be mentioned that each volume is dirt fucking cheap but also only comes with one episode, but even then with the Amazon discount it costs about 3,000 yen on the dot for both BD and DVD versions. Why they have the same price I honestly don't know.

Actually no it's not to be honest. You'd expect it's sales to go up after the anime or at very least stay the same, not drop like 200% then 400% from the last volume to be released before the anime. That's really really REALLY fucking horrible as a result.

Yeah, Imaishi's anime looks like Imaishi. Yoshinari's anime looks like Yoshinari. Amemiya's anime looks like Aqua Teen Hunger Force. That's my point. Their works are specifically them, not any house style they follow. That they would produce a "by-the-books" adaptation when directed by someone less idiosyncratic isn't exactly noteworthy.

Yeah, they will usually have cartoonier than average animation (which also applies to InouBattle anyway, so kind of a moot point), but that's not the same as having someone like Shinbo ensuring every show fits the same stylistic scheme.

Other way around, they actually talk about more than just Shaft and Kyoani shitflinging wars because they actually somewhat have a clue what's going on around them in the anime scene unlike Western anime fans that get all their opinions and information force fed to them by the likes of Crunchyroll and hype marketing campaigns or through shitposting nonsense on Cred Forums.

It's truly amazing to me just how modern anime fans come across like these braindead zombies that can only shitpost or tell people how x makes them hype and ready to throw their money at y. They're unfortunately some of the most boring people on the planet with the least interesting or original things to say really and think resorting towards inflammatory shitposting or parroting other louder idiots opinions somehow makes their comments any more insightful or valuable.

Eh it's no surprise that the number of actual unique anime fans is dropping of late. People just get tired of the shitposting and there really hasn't been any sort of series that has truly engrossed people in years. It's all just fake extreme opinions over shit we all know to be mediocre and forgettable, but that dedicated shitposters still take the time to do their rituals around. If somebody wants to make a show that is truly interesting and people actually want to pay attention to and talk about seriously I'm sure things would improve at least a little. Until then it's just going to be the same group of 50 or so shitposters and the odd person that strays into the anime scene but has nothing to contribute because they're dumb and boring.

Well Re:Zero was actually well received so I expect it's number to go up and stay up for about that amount of time. It'll need a sequel series at some point possibly in 2018 to stave off the drop a bit though.
