call knk flop just because came in second is like calling snk flop just because it doesnt overcome op in sales.

It wasn't a flop.
But honestly, Kimi no na wa is one in a lifetime success for Makoto.

It sold more than GuP in its first weekend.

>flop
>Outsell Shaft's Kizu pt1 and 2 whole opening weeks in a single weekend.
This is silly. 280Mil on the opening weekend is not a flop by any metric.

>all these kyoanus lickers trying to make it look like it did better than it really did
Fucking kek

>not Shippai no Katachi
You trolls aren't even trying.

Well, the fact is that it scores 2 place wasn't made up.

>9 6 Yell for the Blue Sky Toho $650,038 -41.1% n/a - n/a $10,017,253 4
I just hope this means we'll get an anime adaptation too.

Kyoani found a way

Shinkai really made it.

>Kimi no na wa is going to beat Shin Godzilla
What the actual fuck?

It will not even be close, Kimi no na wa will be in the top 10 of highest-grossing movies in Japan soon.

Where were you when Kimi no na wa blow everything the fuck out?
myanimelist.net/topanime.php

wasn't he already proclaimed as the next miyazaki?

>next Miyazaki
That's Hosoda and before him Kendou. No one else was touted as such by the Jap media.

Not yet. He is only big in Japan. But even in his homeland, most of his movies has a mediocre box office.
He always had a potential to be big worldwide but never actually made it.
Even though movies like 5cm/s, Garden of Words, etc. were kinda popular, they never reached the level of recognition a Miyazaki's movie has.
Kimi no na wa might be a game changer if it catches fire on the West.

Good but not great opening
6th best 2nd week of all time
3rd best 3rd week of all time
Best 4th week of all time

Kimo no Na wa is already going to flop so who cares

KyoAnifags used to laugh at Nagai and Okada.
They can't laugh now.

I think it just slowly catches interest.
At this rate it's gonna stay on top for the next few weeks.
>I can't read

I want to say that these threads are redundant. But the Kyoani fanbase had it coming, i guess.

The anthem of heart wnd opening: ¥120,000,000
A Silent Voice wnd opening ¥280,000,000

>31 years of age
She seems young to be directing anime, but I don't really have any idea what the industry is like.

>movie make more than 2 million on it's first week.
>Litterally more successful than a live action movie and a blockbuster.
>shitposters still calling it a failure.
I know they don't follow logic but man, repeating something over and over doesn't make it true.
Im really eager to see Kimi no Na wa and KnK now though. Unfortunately I don't think they'll get screened much outside of Japan.

Gotta wait for that Bluray user.

She's one of the few exceptions.
I guess KyoAni's environment make it easy for a potential talented staff to get noticed.

Women in the anime industry seem to get promoted faster than men though.
Rie Matsumoto is around the same age as Yamada.
Sayo Yamamoto got her directorial debut when she was 30.
A lot of female animation supervisors are still in their 20s.

She's was the youngest director to have a 10k+ anime. She's the youngest director for a late night 1Bil+ anime movie. She's the best rising star in Japan. Even the Jap movie reviewers are circlejerking her hard right now.
You know that this can realistically beat out AnoHana in viewership even without a single box office sale right? And this movie is outpacing everything late night except those over Keion in the standing.

Yamada > Yamakan

>Yamakan

The inappriopriate touching guy?

Looking back, Yamada has a pretty smooth career.
Most people are stuck with being key animators.
myanimelist.net/people/7498/Naoko_Yamada

It's mean to compare Yamakan to someone with actual skill and talent and doesn't have a big mouth.

Both can't do shit without Kyoani so...

Isn't it doing better than most recent anime movies? Not including Kimi no na wa of course.

It has done better than anything not named Keion, Love Live, Eva or Madoka.

Fixed

Why would people care about if something was a flop or not? How would that fact affect you?

p-please respond

It's some good shitposting fuel to say a studio did something wrong, going bankrupt, losing fanbase etc etc

Free Movie, Phantom Sales, now this. Why is Kyoani on a flopping streak and can they ever recover?

Are you retarded? The success of something affects the future of whoever made it, so if you like a studio and they make a flop, obviously you wouldn't be happy.

¥323.9 million ($3.1 million) / 289,971 [366] - Pokemon XY&Z:

Meant to post it here. Will there be yuribait between the two cakes?

I hope so.

Free Movie got unexpected sales but not Phantom, it failed as expected, still KnK is not a flop not matter how much you post about it.

>two sexually repressed milfs getting drunk together

Unless you're on a Gonzo leve of track record there is no realistic chance that a flop is going to affect a studio.

KyoAni should animate this as the BD's bonus.

If it's successful, does that mean we'll be getting more doujins of it? Cause I need some Ueno hate-fucking to ease my hate-boner here.

No. Otaku hate KyoAni and they're the ones who make the doujins. That's why you don't usually see stuff for KyoAni shows.

>Otaku hate KyoAni
>They attend in spectacular numbers to a KyoAni movie opening
Makes you think.

Glad I didn't read the manga. Most of the complains seem to be related to cut content.

how was it a flop

Those are the normalfag who watches anime type. Die hard otaku, the akihabara who records all shows type and posts on 2ch hate KyoAni.

It didn't get 500 mil on the opening weekend. Major flop. How will KyoAni recover?

By restructuring their business into tomato farmers

>That's why you don't usually see stuff for KyoAni shows.
are you for real?

Do you have the numbers for Love Live movie, Evangelion 3.0 and Girl und Panzer?

>not Mochi sellers

Where the camrip at doe??

¥400.2 million ($3.3 million) Love Live! The School Idol Movie
¥1.133 billion ($14.1 million) Evangelion 3.0
¥128.4 million ($1.1 million) Girls und Panzer: The Movie

When are the official numbers getting released?

Are these for a 3 day weekend or 2?

The issue is that Shinkai was a brand new filmmaker, and from the start, he's been getting noticeably better and better with every installment in almost every sense, even with stuff like cinematography, scenic views, and his original core 'strengths'. He experimented with a heavier plot starting with Hoshi o Ou Kodomo, and clearly learned a great deal from the experience with the following two movies.

I really wouldn't be surprised if he became the new Miyazaki after his true 'breakout' film, Kimi no Na Wa. He deserves it too.

Probably because there's a lot more younger women in the industry compared to a quarter century ago.

Woman directors are still relatively rare, though.

Where?

KnK confirmed for Anime movie of the Year

KnK confirmed for worst OST of the year as well.

Neo-KyoAni shows barely have any doujins and fanart for that matter, only Free has a good amount of material, and Sento from AmaBuri.

Yeah Amagi Brilliant Park has a severe lacking

is that inflation-adjusted?

You know what? I have problems trying to fap to any KyoAni girl.
I mean, some of them are hot. Other's are plainly beautiful, but for some reason I cannot fap to them, it's like I feel like they're too pure.

I think the only two KyoAni girls I use to fap from time to time are Mitsuki from their other KnK and Muse. Weird thing I never finished watching any of those since they bored me to death.

you'd probably have to ask the autist who assembles the numbers

How exactly did Kimi no na Wa manage to be so successful? The movie is entertaining and all but this is ridiculous.

Abe's propaganda to make Japs' reproduction rate rise.

Koe no Floptachi sounds catchy

Will Cred Forums ever recover from cancerous shitposting?

Sadly no. Shaft and Kyoani fags continue to bait each other not realizing it hurts them in the long run.

it's not my fault Shaft fans think their studio makes good anime

GuP only opened in 77 theaters. And it wont make 2.3 billion and still be in theaters for a year. Or sell over 220K discs. Well 250 mil opening weekend is more than was expected.

No one expected GuP to make 2.3 billion either.

did kyoani find a way?

Why are you KyoAnusfags getting back up?

They should stay down. It's just embarrassing. Your shitty movie is not even trending on twitter. No word of mouth will save you from this.

>not even trending on twitter
The state of current Cred Forums, everybody.

Who cares? I was looking for a (You) and you gave it to me. I accomplished my goal. In order to get (You)s we KyoAnihaters are going to do whatever it takes to make you feel bad, even if in the process we look like retards.
We actually aren't retarded, take note.

Yes, KnK is much less mainstream.

>Opens 2nd next to Keit-ai
>Flop

You know KyoAni found a way. Stop denying it.

It found a way with Shinkai's Kimi no Keit-ai.

Yes they found a way to fuck up their adaptation as usual

is the ending less shitty? does anyone know?

Haven't read the manga but someone yesterday said that it ends during the school festival

People that's complaining about stuff being cut should be burn to dead.
To begin with, the manga isn't THAT good. But everybody seems to forget that. From chapters 25 all the way to chap. 48 or so, the manga was completely garbage tier. If KyoAni actually managed to trim out all that trash then the movie might have a chance to be something great.

Wait a second I thought this was going to be a series not a movie?

Am I really that retarded?

>Am I really that retarded?
Apparently so, it was announced to be a movie on day one.

I never actually read one of the threads. I figured with Hibiki being their next work it wouldn't be our for a while so I could wait and avoid the inevitable shitposting that Kyoani draws.

I feel stupid.

Now that it's out and we've got trailers and the soundtrack and stuff the shitposting's better than ever. You're right on time, user.

>not ending it with pic related
Eh, whatever, the school festival is fine too.

Monday morning
*1 *88016 Kimi no Na wa
*3 *18161 Koe no Katachi
*2 *15550 Your Lie in April
*4 *13027 Samurai Hustle Returns
*5 12383 Rage

It is a public holiday in Japan so it can be compared with the Sundays figures

Sunday morning
1 *76305 Kimi no Na wa
2 *18339 Koe no Katachi
3 *13474 Rage
4 *13155 Samurai Hustle Returns
5 *13073 Your Lie in April

KnK is steady; Kimi no Na wa increases of 15%

280m during its first 2 day weekend. That's not bad at all. If next week doesn't have a big falloff it might reach around 1 billion during its lifetime.

I mean some of it is this But yeah, there must be something else in the collective consciousness of Moonland that has really grabbed their attention in Kimi no Na Wa

KnK is doing alright. I'm actually more worried about this.

Festival is a better ending
absolutely perfect if Shouko and him hold hands THEN

I hope it's good. Mai Mai Miracle was a disappointment and a half.

Six years kyoanus hasn't shat out anything even close to madoka.

Madoka is not good and Kyoani has churned out more masterworks in the last five years than Shaft has in 40.

I'm glad you like madoka that much because it's the only half decent series you'll ever get from Shaft.

Yeah, they haven't done anything nearly as bad.

Oh, you're right, how silly of me. How can madoka compete with the likes of chuuni s2, amagi, high speed, or kyoanus' crowning achievement, phantom world?

Those are actually the only Kyoani series it CAN compete with.

Madoka only sold that much because of the Cult of Urobuchi. I'm not falling to the "refreshing" argument. If something is decent, it should be called so not because it's different from what has been done in excess in the past.

@147415290
Ooh, cherrypicking. Classic.

Only vnfags and fatefags knew urobuchi right off the bat before madoka. And if anyone but shaft had done it, it wouldn't have been nearly as big a hit. Witness yuki yuna.

And yet yyy btfo madoka from every possible plot point, and without jewniplex shilling.

>no. 1 movie in Japan
>no. 1 anime on MAL

So this is the power of meme magic. Not bad.

Shaft is so good that the only shows people praise from them came out 5 and 7 years ago.

>Implying they didn't found a way

Hyouka and Chuu2 had a lot of ero doujinshi, there aren't a lot of Euphonium and Phantom World though but the lack of it isn't anything special when compared to other series.

It has more to do with what's popular during the current season than any hate toward KyoAni. For example, Euphonium came out at the same time as Danmachi, where the main girl got insanely popular while Phantom World was aired at the same time as Dagashi Kashi and Konosuba.
Recent KyoAni shows just get less doujins overall because with the exception of Free and Chuu2 (wich both has a lot of doujins), their genre aren't really otakuish enough. Euphonium is an obvious one, while their Phantom World was from the current wave of action shonen in that it didn't focus at all on romance and harem elements, Phantom also wasn't really popular wich didn't help.

Three out of those girls only found ways to fail.

blog.livedoor.jp/drazuli/archives/8433668.html

When you see it...

3 of those didn't fail at all

What are ppd, szs, and hidamari, Alex?

>tfw Shouko is part of Kyoani girls now

Only Mirai is a failure.
Rikka is a retard, but still she succeeded.
Tamako, she's kinda clumsy but her movie is masterpiece.
Kumiko. Kumiko is Kumiko. You won't find a better FMc than her since the 00's.

Hahahahano.

Pacing sucked (you can't half a cour of umi da into a 12 ep non-sol), the characters were much worse defined than madoka, and let's not get started on that bullshit ending that removed any consequences.

even older

It was hard to top manga Shouko, but they did a good job

Reminders of how laughably bad and cheap shaft used to be.

Szs is funnier and seems like it was more fun than any of kyoanus' output since lucky star.

I miss old shaft and old kyoani.

I miss old shaft too, but current Kyoani is pretty great.

-seems more fun
-seems like it was more fun to work on

I'm stupidly hopeful with 3gatsu
Zaregoto looks like a steaming pile of shit

Kyoani and Comixwave found a way. The numbers don't lie.

>It's some good shitposting fuel to say a studio did something wrong, going bankrupt, losing fanbase etc etc
Except in this case it isn't a flop at all, so are people shitposting over fantasies? Are they high?

People are shitposting over low-hanging fruit bait, saying that a movie opening in the number 2 spot is a """"""""""""""""""flop"""""""""""""""""".

why is she laughing

>Kumiko. Kumiko is Kumiko. You won't find a better FMc than her since the 00's.
Do people really believe this?

So exactly why is Cred Forums so mad at this movie/kyoani now?

not with shit like phantom world and chuu2 rei around.

It's the same user every thread

Really embarrassing

She's a very good character

So it's Kimi no wa really that good? I wasn't even planning to watch it.

KnK currently third, how is it compared to yesterday's 4pm stats?

It's no. 1.

Overrated garbage like Gintama.

What's the You Lie in April movie about? is it just the same as the anime?

I don't have hard numbers, but I remember them being around that much. I didn't realize people watched movies on Monday though. Also, it was a surprise seeing Shigatsu climbing to 2nd.

Ah, thanks

I sincerely hope Phantom is the bottom of the curve, and we're only going to go back up from here. Hibike2 please deliver.

Phantom was fun though

They were both directed by Ishihara, coincidence? I'm not including Eupho because Yamada co-directed.

Phantom was goddamn boring, even Chuu2ren is much funnier than it.

Yuno is Cred Forums's wife.

Out of sympathy for taneda?

How was the OST? Can any Cred Forumstants chime in?

Very experimental. Honesty I'm a pleb when it comes to fancy music and though it was garbage. I guess they were trying to go with muffled deaf sounds or something.

Amazing.

MTSP should make another Koe no Katachi doujin.
This time, with the other milf, then again if it is with previous one again, I wouldn't mind at all.
Or both of them, getting a bit greedy!

PLEASE go back to Cred Forums.

I'm waiting for the OST to come out. I need that ed.

You have to go back.

>there must be something else in the collective consciousness of Moonland that has really grabbed their attention in Kimi no Na Wa

It's just marketing. This was one of the most highly marketed anime films in recent years. It got more marketing than Disney films. The whole "Miyazaki's successor" angle is also part of the marketing scheme, because Ghibli's animation studio was closed and the guys with the money need to find some other lucrative asset. So they put their money on Shinkai's film.

Kimi no Na wa is not significantly better than his past films. But it got two orders of magnitude more marketing than them. Seriously, this past summer the film was pushed EVERYWHERE in Japan. You couldn't walk the street or turn on the TV without running into a Kimi no Na wa CM or endorsement.

If it doesn't brake 150 million dollars in revenue, I don't think they'll recoup their marketing budget.

It helps that the producer for Kimi no Na Wa. has been behind Hosoda's previous movies, so he obviously knows a thing or two about finding the right recipe for a hit.

In Japan they are saying "Shin Gozilla" is for old male freaks, and "Kimi no Na Wa" is for young people.

Guess what target audience goes to the cinema more frequently.

Is FlopAni the floppiest studio of our generation?

Anno btfo again

I hope there's a teleporting slap.

maybe i have fucking alzheimers but i really dont remember there ever being a school festival? what happened during it again?

They screened the film they worked on while Shouya was unconscious, the X's fell off people's faces. Of course, the film removed the film plot.

seems like a fine ending to me. i didnt like how nishimiya fucked off for 2 years.

oh, also, have you seen the film? do they hold hands, confess, or anything like that in it at the end?

>It helps that the producer for Kimi no Na Wa. has been behind Hosoda's previous movies

No he's not? None of them are.

>If it doesn't brake 150 million dollars in revenue, I don't think they'll recoup their marketing budget.
Yep, I'm sure their business plan had becoming a top 10 movie of all time as a break-even point.

dont respond to retards, user

Otaku shit is dominating the box office. What a time to be alive.

What boggles the mind, is the incessant praise they give Shin godzilla and Kimi no nawa. It's like praising a 6/10 movie just because it made a lot of money.

>Koe no Flopachi

step up senpai

Kimi no na wa is a 10/10 Anime of the Millennium.

Your Name was better

It will be the best anime movie of all time, they said
It will stretch kyoanus worldwide, they said

Biggest single day ever for Kimi no Na wa and the day is not over yet.

Koe no Katachi is also doing very good.
What a time to be alive!

Why does it keep happening? This is unreal for any kind of movie.

Only retards thought it will flop. These anime movies are cheap as shit, they probably got their money back by now.

Hype. Praise and word of mouth.

I don't think the anime is worth all of it though.

>it pulled ahead of shigatsu

Was shigatsu somehow more of a daytime film and KnK an evening film?

youtu.be/TTiOhl6gRtg

Ping pong ost > KnK ost

Shinkai will went full feel good after this which is a good thing, his butthurt bullshit is boring pile of shit.

>hrrdrr let me keep spewing this bullshit till an idiot or two actually buy it

It's not a flop but it's not a hit.

And your point is, what? Did I ever say it's a hit? Stop being a retard and go read OP again

lol

Lol it is a hit. A big hit actually.

It's a big fucking hit for Shochikou. It's Outperforming AnoHana right now without the media blitz that Aniplex pulled for that movie or the big names attached to it. This is probably going to hit 900M to 1B on a 100 screen. This is Disappearance level of happening for Shochiku and KyoAni.

xD le epic studio wars are so fahnny

An average animated movie costs about 500k in production. This however isn't average since it's Kyoani so production quality is high and it's a very long movie. Costed a fuck ton, barely made any money back so far and won't have much legs due to Kimi no Na Wa, so tell me how is it a big hit?

>Free is a flop.
>Eupho is a flop.
>Another Kyoani series is a flop.
>Kyoani movie is a flop.
Heard it all before.

xD

You're absolutely retarded.

Budget doesn't dictate animation quality. Staff experience does. You probably think ufoshit gets a huge budget too.

It's definitely a hit.

Yeah you keep believing that it's a big hit, it may just become so. Will it into being, that's right.

>koe no katachi
Art film about serious topics including disabilities, bullying and suicide.
>kimi no na wa
Commercial blockbuster about body swapping and boob fondling.

It's disappointing but not really a surprise that the latter is doing better.

Otaku always win.

BOOYAH

But KnK is the Otaku movie. Kimi no Wa na is seen by everyone and their girlfriend.

>Otaku always win
Then koe no Floptachi should do well, no?

It is and it's not even flopping.

>Otaku is the opposite of mainstream

That's not how it works anymore. The mainstream are Otaku. It's the result of the sharp decline in population.
garupan and LL! popularity are further evidence of this.

Not really. Compare a mainstream movie like Hosoda's or Kimi no Na wa to LL! numbers. Otaku aren't as big as you think. And that to not count big hitters like Yokai Watch, One Piece or The wind rises which made 6 times that of LL!.

>replying to a bait thread with actual arguments intead of ignoring/filtering or taking part in the shitpost

Holy shit.
How the fuck is this kyoani flop betting shows like shitgatsu and suicide with less than half of their screening? Did Kyoani found the way again?

You should found a dictionary before trying to post again.

Except that sounds way shittier

>Miyazaki
I think he already surpassed Miyazaki at making Anime, because those movies that Miyazaki produces aren't actual Anime, Shinkai went beyond that creating Anime that caters to both normalfaggots and otaku that's greater feat than only making the same plain shit for normalfaggots.

>because those movies that Miyazaki produces aren't actual Anime
Totoro and Kiki are both as otaku as it is. He went full normalfag mode after mononoke hime.

>Kimi no Na wa is not significantly better than his past films
Actually its premise is already more friendly with mainstrean audience than Shinkai previous movies.

Actually KyoAni staff is able to produce higher quality animation with less money, that's even why even Myazaki got impressed with KyoAni work.

It opened a month after Suicide squad. But yeah KyoAni found a big fat way. This is bigger than Keion for them because they're topping the committee for this so after Shochiku and Pony Canyon take their parts the rest of the profits goes directly to their bank account. Expect a lot more KyoAni projects of this type.

Source? Because I never read anything about Miyazaki commenting about KyoAni or any otaku studio for that matter. He only commented on movie makers.

>The mainstream are Otaku. It's the result of the sharp decline in population.
>garupan and LL! popularity are further evidence of this.
Literally retarded while otaku styled works are being appreciated by larger audiences, it does not means that, otaku are the majority or even close of being mainstrean.

Positive word of mouth.

>Suicide Squad keeps making money

Miyazaki makes family movies that everyone can enjoy. Without the scenery/background porn Shinkai's movies would be generic light novel romance garbage.

>KyoAnusfags trying to rationalize that flopping of their movie

Ok.

You are both right.

And you are a fucking idiot.

>You are both right.
You're wrong
And you are a fucking idiot.
You're right

Read this and you'll know why it can't trend on twitter
getnews.jp/archives/1524234

>there's this group of vocal kyoani haters that always create "kyoani le flop XD" threads

Even with Shin doing ridiculous numbers, it's still toku and toku always loses in the end

We can still laugh at Okada because she's shit

>can't trend on twitter
Otaku mostly avoids twitter and normalfaggot social networks.

>Sales = Quality

Anyone who claims sales are in any form, an indicator of quality should be shot.
More sales means more pandering to the masses. That's all it means.

More sales=more money for Kyoani=they can survive for longer before they go bankrupt

Quality is subjective and only audiences are able to determine quality, sorry that's reality, sales is the most concrete indicator of quality.

Its jealousy over superior Monogatari films. They're like rabid GuPfags. They should watch Shaft films to really know quality works that bring quality sales.

>kyoani
>going bankrupt
>almost everything they do sells well including this
It's not like KyoAni is JC Staff or DEEN or something

>bayformers is good
>sao is good
>eva 3.0 is good
Fuck off

>They're like rabid GuPfags
I don't think so, KyoAni haters or Shaft haters are mostly nostalgiafags/casualfaggots.

I'm really excited for Kimi no na wa.
When is it coming to the west?

JC or Deen aren't anywhere near bankruptcy either. They have multiple projects lined up. Studios like Madhouse and Gainax are the dead ones where they only get sequel projects or no projects at all.

Tomorrow

Sales are a good indicator for quality if it's for something successful I like.

Sales are a bad indicator for quality if it's for something successful I dislike.

Shitpost tactic as usual.

And KyoAni has some more projects in the works. Starting with VEG, then more Free! followed by FMP, probably after that they're going to animate Coppelia then Robot Heart Update. All that with a couple or more movies.

Exactly because quality is subjective, it cannot be quantified. A sales number doesn't speak of something's quality, it speaks of its marketability and appeal. How easy it is to sell it.

Paranormal activity took 20k to make and cashed in 200 millions. It is simply one of the greatest horror films ever made, you can feel the effort and passion of the staff in every frame.

>>bayformers is good
>>sao is good
>>eva 3.0 is good
Sorry to break it for you, liking those shows or not is subjective matter even if I agree with you about those movies you listed, you still must agree that its just about our tastes and nothing more, and due the fact quality itself is subjective you should try using other term to describe your evaluation.

>Madhouse only get sequel projects or no projects
OPM, Ore Monogatari, All Out, Death Parade, Parasyte

After the Hibike and Koe no Katachi success I actually think they're going to move to buying IP rights to animation like they did with these two. The quality of the LNs they have is subpar and the whoe thing about adapting LNs is subpar. They should focus on manga IMO.

I meant future projects which are two movies for sequels. Nothing else.

>subjective, it cannot be quantified.
That's why I said that sales the most concrete, still not enough but any other type of approach quantify it is a mistake, its the most concrete because its mostly determined by peoples evaluation and tastes which is proxy for quality.

>movies that Miyazaki produces aren't actual Anime

I suppose they will look to do more standalone movies now that KnK is a confirmed hit for them.

This, even if I don't like something that sells it does not means that its quality is low, people should try to used words based on its meaning and not based on what you wish it should mean.

They'll almost definitely get a decent amount of money and backing for content from Shochiku and Kodansha as well.

When will the movie be available? Does it have a DVD release date?

Nobody should ever judge something based on sales or popularity.

Unless the topic is about trying to explain or find an explanation why something sells good or is popular with this or that crowd of people of course.

Miyazaki himself said that and I agree, Anime is cited by him as being modern animation that Japanese people are producing, he describes his work as purely animation in more westernized way.

Based Shinkai, the god of romance. But was it actually as good as 5 cm per second masterpiece?

This. In most cases, the more something sells the dumber it is. Is has to lower itself to appeal to everyone. That's why real challenging works of art don't usually sell well.

Wow, Subaru sure got a new hair style.

Yeah and Miyazaki is an idiot. His work is not very western at all.

Kimi no na wa was good, in my opinion, but it wasn't better than 5cm/s or Kumo no Mukou.

I think Shinkai just got lucky somehow.

His works are very Japanese.

>Nobody should ever judge something based on sales or popularity.
You are right, but due the fact that quality is based on peoples subjective perception sales and/or popularity are the most concrete means of quantifying quality as it reflects the meaning of quality-group perception, but in the end your own evaluation is what matter.

Weird, I swear I remember some people called "critics" mentioned somewhere as quality indicator, I must be mistaken

>His works are very Japanese.
No they are undeniably Japanese because hes unable to completely disconnect his his Japanese experience from his work yet he still tries.

All Out's going to be 2 cours and they have this next year on top the of the movies.

myanimelist.net/anime/33337/ACCA__13-ku_Kansatsu-ka

>"critics" mentioned somewhere as quality indicator
Firstly quality indicator is not quality and using critics as quality indicator may indicate also lack personality from people solely relying on critics opinions.

I don't think he tries at all.

That's why buying "critics" may be more cost efficient than changing your product, both are valid means of changing the quality from your product.

Protip: he's pulling it out of his ass. He's done it with Shinkai. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes for Obama next. Take his statement with a grain of salt.

Most of his movies aren't particularity Japanese at art direction or plot.

>koe no katachi
>Art film

No and Yamada sucks Shinkai's cock

I wonder what Kodansha manga they should adapt? I'm hoping for a Ballroom e Youkoso adaptation by Yamada and Ishihara.

Vinland Saga by Takemoto or Ishidate.

Other way around, Shinkai can't stop raving about Yamada's films.

I thought about it but it's way out of their comfort zone. And unless VEG is a hit I don't think they're going to venture that far.

No, Shinkai sucks Yamada's pussy, actually.

Vinland Saga.

Right up their alley post Askeladd.

You can not like it all you want but it's always going to be considered an art film.

Also just an update. Today was the movie's biggest day with 80k viewers out 120k. So yeah it found a way.

Not even a flop though
But I don't care about this as long as kyo-ani can get enough budget to make Haruhi S3

Her pussy is roastie looking and turned black after being used Shochiku distributors begging for more cinema screens. But don't worry, you can jack off to her sex tapes that comes with KnK's BDs.

>3rd day is the biggest day
Damn, looks like word of mouth is getting around and people love the movie.

> Ballroom e Youkoso adaptation by Yamada and Ishihara.

Jesus fucking Christ, I want it.

How the hell did you even come up with that idea.

>This however isn't average since it's Kyoani so production quality is high

Wow man you actually made me laugh, because you're obviously one of those retards out their who think budget means quality whereas in fact quality actually depends more on schedule management

>a very long movie

And now you're getting even a fucking basic knowledge wrong. 2 hours something is by no means 'very long' for a movie, you stupid moron

Keep spewing that shit with which you're fooling yourself. Just don't expect others to be as dumb as you

...

>How the hell did you even come up with that idea.
The author likes KyoAni and Ishidate mention that he want to work on something with historical setting.

>Cred Forums has to start disliking Shinkai now that he's a mainstream success
Shoutouts to all five of you still around from the pre 5cm Shinkai threads, waiting for subs.

Beautiful farmland
White snow scenery
Plus they can put the action scenes that they learn from chuu2 and that inferior knk to good use.
They only need to find a new character designer.

Camrip when?

>the author likes Kyoani
Source?

>they need a new Character Designer
And what's my boy Nishiya going to do? He's more than up to the task.

Don't bother. According to him even my dog likes Kyoani.

Wait a minute, this guy is back!? I thought he has been on hiatus for her sister being sick. I hope she's all right now

twitter.com/makotoyukimura/status/551810120863076352
twitter.com/makotoyukimura/status/612575617276473344

Seems like no one ever has anything bad to say about Kyoani, just praises.

Besides Yamakan of course

3/4 girls are shit

He said something about Madoka as well.

Going by that logic, Shaft equally have the chance as well.

Except the twitter post from the thread yesterday, remember? But you probably don't wanna hear that because you still want to feel you're above us all.

Nah. Yamakan didn't badmouth KyoAni. But honestly why would anyone mention Kyoani in a bad light. They're far removed from the Tokyo focused industry so they don't directly compete with those and their adaptations are either good enough for the creators(Key and Keion guy) or they own the book so they don't care about the writer opinion(all their publishing label adaptations).

Which twitter post?

He said that he went back to watching anime because of Madoka but was captured instead by the works of KyoAni. You should really learn nip if you want to shitpost about their tweets.

>he went back to watching anime because of Madoka

See? Shaft still wins.

Sounds like they lost

Not really. The way he worded it was because of the hype of Madoka. So you can conclude that he found the hype about Madoka empty and went to the real meat of anime (ie KyoAni).

Retarded people having critics as their only means of judgement does not mean they aren't quality indicators. It's literally their job. Are you saying that awards are worthless?

Shaft is just good at style not animation per se, with strong creation sense but that's it, Shaft is more like direction firm, animation is mostly outsourced and low quality.

Probably he's referring to that gaijin that said that the movie was a mess with directorial issues and bad pacing, along with not being faithful to the source for removing the trash that was the second part of the manga.
He also said that Kizu was ruling the box office.

>quality indicators
Literally means group subjective perception, depends is such critics are able to influence the opinion from large groups, if they are able to do it or if they simply represent the perception from large groups they are good enough as quality indicators not because some inherent property from any piece of entertainment or art being subject of their critic.

Oh shit

>Art film about serious topics including disabilities, bullying and suicide.
If any of these suggests (disabilities, racism, tolerance, etc) mattered we wouldn't have boards like Cred Forums.
Tits > Muh good human behavior

As expected from a filthy whitu piggu.
BTW the release circumstances were great for Koe no Katachi as this holiday was the biggest since it started
2 88267 121476 500 101 NEW A Silent Voice
At this point I'm thinking this will surpass AnoHana and Anthem of the heart at the box office.

Art is buzzword but your opinion is probably shared by the majority

*1 329026 524250 1402 219 257.0% Kimi no Na wa
*2 *78267 121476 *500 101 ****** Koe no Katachi

*5 *50291 211930 1168 239 143.2% Samurai Hustle Returns

KnK fell 1.5% compared to Sunday, Kimi no Na wa increased 3%.

It's not a buzzword. It has pretty clear implications.

That's a fine opinion to have, so long as you make no claims at having taste or anything of the sort.

>2 88267 121476 500 101 NEW A Silent Voice

>*2 *78267 121476 *500 101 ****** Koe no Katachi
Which one is Monday's?

78 267, yet all the figures are estimates, box office is out tonight for numbers of last week.

On the contrary, they're some of the least Japanese works to come out of the Japanese industry. It's why they're so popular in the west. He borrows a lot from European works and mixes European folklore with Japanese folklore.

>quality is based on peoples subjective perception

Except it isn't. Beauty is objective. Fuck all relativists.

Stop with the KnK acronyms. I can't follow anymore.

Those are not estimates. Those are actual attendance numbers (from a subset of Japan's cinemas).

His "popularity" in the west is a minuscule fraction of his enormous domestic success, and said domestic success is the only reason he's ever been noticed outside Japan in the first place.

Not true at all. Kancolle with swords was trending the day knk premiered

Kimi no Na wa is confirmed to be a mainstream romcom with a miracle, designed and produced for the normies and youngsters who are into "anime".

If you are a true anime fan you should at least have the restraint to judge it on how it is, not how well it sells.

From all I've seen Koe no Katachi is fine, the fact that it didn't sell nearly as much is irrelevant.

Saw it. Wasn't impressed. Kyoani hasn't made anything good since Haruhi.

>normies

oh no the movie doesn't have screaming 3d animals or explosions and people being killed, must be otaku trash

>Kancolle with swords
Not otaku but fujoshi those are very distinct groups

>Except it isn't. Beauty is objective
No its not and and entertainment is about more than just beauty

>It's not a buzzword. It has pretty clear implications.
Like what?Try arguing about that you cant win.

Actually both Knk and Kiminawa got more moe elements that normally leads to mainstream rejection, even Japanese people are talking that few years ago due art style alone those movies would be totally ignored by mainstream audience, also Kiminawa LN is said to be run-of-the-mill LN i.e otaku centered.

>Knk got more moe elements that normally leads to mainstream rejection,

That's not true though, Knk could actually even work as dorama and as a LA movie without any change.

>due art style alone

Yeah, so at the most superficial level. Nobody should take that reaction seriously, it just means that jap people are less biased now.

> Kiminawa LN

Execution alone can drastically change the tone of the series, and there there's a person like Shinkai who can easily rework it with his personal style which isn't really otaku-ish and it's actually very normie friendly.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_film

The OP song might have a shot at the Golden Raspberry.

>That's not true though, Knk could actually even work as dorama
Maybe as live action movie but as dorama I don't think so, also not every anime targeted towards otaku has obscure plot, the point that normally creates rejection among mainstream audience is "moe" art style.

What's that OP song? I've listened to some of the OST and it's complete garbage, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Maybe Shinkai will finally make more movies with light-hearted endings

Well you'd have to think, what would people like to see?
>film about disabilities, bullying, suicide
>feelgood comfy movie
Even though the former might have much better writing, most people would rather watch an entertaining/comfy film.

When did he say Madoka was "empty"?

Is it possible he liked (gasp!) both?

>en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_film
You are defining art film that boils down to art/artistic which ultimately means nothing
>"intended to be a serious artistic work, often experimental and not designed for mass appeal"
using buzzwords to define related concept makes it also meaningless.

Late nigh anime are now Art film as they are niche and make almost no money.

So does it end better than the manga? Do they kissu?

Literally shit is art nowadays.

The damage control for KnK in this thread is reminding me of another KnK by KyoAni – which was, ironically enough, hailed as the Monogatari killer by KyoAnifags before it actually aired.

Why, it even had a main girl with pink fluffy hair and a not-Ueno of its own! How poetic.

>Monogatari killer by KyoAnifags
Not KyoAnifags just trolls probably the same people mass producing current threads

>Do they kissu?
Of course not.

Had never heard of this before i saw this thread - just finished it and i loved it! appreciate the tip Cred Forums!

dem feels at the end - fuck!
stay classy as always!

...

Too bad this KnK is actually grossing more than Kizu p2 and is on its way to surpass Kizu P1 was well. So in a way it is a Monogatari killer.

Everything is a buzzword to you, eh?

If you were to reduce the definition to just that then sure, but you know there's more to it.

And yet the kyocoven is probably claiming Antichristplex bribed theaters to not play Katachi. Sad, really.

Kizu is a failure through and through, an utter embarrassment. A fitting end to the Gatari franchise.

Just as shit as the manga then.

Lol only 1B? Already made over 400 million in 3 days. 2B is guaranteed.

For those of you who have watched it, I have but one question. How did they handle Ueno? She was my favorite character

Should've spent 2015 finishing Madoka. Now that show really needs a conclusion since it literally ended on a cliffhanger.

Plus it's tons better than Monogatari.

It didn't make 400. It made 300Mil by an optimistic prediction. And this was the launch week. 1Bil is a lot of money user. This is no Madoka.

Dunno, but the trailer has the scene in which Yuzuru and Ishida watch the video, so it shouldn't be much different than the manga. I'm more worried about Eyebrow and Kawai.

Her feelings for Shoya were only hinted at.

>Kimi no na wa still over 10 million
What the fuck?

>Her feelings for Shoya were only hinted at
What? How does that work? So she's basically antagonistic towards Shoko for no reason at all?

It sold over 210k tickets in a 3 day weekend (counting monday as basically part of the weekend since it was a holiday ). At 1800 yen a pop that's around 380 million or so.

This is Makoto Shinkai's big break.

Miyazaki had Spirited Away.
Hosoda had Summer Wars.
Shinkai's big break is Kimi no Na wa.

Yep. She was left as a bully mainly. You'd understand her if you've read the manga but watching the movie only you'd think she's literally Hitler until the masks fall.

Making 3 movies was the actual mistake, Shaft overJewed itself to death, maybe Madoka made them overly conceited.

>She was left as a bully mainly
>watching the movie only you'd think she's literally Hitler until the masks fall
Well that's really disappointing. Her main appeal was her attempt to make amends with Ishida while struggling with her dislike of Shouko, it kept things interesting in the home stretch

Blame Jewniplex, not Shaft.

>overly conceited
We were conceited! Ueno forever!

What was this referring to anyway?

If anyone should be pissed with Satanplex, it's you Shaftshitters. It was their decision to split this movie of a fading franchise into three parts a la The Hobbit, also with Pt. 2 dedicated to almost nothing happening. But then Shinburton never had the ambition or business ability to parlay those initial Monobucks so he never had the option to object. So in the end they have no one to blame but themselves.

Lets see... Art Film is "artistic" which means nothing also Art Film is characterized by not being profit driven with few people enjoying it, meaning it can be applied to late night Anime, but is actually term used by hipsters to feel superior about themselves, i.e. buzzword for pretentious people, that's why putting shit into boxes is also Art, few people like it and they are most likely massively pretentious individuals, that's your Art.

>split this movie of a fading franchise into three parts a la The Hobbit,
Seriously, why did this become a thing

>Her main appeal was her attempt to make amends with Ishida while struggling with her dislike of Shouko

Pretty much.

I wonder if KnK can do better than Summer Wars (¥1.5 billion)

>you should FOUND a dictionary before trying to post again.

Wasn't part 2 supposed to have a lot of fight scenes and sakuga?

Executives:Because it worked with Lord of Rings!!!

>also with Pt. 2 dedicated to almost nothing happening.

What? Aren't there the first 2 fights in Pt. 2? Are you sure you have idea of what you are talking about?

Corporate meddling

Worst part of it is they didn't given Jackson enough time to film. They were shooting scenes without any storyboards or prep

I'm sorry that your waifu left you for a liberal arts major, that must have hurt.

Miyazaki's big break is Princess Mononoke.

I really wanna watch 声の形!

私も!

いしょうに観ましょうか

>It's a flop, it's a smash hit, it's a flop, it's a smash hit, stuff stuff stuff

We need to collapse the quantum position of Koe no Kotachi.

Overspending on stage greetings with Nogizaka46 just to hit the 1 billion yen mark when your target was 2 billion yen bare minimum and Hosoda class ideally and you had a 5 day holiday to start your theater run is pretty fucking bad. Koe no Kotachi is practically where Anthem of The Heart was after only one weekend with a fraction of the benefits campaigns and marketing so yeah not bad. Anthem of the Heart is nowhere near as significant a film as the marketing lead up, aftermath and bought awards from Newtype would have one believe nor did it ever really make it out of that late night anime bottleneck the same way GuP did.

No, I'm not a faggot.

I never got the impression that Cred Forums ever cared much about truth and reality to be honest.

Hey man that's not nice.

It's extremely unusual for an anime film in this day and age to have that kind of breakout. For it to be from an original concept by a studio that has never had a major smash hit before is practically unheard of in Japan's brand name loyalty conscious society. It's enough to get me really interested just based on what a combo breaker and outlier it is, particularly with how much the anime industry has been on autopilot for most of this decade with it's milk the neet and fujo whales and mostly only care about late night trash anime disc sales strategy that makes absolutely no fucking sense as a growth strategy. Right now Shinkai, Toho and Comix Wave is practically clowning the entire anime industry single-handedly.

Think about it some of the absolute biggest hits in anime lately have been things that have successfully tapped the mainstream conciousness and found a way to go beyond just the standard late night anime sphere like Your Name, GuP, Osomatsu-San and Love Live. It's blatantly obvious the path the industry needs to take to not only sustain itself in the future but potentially grow but it'll probably decide that it's just too damn hard and continue to double down on the same old tactics of pandering only to whales.

Live action adaptation.

>3 N 4 gatsu wa kimi no uso (Your Lie in April) Toho $2,382,883 - 294 - $8,105 $2,382,883 1
Is it like a compilation movie or something?

It's a live action movie.

How come we don't have the standard "OH MAH GAWD IT'S ANIPLEX GUY IGNORE HIM!" posts coming out now? Too late in the thread?

When are the numbers coming out? Will it include Monday as well? Hopefully it did ~400m Monday included.

I don't remember this.

Maybe the poster that does that routine isn't online?

This was the latest estimate of last night. Monday not included of course
02 (---) ¥250,000,000 ($2.4 million), 0, ¥250,000,000 ($2.4 million), A Silent Voice (Shochiku) NEW.
So it should be around 380Mil.

>Koe no Katachi grossed more in 3 days than Kizu p2 in two weeks.

We know who the real flopper is this season.

Isn't Nishimiya's mom supposed to be in this scene?

...

It's a pretty nice movie, and I've only watched it on DVD screener. It's so good I'm even considering buying it. It will be the first anime and manga I've ever bought in my 15 years watching anime.

>I've only watched it on DVD screener
Someone should kill you for the sake of humankind.

I'm really sure humankind would suffer if I killed myself. I've even watched the movie two times. With hard subs, both Chinese and English, and watermarks.

youtube.com/watch?v=D35zKoYBaT8

It doesn't look bad.

Koe no Katachi was shown at the Kyoto
University of Arts School festival

How is that not literally art confirmed?

Meme University, literal community college tier. I would be impressed if it was shown at the actual Kyoto University

It's generational change. The poeple going to the movies now are more used to the style since they grew up with it.

Did it actually flop?

Nah.

Not even close. 300+ million on the first weekend with only 100 theaters is very good.

People are just comparing it to the Shinkai movie which is dumb.

>It's extremely unusual for an anime film in this day and age to have that kind of breakout.
That's a silly statement, all things considered.

We're talking about 15b+ total gross, something that only 5 Japanese films have ever done (of which 4 were anime, all by Miyazaki). So you not only ignored the sheer improbability of the event, you've also ignored the fact that if anything can do it, it's a modern anime film.

And I won't even mention all those other successful anime films from the last few years that "only" did a half or a third of that, because it's obvious you just want to pretend they don't matter.

As soon as Japan gets to work, so in a few hours.

I was going to post something important but I forgot what.

Shouko a cute?

It was more along the lines of "I want to cum inside Shouko". Speaking of cumming in her, do you think she lost her virginity while in Tokyo?

Her moving to Tokyo is not canon anymore.

youtube.com/watch?v=YHUusLkZz8c

Some new footage.

Late to the party but so fucking hype for this.
youtube.com/watch?v=kczb7IJJg0g
The manga was comfy as fuck.

He is garbage as director.

Yes. It fucking BTFO'd KyoAni. They need 6 gorillion to break even.

>japs would rather be tickled by yet another lovestory involving distance than face the hard facts of nuclear allegory
Who would have thunk?

You know as stupid as romance flicks are in America they're always a niche product. For the japs it's tier one.

I didn't know romance movies in America with body swapping, time travel and natural disasters, with little to no actual romance were so common.

I remember the first time I watched The Parent Trap back in 2000.

Oh shit I didn't know there was a new PV! Makes it look even better, I'm very excited. It's good to have stuff like this and Koe no Katachi to look forward to in a post Ghibli world.

Numbers out yet?

Delayed until tomorrow because public holiday.

So, did it flopped or what? Where are the numbers?

What is this movie

Is this that manga about the guy that bullied that one girl and then he was the one who got bullied but then she stood up for him

see

They're going to end it on the bomb aren't they? I they do I'm going to cry like a little bitch.

youtube.com/watch?v=gEVyA6pZvVM

Better quality of above.

>Not riding both Shaft and KyoAni's dicks

it's better because it doesn't end in bullshit, which is why it sells good too

*vomits*

>*actions*
Kill yourself.

Sexy sexy sign-language

*kills yourself*

Fucking facecam.

Your life is live action right now

Fuck

Call it Keit-ai.

>miyazaki confirmed full-blown senile
Well, at least we can stop having that debate.

4th day in a row getting only 1/3rd of Kimi no Na wa's ticket numbers. How will KyoAni recover?

It also had 1/3rd of Kimi no na Wa's screenings and also 1/5th of Kimi no na Wa's marketing.

Whoa, I really want to see Kimi no Na wa now.

>letting an attention whore faggot get a 2nd chance
>only stop because everyone got tired of his shit
>draw a whole series around it
no thanks

There's a rip already

Here you go, senpai.

youtube.com/watch?v=o_rz1bluG_k
youtube.com/watch?v=JLUjMWRCzic

You are right.

Kimi no na wa: 9.1 billion yen, that is place 10 of the highest grossing anime movies of all time and coming close to enter the top 30 of the highest grossing films in Japan.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_anime_films

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_Japan

Koe no Karachi is a flop compared to this movie.

>Shaftfags actually believe this
>Shaftfags bringing up Shinkai's movie as damage control

Kimi no Na wa is a flop compared to Avatar.

>Shaftfags

Huh?

I'll be happy if knk makes a billion. 1.7 billion would be perfect though. Just so it can beat all 3 kizuflop movies combined.

>I'll be happy if knk makes a billion

I think that's a pretty safe estimate at this point. We'll see how this weekend goes as well.

283 million opening weekend for Koe no Katachi. (That's without Monday.) Final gross of 1.5b expected.

411 million including Monday.

Why the hell would the government use this movie as anti bullying propaganda? If all the plot summaries and video snippets we've got so far are anything to go by, it is more of a romance/victim falling in love with bully/bully being forgiven story. I don't think that's a good message.

That was a good thread.

Please don't bully cute handicapped people who become beautiful girls. They're too beautiful to be bullied.

Why do people want to see Kyoani fail so much?

People hate successful con artists.

Shaft-fags cannot abide KyoAni for making shows with high production values.
KyoAni-fags cannot abide Shaft for making the supersuccesful Madoka.

Thus, they fight their shitty studiowars here on Cred Forums.

It isn't a romance story, that's just one aspect of the marketing to get people to buy tickets.

I don't think that's the point.

WHEN

Lower than usual

You wish faggot

I'm happy Koe no Katachi is doing great.

...

Shaft or Kyoani, they're two side of the same cancer coin plagueing the board.

>nips were complaining about tickets selling out on premiere day
They should have given Koe no Katachi the same treatment as Kimi no Na wa.

Box office is out.

Koe no Katachi week-end opening: ¥283 million
¥1.5 billion lifetime is possible

Kimi no Ni wa: ¥2.2 billion for week 4 with ¥1,076b this weekend
Total: ¥8.48 billion

Nice.

Shaftfags should hide. Koe no Katachi is beating the living crap out of Kizu.

We also have the estimates for Monday, which are around the number of Sunday ().

I'm happy to see one big hit helping KyoAni so much.

And yet KNNW still had fully packed theaters on its 4th week.

Your point?

Last for dead pigeons
