I wouldn't call DR2 a happy ending. Izuru recovering as Hajime only to still find everything boring and knowing what he has seen and done in his past. It's not a happy ending, DR1 had a happy ending in the case of going into the world with hope for the future.

It was a miracle, but it wasn't a happy ending. The ending was rather tragic as they decided to stay on Jabberwock, divided from the rest of the world in a small group of 6 people, with recovered memories of their past and knowing it. It's bittersweet as the other user mentioned.

Yup, but it was still a bittersweet ending. Same could be said for DR1 considering what the real truth was and what you figured out in the end of case 1-6. I'm of the opinion that it's vague to describe the endings as most are set up to have a certain "fill in yourself" kind of gimmick, but the further we went on with the series it just appeared to become grimmer and grimmer.
