animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-09-23/makoto-shinkai-your-name-anime-film-earns-10-billion-yen-in-28-days/.106814

I told you guys it's gonna be a success and KyoAni's movie was not going to do good because of this.

Only Spirited Away made better than that.

finds a way

What are the predictions now? Will it reach 15 billions?

>Shinkai will be seen as new Miyazaki now
>dude who take photos and filther them in photoshop

2much4me

¥15b is 100% guaranteed, ¥20b is very likely.

is this adjusted for inflation?

Between 18 billion and 25 billion.

Isn't that the Keitai poster? What.

I haven't watched his recent movies, did he learn how to write an actually interesting story?

youtube.com/watch?v=Y7qEpLmpAAM

who cares how good it does?

>Japan
>inflation

Thank you for my biggest laugh of the day

How the fuck can it make up to 100 times more money than Garden of Words?

>360p

>interesting

Sure, I guess. It is absolutely filled to the brim with needless, nonsensical drama though.

Huge marketing push through multiple channels, mainstream primetime TV in particular.

FINDS

Bayside Shakedown is the only one non-animated Japan's movie that made the list, wow...

Toho is a big time publisher and they went all out on this.

>Huge marketing push through multiple channels
This. They even made a successful meme for it, no way it would've failed.

Japanese inflation is mostly negative

5cm/s was the peak of his career though.

Indeed

Insane amounts of marketing, especially to the normalfag population in Japan.

...

i don't even get how this works. i thought they got raped in 2 bubble bursts/market crashes within the last 20 years.

how are they not horribly over inflated?

>how are they not horribly over inflated?
>year: latest available

>i thought they got raped in 2 bubble bursts/market crashes within the last 20 years.
Yeah and that's not exactly helping their deflation.

What kind of name for a movie is "Your name"

You forgot the 。

Just want to remind people since many of you don't actually live in Japan. "Your Name" debuted nationwide in all theaters on opening day. Whereas, KnK, was opened in select theaters only. I don't doubt that it will not make as much money as "your name," but to call it a flop or not a success when it's already broke even before releasing nationwide is just ignorance.

When you make rational arguments against trolls it makes you look like a whiny bitch just get over it

Garden of Words being shit might have something to do with it.

It sounds stupid in English but it sounds alright in Japanese.

yeah, should have been Keit-ai

KIMI NO ZEN ZEN ZEN SEI KARA BOKU WA

I'm pretty sure this movie is also shit, or at least will only appeal to the same kind of people.

The sad thing is I believe Keit-ai would've been a better movie than what we got.

I don't think this one's gonna be much better.

BD when?

Not adjusted for inflation.

*deflation

5cm/s is still his best film. Also, the editing in Kimi no Na wa is pretty weird.

Wake me up when it reaches projected 40bln that Detective Conan movie will earn in total.

It's actually good. This is his magnum opus.

>dude who take photos and filther them in photoshop

They did take photos but the pictures were painted by a Polish guy.

>not liking feet porn of a cake sensei
TAKE THAT BACK

You can polish in photoshop.

She actually appears in the Your Name movie as Mizuhas teacher.

Wait so is this a fan original animation? That's impressive.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_anime_films

It's already at No. 10. Also, guess what? Detective Conan isn't on the fucking list.

No Detective Conan movies exceeds 7 billion yen.

>tfw nothing will ever beat spirited away
feels good senpai

This is the Guy that painted the Backgrounds

>you will never make keit-ai actually happen purely for memetic purposes
why even live

>user shitposts Keit-ai at the behest of Makoto Shinkai.jpg

Viral marketing confirmed.

...

>Keit-ai shitposters convention

And suddenly I have the urge to watch this even sooner.

She appears for 10 seconds.

What the fuck is Soujiro from the live-action Kenshin movie doing there?

It's only sales

Monogatari still has the better plot and characters, not to mention music and a better director.

>Monogatari still has the better plot and characters

Oh, so now that Monogatari has worse sales, it's suddenly about plot and characters, huh?

He is Taki's seiyuu.

>No. 1 movie in Japan
>No. 1 anime on MAL

So this is meme magic. Not bad.

Samefag.

Itamura is honestly worse than Shinkai, and I think Shinkai is mediocre.

inb4 triggered niggered mods scrubbing any and all mentions of cellphone memes

Is your name the most successful mediocre movie ever made?

at least itamura is improving

...

Avatar

This 'KnK is doing poor' meme is so fucking annoying is hell. It's doing magnificent and Yamada has put another great work onto her portfolio. What's the problem with you idiots?

Stagflation.

I wrote my dissertation on this. The over-simplified answer is that they do grow, and then they shrink, so it averages to 0 growth. And they've been doing that for about 30 years.

Abe's been trying to do some shit about it, made a 3 point (arrow) plan for it, marketed it like the saviour. (Again, oversimplified but it'll paint the picture) 1. Print money. 2. Spend Money. 3. Change anti-competitive laws. Point 1 and 2 is pretty easy to pull off, and honestly it's a pretty impressive achievement that they haven't got inflation with just this alone. Point 3 involves a lot of changes to the law to try and remove some of the more anti-competitive laws which is going to be kinda hard to pull off without pissing a lot of people off, so it's questionable whether he'll be able to pass it. The only thing he has going for him is the TTP, as being part of this partnership would mean getting rid of some of the more protectionist laws anyway, so politicians might be pressured into letting Abe pass some of his laws if they want to be part of the deal.

>Boo hoo, it's making 1 billion instead of 10 billion

Seriously, what? It found a way too.

KnK is doing well. Kizu isn't. I can taste the tears of the SHAFTfags

Even the nips admitted it's just slideshow: the movie?

Does this mean meme magic is real?
Mods unban Keit-Ai kudasai

KnK, Yamada and KyoAni getting blown out. And Hibike S2 won't even break even next season. Bankruptcy soon.

Then you wake up.

Am I the only one who thinks the movies really mediocre? Like it wasn't bad by any means, just, meh.

I'm really baffled as to why it's doing so well in general.

His MO should be 5cm/sec.

Normies have shit taste, what else is new?

>Am I the only one

Wow

I bet you'd also be the only one to think Titanic was mediocre.

Just saying I haven't really heard much actual feedback from the movie, only that it's getting massive dosh, even when it's posted on Cred Forums it's less people actually saying what they thought of the movie and more just studio wars.

>uses meme magic to become the no. 1 anime movie in Japan right now
>still not confirmed as a meme

knowyourmeme.com/memes/keit-ai-finds-a-way

I'm a normie and I'm offended by your post.

Let's see your superior taste and name your favorite anime.

>please give me recs!
Re:Zero

how is that in comparison to Godzilla?

you're not the only one but you are the 0.2%

Keit-ai.

Godzilla after 4 weeks: $44,985,368
Kimi no Na wa after 4 weeks $98,000,000

What is it even about ?

Kimi no na wa confirmed for the fast food of movies.
To create something that 10 year olds up to 40 year olds would like, it has to be simplistic as fuck.

...

That's stupid.

So Evangelion was simplistic as fuck too

A girl falls in love with a boy.
Unable to confess she gives the boy a deus ex machina that will make them switch bodies. Never minding the extrange success they start giving each other signals to keep their lives working but they find out they have a crush on each other.
But, the next day, when they wake up they forget the name of each other and stop switching bodies. After some investigation the body finds out the girl lived in the past and her city was destroyed by a fragment of a comet.

Too easy.

maybe that's because only three people on Cred Forums have actually watched it

I liked Garden of Words much more, and I consider that to be Makoto's peak for directing and writing, but Your Name is great.

It feels like a fully realized, ironically more mature take on the emotional themes of 5c.

Seeing a Shinkai movie doing blockbuster numbers is insane though. Not bad for a dude that made his first movie on a mac.

i'm so fucking confused about the character ages. I could have sworn both of them were seniors and the same age while the story was progressing, but then when you find out that both of them are from different timelines wouldn't that mean that the girl is 3 years older? yet it says taki's age is 19-24 while Mitsuha's is 16-21

When are movie budgets usually released to the public?

Are you seriously comparing the success of Eva to Your name?
Eva has old and new otaku for a demographic, Your name is dominating across a wide demographic.

who is in the 1st place?

Spirited Away.

Spirited Away, 25 days to reach 10 billion.

It says 10代 and 40代, faggot. Those are people in their teens and forties.

10,000,000,000 YEN

Anime series adaption fucking when?

Oh ok. I thought Spirited Away was 25th.

>Shinkai cucked Miyazaki's son out of being the next Miyazaki

POTTERY.

Shinkai deserves it though.

I'm going to watch it again tomorrow. This movie is just too gorgeous

Green is 'your name.'.

...

A lot of popular things are mediocre, otherwise they wouldn't appeal to the masses.

Why does he deserve it? I don't think he's a very good filmmaker.

Garden of Words>Your Name>The Place promised in our early days> 5 Centimeters per second>Children who chase lost voices.

How did Taki and Mitsuha see each other on top of the mountain?

>flying higher than Frozen

29 ¥9.70 billion - Mission: Impossible II (2000)

I disagree. While I think he used to be quite emotionally manipulative and juvenile, he has come a long way since 5cm. I love how most of his storytelling is now done in a more subtle way, which is fitting considering how great his movies look.

He also has created his own style (Aside from "Children', where he clearly tried to make a Ghibli movie)

Just one log in on kikebook to find out their timelines are not in line.

No this is the power of targeted corporate advertising.

FINDS A WAY

Kimi no na Wa will be top 3 at least, that much is confirmed. KyoAni, SHAFT, and now Disney getting blown out.

>Bayside Shakedown
Literally what?

This. Having watched the movie I'm genuinely surprised at how much Shinkai has managed to improve himself. Your Name is definitely the best of Shinkai so far

Kyoani and Shaft aren't even in the same league to begin with. You better worry about Ghibli instead

They use Line and that's all. Social media now is too nerdy for normals.

Do people realize how big of a deal this is?

It's like some niche director that has never even done decent box office numbers released a new IP movie in fucking february and got blockbuster numbers and amazing reviews.

This is fucking history making. It's a turning point for anime cinema.

I just hope people don't get the message of "our movies have to look like that to earn movie", because I expect to see a bunch of over inflated budgets and going forward

Bayside Shakedown: The Movie

Your Name isn't subtle at all, have you even watched the movie? There was even a music video that summed up the entire plot of the movie by the end.

>11 ¥13.70 billion - The Last Samurai (2003)

It's cultural appropriation, they said. They hated how Tom Cruise is the lead in The Last Samurai, they said.

top 5 is more likely than top 3.

How come taki didn't recognized mitsuha as the girl in the train who gave her the thread?

Not sure it beat Frozen.

I am also confused about this.

Read the novel. He simply forgot about her as 'a random strange girl' aka nobody. Also, it was a difficult time for him, having just started living without his mother for some reason

It was 3 years ago. He forgot her face.

Distinctive style and philosophy, sure, but not interesting or unique. What separates his films from typical vanilla popcorn romances? I don't think being an auteur equates to being good. Besides, he's hardly the only filmmaker like that. The day a Yamada or Science Saru film banks that much is the day anime is set back on the right track.

Funny, I think 5 cm/s is the best of what I've seen (that, Garden, Lost Voices and all of his short films).

>16 ¥12.70 billion - Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)

The mainstream taste is even more disgusting than Otaku taste.

Now, I know that Kimi no na wa success means absolutely nothing.

I can't believe some people aren't getting that bloody simple straightforward story. Did you watch it with a Greek subtitle or something?

Well it is a good movie, the story might be rushed at some parts but in overall its enjoyable.

I wish they would have made a body switch part a bit longer.

Will this translate into less harem "X IS BEST GIRL" waifushit stories in favor of better written and more mature love stories going forward?

It's done even better in the Western hemisphere for sure, the US above all. What are you even complaining?

Police drama comedy, it's decent.

No, because Your Name is also waifushit. The characters are the blandest part of the movie to be honest.

I am only confused about this part. Is it so wrong to explain something that some people did not understand?
> Did you watch it with a Greek subtitle or something?
I am Greek and no. Still no Greek subs available and I don't think we will ever have them.

I dont get why KnK is being compared to your name. KnK is shit, what the fuck Cred Forums? Am I too dumb to understand it?

>made a Greek joke
>actually a Greek

E-excuse me

>hurr durr was it le 2 deep for u?
explain it then fuck face

More like in "even more strong independent woman" MCs.

Did they change the ending of KnK or is it the same open ended shit as in the manga?

bodyswap is one of my fetishes, how much material is in the film? It's been cluttering the pixiv tag for a few weeks

Torrent when?

The answer is, yes Mitsuha is 3 yeras older than Taki. Delicious onee-chan character thanks to Shinkai. Need any further explanation?

Its ok user.
About the age thing: I understand she is 3 years older than him when they exchange bodies but why the profiles say Taki is 19-24 and Mitsuba 16-21?

BDs when?

>why the profiles say Taki is 19-24 and Mitsuba 16-21

I'm not sure about that since I haven't read that profile thing but it's pretty clear they they wanted to avoid spoilers. And I think you have to try avoid spoling other Cred Forumsnons here too

tell me about the novel

Y-you too.

I just saw it on MAL. Not sure if it's accurate or not, thus the confusion and why I asked (not the user who first asked).

And yes, you are right. I should have spoiled the age thing. My bad.

>And I think you have to try avoid spoling other Cred Forumsnons here too

To be fair, anons have got to be really stupid if they go into a thread like this and expect not to be spoiled.

I've watched the DVD screener two times, I really liked the movie. I look forward to watching it on BD (or in theaters, if they ever manage to get it on theaters over here).

I have a feeling that most of the haters haven't even seen the movie. It's targeted range is teens and young adults, so I guess it really doesn't hit kids and adults that well such as Spirited Away. The plot is also a bit unoriginal. But I think the storytelling makes up for it.

Yeah, I also don't remember the faces of my classmates last semester but how can you forget the face of a girl who suddenly approached you in a boring morning train and gave you a remembrance like you're some kind of special person for her.

I cannot easily forget it if that happened to me. Up until now I still remember the face of the random college girl who slept on my shoulder due to exhaustion when I was in the bus on the way home.

That was also 3 years ago.

>11 ¥13.70 billion - The Last Samurai (2003)
I thought I was the only one who enjoyed that movie.

Really, it depends. To him as we saw, was not any big moment. As the other user said, he thought of her as 'random strange girl' and he was also going through a difficult time so while that moment at that time was something weird to him, having to deal with real stuff like school, getting a job and living with his father preoccupied all his being.

> like you're some kind of special person for her.
I don't think he felt he was special to her. If I was in his position I would think of this person as some weird ass girl that got lost or something similar. I wouldn't take her seriously, but that's me.

> Up until now I still remember the face of the random college girl who slept on my shoulder due to exhaustion when I was in the bus on the way home.
That's why I said it depends. The brain holds memories that are important to us, not always, random stuff we do not need or like in your case moments that were big for us even though nothing out of the world happened.

Taki not remembering that Mitsuha's village was the one that got destroyed by the meteorite was the true memory problem for me.

>Up until now I still remember the face of the random college girl who slept on my shoulder due to exhaustion when I was in the bus on the way home.

It's rather weird that you remember that. I can't even remember the face of that drunken woman who were rubbing her ass against my dick in a train few years ago

Japan does not use FB.

They use Line.

Oh wow, Japan sure do love the Harry Potter movies.

Don't we all?

But if you look a bit closer you can find only the first three movies, descending in that order, and everything beyond that simply no on the chart

>That depends
Perhaps.

>It's rather weird that you remember that.
Dunno but I can barely remember the faces of the bar girls I met last friday night.

I haven't seen the movies after the fourth movie, and the fourth movie was really bad.

I really liked the third movie though. But that's mainly because I looked at Hermione all the time.

Aoi wrote something yesterday regarding this on her website
>At long last, "Your Name" has broken through the 10 billion mark!
>Outside of Ghibli, this is first Japanese animated film to reach that mark. What a remarkable achievement indeed!
>"Numbers are completely unrelated to the actual quality of piece!" that's what I believe, but...
>To have a role that I put my utmost effort into reach so many people's ears, that makes me truly, truly happy!
>Everybody who attended, thank you so much!

Who did she play? Isn't that character in the circle from koe no Katachi?

Sayaka in Your Name, and Yuzuru in KnK.

Holy shit.

Dear KyoAnifags/KnKfags,

Your movie is fine and it's doing fine.

Quit being trollbait and letting yourself get baited by angry Shaftfags false flagging as Shinkaifags to cope with their buttfrustration that Kizu part II isn't doing well.

Sincerely,

Shinkaifags.

Dear Shinkaifag, you should be embarrassed for droning such a terrible director. Even the man himself thinks he doesn't deserve this kind of success.

I watched it last night and I was so fucking sad at the end but holy shit it was good..

heh even if all of you weebs combine your power together, your beloved nip shit is merely a pebble to me.

image related

It's fucking Star Wars. Before its release, Phantom Menace was one of the most hyped movies in history so it makes sense that it made as much money as it did. Notice how none of the other two prequels are listed on their? That's because Japan lost interest after how awful Phantom Menace was.

Give it about half a year.

They were intentionally being vague so as not to spoil the story. Mitsuha is three years older than Taki. Okudera is probably around the same age as Mitsuha, so Taki still gets his wish of having a cute Onee-san for a waifu.

I'm on the verge of jacking my dick off to how BTFO Cred Forums got by this.

In Your Name she was Sayaka, Mitsuha's best friend.

This damage control. Let's not even compare Kizu to Your Name, Just Koe no Katachi will gross more than the three movies combined.

Dear faggot,

See pic related.

>Monogatari
pffft

The only people getting btfo hard here are kyoani shiller and "muh favorit anime ranking" It is to be expected for this movie to climb this high and Cred Forums always make pointless thread to discuss about how much they bother to care abput populat shit. It's no different from normal fags talking about the latest hollywood capeshit

Watching it right now. The intro song has me all fucked up. Gonna finish this and go to work. How many feels should I expect?

So how is Kizu doing in the box office anyway? How much have both movies made so far?

who cares

It's all shit anyway, Twilight grossed a shitton too but you wouldn't boast about that would you?

>watching a Shinkai movie for the first time via a chinkrip

>Japs loved The Last Samurai
WTF?

If there's anyone being BTFO it would be the SHAFT fans. Your Name is a smash hit that'll go down as one of the best-selling anime movie in history, Koe no Katachi is a decent success surpassing most expectations despite small amount of screenings, landing at 2bil projected. Sekai no Katasumi is the kind of movie nips just eat up.

Meanwhile SHAFT won't even touch the 2bil barrier with three movies.

how else you gonna watch it
>inb4 wait a year
how else you gonna discuss it now?

Based Shinkai, he earned that fame and success.

japanesestudies.org.uk/ejcjs/vol16/iss1/kimura.html

Wait for the theatrical release by the end of the year. Funimation hasn't said the exact date yet but it's definitely getting screened in theaters by the end of the year.

Miyazaki isn't even the best Ghibli director. If Shinkai is the next Miyazaki then Yamada is the next Takahata.

What's wrong with The Last Samurai? I liked it.

10 billion yen... isn't that $100M USD? From only the Japan home market? That's impressive.

It won't be a dub right?
If it isn't then I guess I'll wait and watch it in theatres. Never watched an anime at the movies before.

>comparing Yamada to Takahata

The UK showings in November are subbed.

In its defense, the American character at least was learning their culture and didn't overshadow or usurp the rebellion in the story. He was merely along for the ride. Usually it would be the American coming in and showing them how all their ways were wrong and having them all switch how they do shit.

Funimation typically shows both subs AND dubs in theaters. Just call your local theater and ask what time the subbed version is playing and they'll tell you. Seeing anime on the big screen is totally worth it.

Please don't insult Miyazaki like that.

It's funny that this comes in what otherwise might as well be a dead year for Japanese anime.

The Kizu movie was so bad, it was almost embarrasing.

Tom Cruise I guess?

As expected of the god of romance and visual direction. But does anyone know what is this one about? Is it as great as 5 cm per sec?

24th November at 7.30pm is the only showing in town. I'm really surprised they are showing it over here as they only really showing hollywood blockbusters in my small cinema. So happy I get to watch this in theaters though. I think this is the only time it will show so if i miss im literally gonna kill myself.

Why don't you watch it and make up your mind about it yourself?
nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=847876
It's a DVD screener in 480p with watermarks and hardsubs so the video quality is maybe 4/10, but it's much better than a camrip. The audio is rather good, maybe 7/10.

I'm hoping we get a wider release or at least more locations. I really don't feel like travelling into London to go see it.

What a disgusting post.

Fucking this. Tom Cruise assimilated to superior Nippon culture both in the movie and IRL.

If you look it up, Tom Cruise has been to Japan more times than any Hollywood celebrity. He is a total shameless weeaboo.

Here are all the locations so far I think. I thought I would need to travel to Glasgow until I saw they are actually showing it in Inverness.

uk-anime.net/newsitem/Makoto_Shinkai's_Your_Name_to_screen_across_the_UK_from_24th_November.html

Is he a more weeabo than Steven Seagal

ONE OF US

As someone who've always had an eye on Shinkai (although I don't like all of his stuff), this makes me happy. Hopefully he'll continue to be successful.

And I really want to see this movie now...

That website is broken, it isn't showing the newest showings.

It's so far good enough that I'll buy it when it's released here.

Looks like it, it was working when I found it but not for me now either.

Does this hold true?

Cred Forums memes go away
switch flick with movie

Switch Kimi no Na wa and Koe no Katachi

Move Kizu below "flick" to "joint"

>koe no katachi flick

Just because it flopped doesn't mean it isn't pure kino. Plebs are so caught up in the hype train of other movies they miss the best one.

>Hopefully he'll continue to be successful.

As long as he doesn't try to make a ghibli movie again.

Dokyuusei was fantastic but forgotten too soon

Yamada and Katabuchi = good.
Kizu is typical Monogatari fare.
Doukyuusei was horrible.
Your Name is mainstream popcorn romcom.

As far as artistic merit goes, I don't think Doukyuusei or Your Name are relevant.

With how overwhelming a success the Shinkai film has been, you know its had a negative impact on the KnK sales being in the same release window. That's not to say it would have done 10B on its own, but even 20-30% less is significant.

It didn't flop.

KnK would've probably made 3-4 billion if it wasn't for Kimi no na Wa.

It didn't flop but if they had picked a better release date then it would have done a lot better. If you look at mainstream hollywood films they always try to avoid releasing their movies at the same time.

that shit is way too depressed brother

Fuck off.

KnK is benefiting from Shinkai's success though. People are more willing to watch an anime movie these days. Koe no Katachi is outselling the type of drama that Japs would normally eat up.

Shinkai even praised KnK on twitter
lusting after Yamada as usual

>I still need to watch Ponyo

That would make sense if Kimi no na Wa wasn't on theaters still. People are obviously choosing KnK as a second option.

>am I fitting in

He got a little better, at least it's not as shallow as 5cm/s (cancerous maltards will shit themselves reading this). People still only praise it for the backgrounds though.

It wouldn't be a Shinka's film if it didn't have over sentimentality.

Really? I'm not counting something like 'Haruhi is such a bitch' as an actual complaint here. Can you recall any that you've seen? I've been around long enough and can't remember any.

Mostly due to the advent of Yamada as a legitimate talent, I think. People can't help but compare it to better movies (Tamako) and it's lost a lot of critical favour over the last few years.

I still believe Children Who Chase Lost Voices was his best work. It had a emotional soundtrack and it was the closest of Shinkai's works that brought me to a melancholic state. It didn't pull any punches and the ending was bittersweet, fitting, given the theme of the movie.

I literally fell asleep and missed the ending, thought it was so bad.

Interesting idea that someone's newer and possibly better work can make something that's already basically regarded as a masterpiece less revered. I still can't say I agree but I'll definitely keep an eye out for this line of discussion.

People start to see it in a different light. You'll never see someone actually talk using the line of thought I suggested there, but that's my idea of what the trigger was.
>basically regarded as a masterpiece
I don't think cultured-types ever really thought this.

it's clear you have pretty bad taste, but they'll become better with time

Yes you do. It's got beautiful artwork. Pretty acceptable story.

Nice digits.

>People start to see it in a different light.
I can understand this, pretty easily if you consider this happening with western cinema and I don't have an example off the top of my head but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find one.
>I don't think cultured-types ever really thought this.
I think it's hard to measure that but it's easy to argue just how much it got right. It's an incredibly well thought out story that's extremely well placed, has an unbelievable score and had some of the most beautiful animation of all time at it's release. I suppose you could argue that being based on an existing franchise that already requires you to enjoy for it to be as good as it is but that's not really a fair metric to judge something off of. I can speak from experience here, if you watch something like Serenity without having seen firefly it's a pile of horse shit but do it in the right order and everything changes.

>5cm/s
>interesting story

what the fuck am i even reading here. shinkai's movies are only nice to look at. the writing is wangst-tier drama. his characters are usually pretty bland. i'm hoping that the increased box office performance is indicative of improved writing (still haven't seen it; waiting for official release).

Funny how Shinkai's films become prettier and prettier but also their plot becomes shittier and shittier. His early works Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days are his best and still look amazing even compared to films released today. It's almost like those two movies were everything Shinkai ever wanted to do and now he's burnt out and doing things he thinks the general population will enjoy.

I'm kinda glad that they're showing it in my local cinema. I haven't been this excited for a film for a while.

I guess that's my big thing. Never was a fan, really, and all I could ever say was "it's good, for a Haruhi movie."

That's fair enough. I can see how that sort of barrier to entry and stop anything being a truly objective masterpiece.

I just want to watch both movies, Cred Forums. It will never come to my theater. ;_;

I think Disappearance is a good animation, but Tamako Love Story is a better film. It's very cinematic and the storytelling, photography and art direction are on a completely different level.
This is coming from someone who thought Disappearance was brilliant when it came out.

I'll have to watch it. Funnily enough I'm in the exact opposite situation where Tamako Market failed to grab me and I never bothered to finish it but this isn't the first time I've heard good things about the film.

It's near universally agreed upon that Love Story is a massive improvement on Market. You can skip the show, to be honest. The movie is standalone.

Alright, I'll still try and give it another go but if it still doesn't do it for me I'll watch the film anyway. Thanks user(s).

I don't really agree with that. The movie assumes familiarity and relies on Tamako's characterization from the series.

Like when? I think the movie does a great job contextualizing her place in the narrative, very quick. I watched the show first but I've heard of many people who went right for the movie and "got it" just fine. Heck, I've even seen it argued that it's better to watch the series afterwards, not that I necessarily agree with that.

Good for her. She did an excellent job as Sayaka.

Impressive.

I can't believe Nips eat up this Twilight-tier dogshit

So this movie is literally half Polish

The rise of Reksio is upon us!

>KnK still at number 2
>it's still getting loads of money
>""""""""""""""""""flop""""""""""""""""""

As long as we all understand that Shinkai is a hackneyed director.

Number 3. And I think those are predicted numbers, data for today still hasn't come out.

Still, it has 40 less screenings than last week and a predicted 65% decrease. It'll most likely reach a billion but more than that seems almost impossible.

>a predicted 65% decrease
This isn't bad. It's already on track to at least be below the Haruhi and K-On movies.

So what's 2chan saying about this movie?

Those are actual attendance. Less screening because work day.

That whito pigu will love it because it's crap

It's not a prediction.
Those are number for booked tickets.

It findo a ue.

I was also thinking about that. Numbers come out in 40 minutes I think.

No need to search that hard, there's a handful of pantyshots in the movie.

How much did it cost to produce Your Name?

Probably 5-7 million dollars.

Blame Aniplex for being Jews.

user, did you just find the rest of the scans, or the entire magazine?

Wait, fucking really?

Just one thing. Did it had a conclusive ending or an open ass ending like 5cm? I stopped watching Shinkai's movies since that one.

...

Wait there's CGI in the movie? I never saw any of that.

>Kizu

I want PowerPointfags to leave this board.

5cm/s is really the only one that did that, everything else is fine, this included, though it'll leave you in suspense to the last second. Not the best ending for the weak of heart.

Stop posting that because it's already a thing.

That is important because it's what makes or takes away it's success because of all times they wipe their ass with the source material of their adaptations this one really needed to be changed.

...

>it's a "Reddit finds a years old meme and runs it into the ground" episode

That only happened because they knew it wouldn't sell as much. Not all movies need to get screenings nationwide, not all movies would benefit that much from it. Same for worldwide, hence Kimi no Na wa is getting 85 countries and KnK none(?). That's like saying a BD didn't sell more because there weren't more copies available.

Mod, is that you?

>when you shitpost keitai just right

it doesn't have to be interesting and unique though. it feels like most audience these days are now looking for something /different/ than the mainstream to validate their own elitism.

name what you think are 'tyical vanilla popcorn romances' so that we have an idea of what you are thinking

...

I give a fuck about spoilers, just say it. If it got a conclusive end then I'll give it a try.

5cm had me all emotional, all that build up kept me on the edge of my seat, I couldn't even blink.
Then the end happens, I thought it was bait drama before the real end. MC is a hobbo(?) and the magic is gone.
Then it ended with the train part. Just that.
All feels left my body except apathy, I even lost interest, stood up while the shitty song was still playing and left to buy a drink. I remember other people silent or just saying things like "Is that all?", "Is it over?", others were crying, poor guys, they took the bait.

Man, I even asked my boss(cool guy) the free day to watch that. What a waste of time.

I know what Futaba is saying about it.

I suppose it's what you want then.

Here's one of the more obvious instances, but it was mostly used to help with the layouts of backgrounds. The CG World article also features stuff like lighting and effects though (technically CG)

You think the mainstream audience is elitist? If only.

HAHAHA are you really?

Stupid riajuu anime

Lots of new releases this weekend. Let's see how it goes.

5 cm/s was shit

It's not even what actually happened. It's that the pacing was fucking terrible. The end also had no emotional build up to it, unlike Kimi, which is why everyone hates the fucking ending even though it's arguably a better solution plot-wise. The random chick in chapter two was also fucking useless, her character development was meaningless to the plot aside from the fact that it illustrates the MC's continued obsession with his childhood lover.

very conclusive ending, there's just a fuck ton of tense emotion prior. I think that's one of the main reasons the movie did so well - viewers experience the emotion a lot more than simply observing it

Tamako Market was great too, it just had too much Dera filler. Cut him out entirely and the show's way harder to make but also much higher quality overall, as we saw in the movie.

I'd definitely say that watching the show first adds a ton to the experience, partly because of Tamako and Mochizou's relationship but mostly because of Midori's actions concerning them in it.

piss Cred Forums off thread?

It had a great ending. Don't ask for that spoiler in specific because not knowing what kind of end it had was part of what made this movie so good.
