When I first watched this show I came for the Utaha but stayed for the Megumi.

Utaha isn't ruined. Despite the setback, Utaha is better off now after she obtained a renewed sense of resolve. The reason that was made possible is after getting wrecked by Akane and wanting to change after seeing how Tomoya perceived her with the route he made.

Most otaku aren't rich. The less than 1% crowd would buy, but they're a very small minority. And majority of the time it's merchandise that they spend lots of money on. Anime isn't a priority for them. Vast majority of anime adaptations that originated from otaku pandering series or franchisees whose main audience are otaku don't sell well for a reason, even if the source material is popular.

But most anime that do sell are types that don't pander to otaku. There rare are exceptions, but exceptions for reason.
