Personally I think that Alice has problems in her family both being forced to accept the role as commander of the uni forces despite being young due to her 'sisters' mysterious disappearance.

On a sidenote, is Chiyo Shimada a massive Westaboo? I remember watching the movie think how incredibly western looking the Shimada homestead looked, almost like caricature. Also given how she dresses her daughter (I believe in one of the audio dramas she mentions that her mother chooses her wardrobe) in gothic lolita fashion, which in itself is exaggeration of western Vicotrian dress, it seems she really loves them western aesthetics.

Yes, canonically characters like Darjeeling and Kay are 'Japanese', although that doesn't satisfy the possibility that they're Japanese in only nationality (a white American born in Okinawa is technically Japanese) or whether they're pure ethnic Japanese.
