May i remind you diurnal benefic/helios is still a step below WHM while nocturnal benefic/helios is already better than SCH and only getting better. Fairy regen is not as big of a deal as people make it out to be and if the card potency is also getting buffed then SCH's dps can also be easily overshadowed.

I really don't get why yoshi-p can't accept that there will always be a meta no matter what he does to balance the game, its not like any one healer is absurdly overpowered over the others (till 3.4 astrologian i guess). Also the card gimmick can be easily fixed by making rng more predictable, instead of just making the cards pocket raging strikes. Ergo you draw from a deck of cards that refreshes itself rather than just drawing a random given card at all times, makes for way better planning.

I'm glad I leveled both SCH and AST now.

NIN is nowhere near as important as WAR, let alone SCH

Eno allows Blizzard IV/Fire IV and increases damages by 5%. It also weeds out the shitters, The best 3 in 1 ability.

NIN is the only DPS that is mandatory. It is exactly as important as them. TA, the ability to have Slashing up on offtanked targets, strong TP regen, and enmity control are broken as fuck.

Monk even considered? Needs a nin to be even worth it.

The two things AST doesn't have that SCH and WHM have are an instant aoe heal and an equivalent to DT and cure 3. Lightspeed makes up for both of these things to an extent while giving them a niche the other two healers don't have.

The only thing it TRULY lacks is a regen under noct sect which it makes up for having on demand cure 2 and medica.

Eos and selene skills aren't as big of a difference as people make it out to be.

My style of tanking is extremely aggressive which leads to high damage output while I still retain all of my tanking capabilities. This is achieved by min-maxing stats, learning job synergies, and understanding how to mitigate every tankbuster appropriately. This is a playstyle I have grown accustomed to, which basically means that if you suck shit and your playstyle is garbage then my methods will not be effective at all.

I fundamentally agree with you, and think the only thing AST really lacks are deployment tactics- which is only relevant for J storm's 34k aoe which only THREE astrologians have EVER done in noct stance successfully- and lack of cure 3 which is seriously difficult to make up for. However, your breaking it down fundamentally doesn't work.

It's not the greatest right now, but it does just fine. I do 1.1k on mine, but it's really more of a raid tank than a dungeon tank. You won't be a burden if you play well, that's really the main thing that'll separate you from the rest. I've carried so many parties as my PLD.

I mean, I'd love some WAR-tier buffs so I can fuck shit up more, but I get 4k royal authorities so I wont complain too much. Try and grab a nin if you can for dem buffs and practice switching stances so you can maximise output. What I like about PLD is that it really forces you to work for your output, you cant just spam overpower/steel cyclone and get away with it. Every tank should be forced to do GLA/PLD before being allowed to touch the other tanks, it's a great way to learn the fundamentals you need for proper tanking.

And at the end of the day, sword and board is just the most aesthetic way to tank. I love that shit.

PLD is the most popular tank because it's the simplest. If you're planning on getting into raiding, I would recommend going with WAR or DRK just because they're played less (though honestly with the state of raiding as it is right now, you could get a group as a GLD).

If you're just leveling PLD for DF groups, then don't worry about being a burden on your parties. Player skill is much more important. If you're not a retard, your party will love you no matter what job you're playing.

What I always do is HT > ID > DIS >(Botd) CT > Geirskogul > Doomspike spam > Geirskogul before BotD runs out

I haven't quite done the math to see if the extra Geirskogul is worth having to do an ID > DIS > CT combo on a single target, but it also helps stop the TP drain that Doomspike Spam does.

Even with min-maxing and stuff. My PLD has an ilvl of 238 and hits only for 2.2k damage. And that's already with the 30% buff. Also if you use a potion, which is locked behind a 5 min cooldown, you can't really say you hit for 4k if you can only do it thrice in 5 minutes.

Just min max stats; if you cant stack crit, do det, remove all parry. I use as many grade V crit/det materia as I can (I craft so gil is no object really). Make a nin buddy, and practice stance dancing. PLD aoe isn't the best, but single target needn't be shit. Practice on SSS if need be.

Dont get me wrong PLD still needs to be reworked some. But there's no reason it should be as shit as Cred Forums would suggest. No WAR/DRK/PLD can keep aggro from me if i want it. Lucky for them, I'd rather sword oath/DPS and provide cover based mitigation

I did it fairly casually, so a little while. I knew I didn't need the 240 to clear content so it was more a glamour thing (plus a little usefulness). I just casually did PotD and Exs each day for a few weeks, which FCmates generally needed anyway and I like trying new stuff in dungeons to try and improve my DPS. So yeah, I guess somewhere around a month as I did it? Totally doable in far less time if you grind it, but I wasn't fussed. Thegns is okay but doesnt look as nice as Almace anyway, and the stats were still good pre-selection stage.

I expect they'll nerf it next patch as per desu. Hold off if you can.

Honestly for any tank I'd say the same. Max crit, then det, str Vs on guaranteed accessory slots and crit/det on the rest. CRIT is your priority, det just makes life easier for healers. nothing else is worthwhile. If you have any parry above the minimum GET RID OF IT. Parry fucking sucks. I dont give a shit what any Mr Pro tank says, Parry is fucking garbage. DRK has skills that proc for parry if they need it, pointless to stack for them too,

You should be fine as long as you get company seals. You can also look for Amber which you find in treasure chests doing levequests. And thanks to dailies, you get poetics real fast which you also can trade in for items you need for the relic.
