PC Gayman thread

Post rigs, rate the rig above you. Bonus game: guess how much that rig cost. I'll start.

Also, general PC gaming discussion I guess.

Nothing like a successful thread, eh bud?

top kek!

Can't say I didn't try

k

>Intel Processor @ 2.70GHz

y-you didn't rate

I rate your rig: nice, I am jelly. Speccy won't even fucking recognize my i5. Wish I could afford a 1070, but I only had a budget of about a grand.

>no optical drive
When will this meme end?

Yeah, noticed it after I uploaded. It's an Intel Core i5-6400 2.7GHz Quad-Core

Think I'm around $1300 into it

...

straight upgrade from mine/10
i payed ~1200 euros including my screen

Not bad. When I first built it I had a 760 before I sold it for the 970

I'd recommend getting an ssd

Thanks but I'm cool, my loading times are tiny already so I see no need to go even faster. Same goes for the other PC parts like the GPU, no games have been released yet that it can't handle and I want to play.

ok, got it senpai

...

Not just for games, bur for your overall system responsiveness and boot/shutdown times

Really, once you go ssd you'll never go back, especially for how cheap they are today

5.5/10

Uh. Call a doctor bro.

Pretty overkill for only 1080p

pcpartpicker.com/list/7648QV
Is this good for 1440p?

That's a great build actually. It will destroy 1440p

Built this up over time since 2012. I looked up invoices for every part, and it totals to about £950. Add another ~£100 for KB/M.

A'lotta money for an unhired neet.

>6700K
>paired with a 970
why?

The 970 ain't no slouch, but it won't power that 4K monitor
Still great for 1080p though

I understand the hype around SSD's but let me explain why they provide no notable benefit for me:
>games
unless one has MANY mods on a bethesda game or something, the difference in loading times are literally seconds. I have both the patience and the time to wait a few seconds.

>operating system
In my opinion, this is the most legit reason for having an SSD, however simply turning my computer on when I wake up and go to wash my teeth, I have avoided the already fast boot delay altogether. Shutting the computer off faster has no perceivable benefit to me.

>it feels better
Not enough for me to spend even 5 euros, I don't like to spend money without a good enough reason.

...

All these people with i7 K model cpus while not affording a flagship GPU...

i7 K model will give you a shitty 10% performance increase IF that for potentially 100 or more dollars, depending on what cooling you go with.

i7 does have a minor benefit of being slightly more bug free in certain games but a 600mhz OC is not worth the money if you can't afford the best GPU that's out right now. Like even put the money toward a better monitor, particularly 1440p IPS or 1080p@144hz.

Unless you make money from streaming or video editing or photoshop forget it for gaming, you got memed hard.

I bet you even over spend/over power on your PSU while skimping on GPU power.

t. poorfag who has an AMD processor

>Unless you make money from streaming or video editing or photoshop forget it for gaming, you got memed hard.

I make money from 3D rendering.

>I bet you even over spend/over power on your PSU while skimping on GPU power.

You NEVER EVER skimp on the PSU you retard, that's a rule.

I was so pissed off with the 970 that I kept it and refuse to change until the 1100 series. I might get a 1080ti but not if it's gonna cost £800+

Look at all these SHITTY fucking computers in this thread

How does it feel knowing you'll never have my godly computer and internet? Filthy casuals need to GET.ON.MY.LEVEL!

You're probably right, but spending big bucks on a power supply is never a mistake

This is when I have a web browser open.

Buying a 1080 soon. After that two 1440p monitors @ 144hz.

Hopefully this card will justify buying a Vive ;_;

I hope you have a fire extinguisher handy

Have you tried reapplying your thermal paste?

rip in peace

Its a laptop unfortunately, I sent it in and they replaced all the offending parts, it turns out running at this temp is normal for it. I have a fan pad running when ever I play games though.

>t. poorfag who has an AMD processor

First of all I'm not knocking intel and I can afford to have my 1080 and an i7 6700k.

>I make money from 3D rendering.

Good you get away with it then.

>You NEVER EVER skimp on the PSU you retard, that's a rule.

Did I say to skimp? There's no point powering for OC then spending money on OC compnents (including mobo) when $200 some guys could afford the next tier GPU or even buy a decent monitor. Especially on new hardware you can get away with buying the best 500-600W PSU in your budget.

I make money selling PC hardware and building them man and I would never waste money on SLI again since it caused more trouble than it ever fixed but I wouldn't stop someone from buying it unless they can't max out everything else.

>it turns out running at this temp is normal for it.
Put some money aside every week and build yourself a rig friend.

>After that two 1440p monitors @ 144hz.

Try one because they will be new tech and also maybe wait for HDR.

gonna be a good 2 years before that happens unfortunately

t. underage

...

>Try one because they will be new tech
they've been out for a few years though?

Any issues with the new drivers?

I'm currently in Norway then will be in England around christmas then Wales in the new year. A tower pc doesn't real lend itself to such situations.

Oh sorry im thinking with IPS

Never had. Just make sure to always install them completely new so that older versions don't interfere.

I participate in the battlestation threads. So I would like to have some aesthetic matching monitors.

The ones I had in mind:

amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B0149QBOF0/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1474487153&sr=1-2&keywords=Dell 1440p monitor

Or maybe even this one

amazon.com/dp/B014X4U076/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3CB0V7WSZCWHY&coliid=I17K7MO5A3G6Y0&psc=1

are there manufacturers besides acer and asus that are making cutting edge monitors? are there off brand korean ones? i've been waiting for a 144 1440p ips with gsync for around 800 that doesn't have any glaring issues with bleed or dead pixels. do you know any i could look into?

I'm , should I sell my 980 Ti and get a 1070, or keep the card I have?

replied to myself rather than you.

>selling a 980ti for a 1070

yes

There would be little performance gain going from a 980ti to a 1070. Wouldn't be worth it

But upgrade your fucking cpu holy fucking shit that bottleneck
>using a shitty AMD A8 apu with a flagship Nvidia card
Jesus fuck I'm triggered

Why so much moving around? Uni?

Nice
Nice
Here's mine I also plan to put a 1060 3gb in it soon enough

Yeah got a juicy Erasmus placement in Norway but I normally study in Aberystwyth but am from Yorkshire.

>have paid so little attention to amd since the end of phenom ii after bulldozer was a disaster
>have no idea what model of amd is good or bad and can't shit on people properly who have amd processors because of this

Nope I have the same problem and if there were any they would sell out instantly since it is basically the highest tier monitor every smart PC builder wants.

pic related is what the insides look like. It was a shitty prebuilt so I didn't have much room to work with.
FM2 sockets are APUs

>all that spaghetti
>non painted inside

it looks like a pc from the 90s but then again i havn't looked inside a prebuilt for about 10 years. at least it's dusted i guess.

Pls rate my toaster and tell me if a gtx 1060 would be a good idea

Go for a 1070 instead if you can afford it.

Enjoy your wasted money on a gpu you can't even fully utilize

That's why I'm getting a new build soon.

r8

I have a 200 dollar limit technically 250 but i have to get a new psu

>16 GB ram
>not dual channel

>clearly says dual channel

I have speccy but ive never figured out how to save just the image i want.

Are you stupid?

Snipping tool in Windows

apparently yes

>being this autistic

What's it like to be computer illiterate?

Here is mine. Bought it about 2 years ago.

have two new monitors arriving on Saturday. (Iiyama 24 in ones I forget which).

Couldn't afford the 970 as well as the whole tower when I got it. Its in a NXTZ case with a retarded amount of space so its pretty cold in there even when running stuff.

is a 16gig ram upgrade worth it or should I worry about a new Graphics card instead? If so what is worth getting baring in mind I cant afford the 1080s.

Is it time to clean the fans yet?

I don't know if I can be bothered.

Be aware, this is under heavy load. PCSX2 running unlocked at 150 fps (B-spec driving in GT4 at about 10x actual speed)

I'm playing Blood Money in the meanwhile.
Somehow, I can consistently use 8 gigs of ram just browsing the internet.

How do I do it?

I swear I attached the image. Maybe it's too large?

ty. never even heard of snipping tool. Handy to know.

I'm picking parts for my new desktop, so I looked at hard drive failure rates here: backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-stats-q1-2016/

according to this, the most reliable 3tb hard drive is the HDS5C3030ALA630 model

but: on the amazon page for it, a review claims the part isn't actually that model. Also, newegg has TWO separate list stings for that hard drive, and the only one of the two listings that has reviews has a fuck ton of bad reviews saying the drive failed them

amazon.com/Hitachi-Deskstar-HDS5C3030ALA630-Internal-DESKSTAR/dp/B00684XVFS
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6ZP4SX1801
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA9DE3SA8335

The hell is going on?

You should routinely dust out your computer user.

Dust it out and apply fresh thermal goo

I'd stay away from any 3tb drive since they all seem to have problems

2tb to 4tb are the ones to look at

I was thinking of upgrading my GPU to a 1060, but all this talk of how the 10xx line is already obsolete makes me hesitate.

I don't have a problem with waiting; a GPU upgrade isn't necessary since I don't play any graphically demanding games anyway.

But its all messy in there

Can I use a vacuum? On lowest.
And do I really have to go buy thermal paste?

I just wanna play video games while striving to be as apathetic as I possibly can.
However, that does require my PC to not break...

How dangerous is dust?

Well, again, going by the failure rates on that site, that model seems to have pretty good reiability, it's just I don't know why the newegg reviews are inconsistent with that

Like, all the 2tb drives on that list have higher failure rates listed then that 3tb drive

>but all this talk of how the 10xx line is already obsolete makes me hesitate
It literally just came out on the newest process node. Don't listen to retards user

If you keep waiting, you'll never be satisfied. But only upgrade if you need to. No sense in wasting money

wouldn't use a vacuum. Buy one of those air dusters/spray can things and damp cloth your vents periodically.

Occasioanlly spray out your fans too.

Keep in mind that Backblaze's methods have come under scrutiny and they use hard drives in a hot server/enterprise scenario, not a typical desktop environment

That's what i keep hearing. I have the 760 and I wanted to get a 980 now they are cheaper. but then people say get a 1080 instead or wait till a 1090 (or whatever) comes out and buy a cheaper 1080.

Way I see it is Ill just go buy whatever costs £400 as thats my approx budget,

Damp cloth my vents?

I get the part about canned air, however retarded an expense it will be to buy canned air, however, I can see that through.

But why the fuck would I want to use a damp cloth? Won't it leave grit, calcium and all sorts of unwanted stuff on the surface of the fan?

Shouldn't I be exclusively blowing out the dust using canned air?

Of course, I could go all the way and buy a compressor. Then I'd only have to pay like 30 times that of a can of air, but I'll get infinite cans.

Any recommendations?

If you're looking at a 980, a 1060 performs better with more vram for the same price or less

I meant just use a damp cloth to clean the dust on the vents outside your case. All the shit blocking the airflows in.

Dont use it inside.

So is there a better place for failure rates then?

>Only upgrade if you need to.

Sensible advice; the 750Ti runs everything I need it to just fine, so I suppose I should wait. Part of the reason I wanted to upgrade was to send my old card to a friend who's too poor to afford a modern GPU; it would let us play games together and I'd be tackling two birds with one stone.

Yeah, thanks. The 1070 would technically only be a new generation version of a small jump up from what I have. Sure its better. but its not going to be worth the cost for what I see is a relatively minimal upgrade. Some of the 980 ti are around the £450, or from what I see browsing overclockers I could get a 1070 of one of the various types. Fuck knows what all the types are. (founders edition and all that jazz)

>Any recommendations?

kill yourself for not being able to figure out how to clean your own fucking pc after listing the available options m8. it's the best advice i can give.

Maybe, I'm not sure though. Everyone likes to use Backblaze since they freely publish their data, but their uses case is pretty unique and not a direct representation of what the average user would encounter. I read their findings with a pretty big grain of salt

Well, shopuld I still assume HGST is the best brand to go with?

>not buying a 6950X

pleb

They seem to be pretty good overall. I would feel comfortable with them.

As always, back up your data no matter what

Cred Forums has too long been infested with PC gamer kiddies. It's time to purge them once and for all.

Any of the following regularly occurring threads on Cred Forums is either directly or indirectly about PCuckoldry or autism:

* Intel vs. AMD threads
* GPU threads
* Various types of rig/battlestation/guts/Speccy threads ("What parts should I buy, /v?" "Is this part good, Cred Forums?" "Check out my specs, Cred Forums.")
* All PC discussion and support threads (obviously)(which monitor to use, how to rice, which anime child porn to use)

These threads only serve to discuss products for doing pointless stuff. They have nothing to do with programming, networking, security, privacy, freedom, design, usability, or anything else Cred Forums related.

These threads and the people who post within them belong in either or as they are the appropriate boards in which to discuss their hobby, along with "distro war" and "Nvidia vs. AMD" threads. PCcucks don't care about video games in general.

All they care about is the rice, not the method. Pony pictures is and the method is .

Products are GPU shitstorms, speccy threads, guts threads, casing threads etc.

A typical pccuck's perception of judging a game is nothing because pcuck has no games or skill.

None of the ricer pcuckolds are interested in the method or process of making games. Game is not

Got any recommendations on suicide options?
Any advice?

Who hot as fuck hard drives here?

Pretty happy with my PC.

Might upgrade my ram doubt it will change much though.

R8 my rig. What vidya can I play with it?

Whatever

i have 3mbps internet that i only ever get 2.5mbps on so this is a fucking waste for multiplayer games desu

Minesweeper/10

At least you have an optical drive

Same senpai but I don't have problems unless I'm hosting

Just recently managed to upgrade to the right one. It runs the games I'm interested in quite well, and I got it dirt cheap so I'm quite happy with it.

>optical drive
>shiggydiggy
You shame your ancestors.

built this last year. Got a second 1080p monitor then upgraded to an SSD a little while later. Totally fucking worth it

$800

that was 800 dollars brand new? I don't believe that

Are you guessing how much cost or are you saying that's how much yours cost?

yes

Not him, but is mine and it cost me 1700 dollars all said and done

what the fuck

how

Cyber Monday?

cripes

1700 dollars Fall 2015 I have to add

no im shitting you all, it was $1600 because i sold my old 980 ti and used that to buy the 1080

i just wish i had more money to use i would make it even better

6/10

Theres nothing really better than what you have without going SLI or getting one of those 6 core i7's or doing a full water loop or buying more SSD's and doing RAID5

Posting battlestation too

lol nigga your pc is worse than mine gtfo here.

...

Not great, but I got it mailed to me by a buddy from florida for $100

Nice, I like that room

Spent about $2500 on it (excluding peripherals). But that's including my nation's crazy high electronic tax.

Not really

Here's my Cred Forums machine.

I tried overclocking months ago but it seemed to make it bluescreen but maybe it was a driver issue that I've since fixed.

>Optical drive
>Good
>When I haven't used it since I bought the pc

Cool that you personally haven't had a use for it

le optical media is dead meme is false though, depending on how you're setting up a new rig, for example, you may be unable to use anything but an OS disc

Shit like this is why I need to move out of my parents house

Having a room dedicated to gaming and stuff is just too good.

Where do you live?

>But that's including my nation's crazy high electronic tax.
Let me guess. Australia.

>$100
he did you a fucking solid, man

>calls optical being dead a meme
>his example is possibly needing a disk to install an os in the current year

i mean you're right but you're also a fag

I occasionally watch DVDS on minbe. or rip CDs for my wife so she can stick them on itunes or whatever,

My PC didnt come with one. I had to add it separately later.

But I don't actually mind since I'm a sic motherfucker and have gotten that back a hundred times over thanks to cheap healthcare.

Hi Jared

possibly

I got a i7 because I primarily use my PC for Adobe shit.

>the best looking PC games are exclusively console ports
>the best looking games are exclusively console games
>tfw spent 700 bucks on a glorified Xbox without FFXV or KH3

...

Yuh. Need to start upgrading though.

>when you have console tier tastes and fall for the "pc is best because graphics" meme

sorry user. you should have thought for yourself instead of doing what someone else told you to.

I fucking knew it.
I'm a fellow Sven, y'see.

>and have gotten that back a hundred times over thanks to cheap healthcare
Too bad it sucks, tho.

If not for graphics, what advantage does a PC have over consoles?

Wrongo bud. Name starts with an M.

i'm not a fish and i don't like being treated like one user.

damn

Men hallå!

I know that everyone hates on our healthcare, and it's certainly justified.
But without it I would be dead 10 times over, so I don't really mind that much.

Just report and move on

Heroes 3.
Civ 4

Generally, turn by turn games only. Maybe a few RTS games.

Why do people have their CPU's integrated graphics running?

there are ways to dynamically switch between between the two. virtu mvp i think was one software that did it. like you use integrated for desktop and power down the gpu except for passthru i think
