Computah

So I´m about to buy the new Nvidia 1080 card. MSI 1080 gaming X, specifically

I´m wondering if my CPU, Power Supply, RAM and Motherbord can handle the beasty card and/or utilize it's fulll strenght (wouldn't want my 1080 to underperform now would I)

Here are my current specs;

PSU:

XFX ProSeries XXX Edition 750W PSU
ATX 12V V2.2, 80 Plus Bronze, Modular, 4x 6+2pin PCIe, 16x SATA, 14x Molex,

GPU: MSI gtx 780

CPU: I5 4690 (NOT K)

Motherboard:

MSI B85M-E45, Socket-1150
Motherboard, m-ATX, B85, DDR3, 1xPCIe-x16, USB 3.0, VGA, DVI, HDMI, Haswell

RAM:

Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 16GB KIT
16GB kit (8GBx2), Sport,1600MHz, 1.5V, CL9-9-9-24

Cheers

>1080
Why? Wit till 1080Ti and get Titan X performance instead.

and yes, you have enough power to handle it.
OP, are you gaming at 144Hz 1080p?

Don't want to wait. When they release Ti I´ll buy that too

Now answer my question if you can, would appreciate it!

Thanks!

Yes that's right

I already did. Power consumption of 1080 isn't worse than the 780.

>CPU: I5 4690 (NOT K)
nice bottleneck

I´m rather bad at hardware, what difference would it make if I apart from upgrading to 1080 also bought i7 skylake and ddr4 ram?

>bottleneck
at 144hz 1080p definitely.
At 1440p? not really.

Then again, OP is playing 144Hz 1080p, so yeah. Nice bottleneck.

I read on toms hardware that the i5 4690 does not bottleneck the 1080 at all?

you're fine

>bottleneck

>that CPU

bruh just get an i5 6600K

It does. The PCI Express lane won't be saturated, but if you want to play 144Hz 1080p constantly across the board, you'd better look to Skylake. You don't have that issue with 4K or 1440p however, as the GPU is doing enough work for the CPU to not be the bottleneck.

I'm using the i7 version of your CPU and it isn't causing a bottleneck

>what difference would it make
none at all

>buying 1080 for 1080p gaming
its just called the 1080 because its the 10 series of cards it doesnt mean its FOR 1080p

Did you miss the 144hz part?

Oh I know

nope
a 1070 would handle 1080p @ 60 Hz just fine

The fucking 1070 can do that at 1080p. People buy the 1080 for 1440p at max settings. Or to waste money and play at 1080p.

youtube.com/watch?v=38KSD9o-LOs
Hardly. The FPS loss at 1080p is very pronounced, which isn't exhibited at 1440p. I really like how you are attempting to mislead OP by spreading impartial information over how that his older platform is not a bottleneck at his intended 1080p resolution.

>1080
>when a 1070 gives the same perf cheaper
>when HBM is going to be on every top end chip by q2 2017
sure, get ass fucked by planned obsolescence

>a 1070 would handle 1080p @ 60 Hz just fine
But he's talking about 144 Hz.

imo neither card is worth the money, but the GTX 1080 is kinda needed if you want to have 144fps at high settings, even if it's just 1080p.

>Same perf
try deus ex in 1080p with all details maxed. not true.

You're retarded, 144 fps is extremely hard to achieve in any remotely graphically demanding game, he will need all the power he can get.

>buying a motherboard with an already outdated socket
You won't be able to use DDR4 ram, which can make a big difference, and will need to buy a new motherboard when you want to upgrade the CPU. iirc Cannonlake (the generation of Intel processors after Kabylake) will use LGA1151, so if you buy a more current motherboard you'll be able to upgrade to a new CPU at least two generations from now.

I mistyped
I meant 144 Hz

I bet he thinks that it's ok to dial down on AA to 2x.

You didn't mistype.

Or you are wrong.

>144hz meme
just get a nice 120hz panel with better colors'n'shit

I got above 144 fps in R6 Siege with my 1070 at 1080p. 1070 is more than enough for 1080p of any current or future game.

Maxed? And how about a game that doesn't look like total shit?

This

>Look mom, I am moving the goalposts again!

Reaching 144 fps for 144hz is to get an edge in competitive shooters. R6 Siege is the best looking competitive shooter right now with a large player base.

we should ask OP if he wants to play that game, CS:GO or something else.
OP, answer me. What fucking game?

No one said anything about competitive games. Looks to me like you're moving the goalposts, mongoloid.
Also you didn't answer if it's maxed or not.

unless you're running atleast 1440p, the gtx 1080 would be total overkill assuming you only have a 1080p monitor at 60hz

also your setup looks fine, minimal bottleneck if you happen to throw a 1080 in there.

get a gtx 1070 and a 1440p monitor imo

>Mom I need 144FPS for my Hearthstone and World of Warcraft!

>biocuck infinite

LEL

Guys, dumb question here but why 144hz and not like 120 or 160?

So much for "more than enough for 144hz". It's just a retard trying to justify his 1070 purchase.

>been playing wow at 1440p max settings at 150 fps on my 144hz ips monitor

its fucking awesome

for awhile it was 120hz as a natural double of the common 60hz AC input

then someone realized that the electrical signal performed more efficiently at 144hz on both AC and DC for LCD panels for whatever reason.

I'm fine with my 1070 sitting at 80-120FPS at 1440p for every game I own. I turn off the useless options that drop FPS for no reason and I enjoy myself. Are you upset that you can't save some money for a new graphics card?

WoW

Warhammer Total War (can play on high with 40-80 fps ultra units on my current setup)

BF1

CS:go

Overwatch

Ohh,ok. Thanks user.

If you have to turn off settings then how is it more than enough? kek

>this is the average PC gaymur nowadays
Pretty sad.

Op here again

To clarify; I´m running on 1920x1080p @ 144Hz

I want to max out all new-gen games (ultra, not more than 100% resolution when u have that slider tho)

So 1070? Bottleneck there too?

just get the gtx 1060.
Cheaper but not as good as the 1080, but you'll be able to play most games on 1080p 60fps

>buying a rushed card with stripped pcb

Nope.
Either go 480 or 1070 or dont bother.

>max out all new-gen games at 144fps with a 1070
lmaoing @ your life, not even SLI 1080s are enough

Doesn't have to be 144fps. Doesn't it get smoother if you are above 60fps with a 144Hz monitor even if you don't actually reach 144fps?

GTX 1080 is faulty mine died today after 2 months of usage.

Really sad about it, If I were you I would consider my discussion.

You've RMA'd it right? is it EVGA or some other maker?

Sure. If all you care about is just going above 60 at 1080p, get a 1070.

RMA?

Return material authorization, as in sending it back to manufacturer to get a replacement.

How often do new GPUs come around?
I checked Nvidia and MSRP is like $700 for 1080.

They're also giving out a free copy of Gears of War 4.
Do they shill a game before they have a new one coming out to get rid of stock?
Also is a new GPU comes out does MRSP change from the previous top of the line or does it stay static?

Sorry for the questions, Cred Forumsirgin PC player.

About every 18 months. Nvidia's next architecture, Volta, comes out in early 2018.

>MSI B85M-E45

MSRP only drops when the new card comes around. The price drop is to allow for liquidation. It could be only 6 months that a new card hits. Normally game promo isn't meant for stock clearance. It's there to boost sales, but this sort of promo doesn't apply to cards that are getting liquidated.
