literally anything from this game
...
Haven't played this game but this track is really damn good.
never played it either, but this track is amazing, thanks for sharing
Was not expecting this.
>be bipolar as fuck
>having a low period
>play hotline miami 2
>get to title screen
>hear this
>sob uncontrollably
anyways, contributing...
youtube.com
HM2 def has some gems
Simple as can be
richter did nothing wrong
youtube.com
>You will never have as much fun as when Halo was in its prime.
Halo 2 was the first game I played online, what a great experience. After I put a trillion hours into Halo 3 online, I sold my 360 and got a PS3 because the only good games on Xbox were Halo. Luckily, they never made another great Halo game for me to miss out on.
>halo 3
Good times man, good times.
the title screen background makes for an amazing wallpaper
youtube.com
youtube.com
I really have a hard time trying to remember games soundtracks, I can only remember the ones where there is any kinda vocals
Fuck forgot my contribution
youtube.com
2bh I'm mainly excited for Yooka Laylee cause of David Wise's music
t-thats not melancholic
...
it kind of is
This game and it's OST don't get nearly enough love.
It's the most subdued song I could think of. Besides, it moves me. I just close my eyes and drift away when I listen to that song.
Reminds me a lot of the Pixeljunk Monsters soundtrack.
youtube.com
Not as sad, but similar in sound.
am I the only one who enjoyed the last 3, I replayed all of them atleast 5 times no joke
there's two reasons to greentext this but I'm gonna post it anyway because it always makes my heart ache
>not Skellige theme
Xenoblade in general was full of melancholic, this might be my favourite melancholic track from any video game in general desu, especially given the context in which it plays
youtube.com
youtube.com
AC1 and 2 had god-tier atmosphere from the music alone. Jesper Kyd pls come back.
god i wish this game wasnt so fucking short
also this
sorry to end the thread so early

The saddest thing is that the reboot is dead.
Damn son, I haven't played Tropical Freeze yet but that's a sweet remix.
I played Shenmue for the first time in 2010 and I'm already feeling nostalgic by this.
youtube.com
Even if the districts you could explore were few and tiny, they had much more detail than most open world games these days. I hope Shenmue 3 doesn't go full sandbox.
The best.
>when you walk out into Valak mountain for the first time and this plays
youtube.com
>when you arrive on the fallen arm and this plays
youtube.com
>it' a melia cutscene and this plays
youtube.com
>boot up the game for the first time and this plays
youtube.com
i swear i could get lost in the soundtrack for hours
tropical freeze is like the only reason i have a wiiu, i like it that much. best 2d platformer in a long ass time
Does this count?
youtube.com
youtube.com
so chill
beginning reminds me of a terraria song
US soundtrack>Jap/EU soundtrack
youtube.com
makes me feel special for a moment.
youtube.com
I'm very fond of this one.
I'd say JP has the better good future tracks and US has the better bad future tracks, with present being a mixed bag of both.
youtube.com
[TRIGGER WARNING]
This one is so touching.
>"I look at this inert shape and I wonder who you're going to be. Will you hold the same values as we do? Will you love us for having created you? Will you resent us for having put you into an uncertain and dangerous world? Looking back at our history – our achievements, our crimes – what will you make of us? Will the world you create be like ours, or so different that we can't even imagine it? Either way, I hope that you’ll find this little blue planet to be as beautiful as we did. I hope you’ll take care of it a lot better than we did. And… I hope one day you’ll look up and reach for the stars.
youtube.com
Not as somber as the rest, but I still like it
>Undertale
2010? I only played it last year and this is hitting me.
I feel like 2 is a "better" game but I love and respect 1 more because it just feels so different from anything else I've ever played or likely ever will play.
shadow was a pretty good character in sonic adventure 2. he genuinely felt like an equal to sonic, and in the last scenes they seem to have a deep sense of respect for each other
to bad the sequels shit all over him
probably one of my most memorable pieces of video game music of all time. It's a little cringeworthy now but I thought kingdom hearts was the coolest fucking shit when I was 13. I'll never forget sitting up late at night and getting so into Roxas's story and everything
god damn the kingdom hearts games are great for what they are
>Undertale
Shitposting aside, yeah this is pretty melancholy and my favorite track from the soundtrack.
>tfw listening to all the songs without posting any
>melancholy thread
>no gondola
youtube.com
This makes me cry everytime
...
I love Gondola
...
youtube.com
Another one from the best OST of all time
I'm right there with you man.
Kingdom Hearts was one of my first games actually.
Got lost in it immediately, I remember having such difficulty beating Sephiroth on Beginning, now I'm destroying him on my Crit Level 1.
Feels Nostalgic man
:(
a gem right here
youtube.com
WRONGGG SONG
both are good desu
youtube.com
i play this one more doe
NIGGAS, please go play it. It is a tremendous game.
Melancholy is the highest-tiered emotion
Two games that are very under apprecieated imo.
youtube.com
youtube.com
And a more upbeat song
youtube.com
"bittersweet" is pretty great
>just passed through the hell level
>hear this
>you just know that this is the final level of the game
Always had a sad feel to it, mostly because it is the game's goodbye/heaven song.
too bad the game is fucking garbage these days
Melancholy is the final emotion. When you realize the truth to the universe, all that's left is empty sadness.
>This fucking game
the universe has no truth
...
Precisely
I think the melancholic part of it is almost entirely related to the nostalgia factor but this hits me every time I listen to it and it hits me hard.
You guys have some fine taste on emotions. nostalgia and awe are pretty good too, though Melancholy really is the highest you can get.
Rain was pretty good, I played it with my sister.
My sister doesn't play many games, but she really got hooked up by Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and Rain. We started playing together but she couldn't wait for the next weekend for me to return home and play some more. When I got home she had already finished them all.
Damn kids... they have way too much free time.
Talos Principle is up on the pedestal of greatest game of all time. The amount of love the devs put into this game was so vast that they even made me hope a bit more in this barren world.
Came looking for Chrono Cross but expected this one:
youtube.com
Who cares
That image reminds me
youtube.com
youtube.com
You can thank me later OP
Hhhhnnnggg!
I don't cry, ever, because I'm broken inside. Being a broken husk, it eats at my soul every day.I knew of Rain ahead of time, and played it one night after everyone went to bed, straight 2/3 hours, however long it is, and some bourbon to grease the mind.I finished Rain that night and cried like a devastated mother. For 30 mins straight. That was 3 years ago, and I've never cried since. And I will never cry again. But Rain made me cry.Sorry for the blog post.
Who has the highest powerlevel? Pepe or Wojak?
Here ya go
lute time mother fucker
Pepe has the highest powerlevel, but this is moot question, because Wojack learned early on that a powerlevel is meaningless, and so he realized it was all pointless in the end.
sauce me chummer
I see your Satorl Marsh (Night) and I raise you Sylvalum (night)
...
You ain't no cool papa. You're just an anus.
I thought HM2 was disappointing but holy shit did the OST deliver. So much better than HM1's imo
...
I think it was just a one hit wonder, comrade.
Sorry.
fuck
Why so harsh, isn't this a nostalgic game songs thread?
I liked the songs he posted and he mentioned that Rain was one of the under appreciated games but that's not actually true, because we enjoyed it at home. Also, it's very nostalgic to me because it reminds me of home.
yeah, vallhalla had some good songs. Great comfy meme game.
Now this one hits me pretty hard:
youtu.be
You are small time
Nostalgia'd without having played the game
I'll be humming Birth of the people until i die
>All those memories of playing DKC for the first time came flooding back
I don't know any other game that have a ost so magical as Chrono Cross.
I think this is one of those songs that I'm going to listen to in 10 years and reminiscent of how goddamn good it was back then.
Just swimming around that place was so serene.
>Birth of the People
So that's what I was humming the other day. I couldn't remember what game it was from.
>tfw listening to english audio logs and they are so much worse than italian ones
Didn't expect that. This one in particular youtu.be
10/10 game
...
youtube.com
A little melancholic, a little hopeful.
Still no idea what the lyrics are.
>Song of the Ancients
I regularly put this on when I'm drunk, alone and sad.
I listen almost exclusively to Legend of Mana music when going to sleep.
better quality version
youtube.com
is this kiki?
Criminally underrated.
youtube.com
>look up clip from scooby doo
>gang wonders how Cena got there
>"Daphne texted me"
SLUT
It's pretty good. It doesn't do action as well as Clover/Platinum's other games, and doesn't do the Zelda formula as well as, well, Zelda. But there's something about it that just really resonates with me. It's quite an experience, I'd encourage you guys to give it a shot.
>not posting this
youtube.com
Whole world's on the line, better step up fuzzball
youtu.be
>mfw trying to find that last tribal in the mines
I miss this game so fucking much. Played it co-op with a friend. Soundtrack is kind of dramatic, but goddamn so good.
Was thinking about this song today
it's even got melancholy in the name
youtu.be
youtube.com
I see this thread just as I'm listening to this.
Siege of Madrigal, which Bungie - after being turned into Halo slaves by Microsoft and saving the XBox- never forget:
Original:
youtube.com
and in Halo:
>Received this game for Christmas
>Best friend came over and played almost every day
>Trying to 100% it together
>He switched schools and we lost contact
>Original save file still there, unfinished
I can't do it without you, man. Just come back so we can finish it.
Not that melancholy imo.
youtube.com
Leaves me feeling depressed and alone.
Honestly tearing up right now, fuck this song.
...
Snowpeak was such a great, atmospheric environment. Wish it lasted longer.
but this is a melancholy thread, you should be posting this
youtube.com
youtube.com
probably my favorite piece of music in all of vidya
I think Howl's. Don't remember exactly, but you're in the right ballpark.
Now I hate HS/SS, even though those were my favorite Pokemon games. I forgot about playing Crystal back than.
Thanks for giving it to me Jonathan. I'm pretty sure you're gay now. But fuck you for tearing off the label.
Anyone posted Ballad of the Wind Fish yet?
I think this is the best example. Not going to lie, gets me a bit choked up.
Why can't we go back? I just want to experience this grand adventure for the first time again.
Hopping on the HM2 train
youtube.com
I love this song, something about its vibe keeps me coming back to listen again and again.
youtube.com
We need a good Berserk game that isn't Musou. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it does turn out to be actually good, though.
youtube.com
Limbo is a wonderful game.
Pepe is stuck in the eternal cycle of cynicism, whereas Wojack has achieved enlightenment.
Play a sad one, Joe
This is now my favorite retro game track.
youtube.com
comfy as fuck
Came in to post this. Cave Story was special, man.
...
This fucking song man.
>you will never again wander around with your friends getting into pick up fights with random alliance doing the same
>you will never again lead the charge on the undefended wall with your mates and win the battle for the Horde
>you will never again hide from 20+ alliance with your friends in your secret guild headquarters in the walls
>you will never again spend entire nights just hanging out in the comfiest zone, doing nothing but fishing, mining, and pvp'ing, waiting in between friend log-ins
>you will never have such peace of mind and heart ever again
m.youtube.com
This title screen music gives me goosebumps
youtube.com
Merely typing the name of it makes me sad.
>tfw never going to play Bloodborne because it had to be PS4 exclusive
Fuck you Sony.
Mass Effect used to mean so much to me. Fuck.
youtube.com
youtube.com
youtube.com
This game should not have this much weight
youtube.com
君のこと、ずっと忘れない
youtube.com
My favorite track from Metroid Prime.
I kind of miss Aion and the people I used to play it with.
youtube.com
Six fucking years ago.
V had some really good stuff.
Perfect name for the level it was for.
youtube.com
Say whatever the fuck you want about the dlc, but the final moments of LISA:The Joyful left me weeping.
All of Etrian Odyssey's 5th dungeon themes have a sort of grand yet melancholy feel to them, like you know your journey's about to end
youtube.com

This always throws me back to simpler times gaming and crunching out wintergrasps during WotLK with friends in the snowy winter while drinking hot chocolate

"Mom, I just want you to know that I'm sorry for all I done wrong. I know I made you feel like you let me down, but you taught me good ma. You taught me that sometimes one has to make hard choices. Well I've made my choice ma, by the time you get this I'll probably be dead. But just know that I died for something I believed in. And remember that I done good and that I fought hard."
...
Good bulk of DKC2's soundtrack is melancholic:
youtube.com
youtube.com
youtube.com
youtube.com
>This song
Every time.
I unironically enjoy this
>2:48
nobody ever remembers how fucking good the Minecraft soundtrack is
youtube.com
Literally one of the best OSTs in vidya history.
Nobody posted the GTA V pause menu theme. GOAT level melancholy.
youtube.com
I wasn't ready for this thread.
Weird how a game I played almost two decades ago is still so clear in my mind.
This was beautiful and glorious
youtube.com
Might be my favorite FF.
idc what people say i enjoyed the hell out of the game, even with the janky coop system in it
youtube.com
>this wasn't posted yet
too common?
youtube.com
Say what you want about it, but it felt good to hear this again after all those years.
>tfw i cant find a lossless oblivion rip anywhere
HOW HAS NOBODY GOTTEN THIS DONE YET
DID BETHESDA NEVER RELEASE A CD OST?
I GOT KING KONG IN THE TRUNK
>SM64 credits
This hits like a truck every time.
you'll be eternal in my heart
going online for the last day and remembering how many good hunters i made friends with was really nostalgic. it actually made me sad
dope
youtube.com
This one always gets me
This is why I love video games ;_;
why is the ending theme to a kart racer more emotional than 99% of any jrpgs ending theme?
...
Man, Black and White were pretty much forgettable in terms of story, but holy fuck was this the coolest easter egg. A small chain of events in an entirely pointless area changed its tone from being just another route to a thriving little community brought together by music.
That beatbox is the real MVP there.
>I've seen this live
Fuck, meant to post this with it
>Black and White were pretty much forgettable in terms of story
uhhh its literally the only story thats decent in th e main pokemon games. fuck its the only story in the main games that even follows a basic fucking plot structure
>no one has posted Eryth Sea yet
Except someone already did.
I haven't seen it in this thread and people might disagree with me but this one right here is the epitome of melancholy in vidya music to me.
>Post beautiful melancholic music from games
>Spend hours building up my civilization, constructing buildings and wonders, conquering rivals as need be.
>Get to modern age.
>Plays this : youtube.com
>My God, this fucking world is so goddamn empty and lonely. Why the fuck did I spend hours moving bits on a fucking silicon machine like a loser. Did it matter? Does ANYTHING matter. Fuck...
Sounds like youtube butchered and disfigured the low tones.
youtube.com
I've lost time and time again... but now I've finally won.
Comfy af though
The song always gives me a feeling of extreme sadness but also closure with it, and a sort of "new beginnings" vibe. It probably has to do with how important that game was to me during childhood combined with how forlorn the water levels always felt to me when I was younger.

Not sure if this one counts. Sure as hell ain't a happy scene that it plays in.

this track NEVER fails to make me feel
Damn, user.
Well that's pretty cool user.
youtube.com
I could actually choose the classics but i choose this just because it fits with the fact SH is really dead...at least it could rest in peace
it still hurts
youtube.com
I'm not sure, but I think Jirad used a remix of the song in video talking about his Mom after she died: youtube.com
There is something about GameBoy music that makes it especially heart wrenching.
The timing of this song in the game was really good. Going for silence, right when Cloud says ''..When Tifa's mom died.'' and it starts playing. Pretty heavy.
Haven't played it, but that was pretty good.
FFIX was some of the best work Uematsu ever did.
indeed it is...let me just correct us both then:
Already posted.
Ori and the Blind Forest was the most recent game where the soundtrack really left an impression.
This song hit me really hard. There's something about all the phases and emotions it goes through, and then that swell and twist on the leitmotif. It feels like setting out on an adventure and never coming back, running the gamut of apprehension, anxiety, excitement, determination, wistfulness.
Totally removed from the context in which it was actually used though.
I would've been a lot more unhappy with the Crashed Frigate had it not been for that track.
Same with most of Metroid Prime 2.
Alexander Brandon (Guy who makes Deus EX music)
youtube.com
This game aslo has one of the best music at that time
>Alexander Brandon
Didn't he also make music for Unreal?
Well, I just learned that Final Fantasy Adventure was a Seiken Densetsu game.
Thanks for bringing those memories back.
guess so, he was working for Epic Games back then
Who is up for the task of creating a playlist of all the tracks posted ITT? I could do it but you'd have to wait some hours for it.
>Seiken Densetsu(JP)
>Final Fantasy Adventure(US)
>Mystic Quest(EU)
Meanwhile..
>Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest(JP)
>Final Fantasy Mystic Quest(US)
>Mystic Quest Legends(EU)
Great localisations there, Square.
youtube.com
If you played runescape in your past, you should feel something
Honestly there are a lot of Undertale tracks that can be posted but it'd be good not to spam the thread
I could do it, but why bother? Just add them to a personal playlist.
youtube.com
youtube.com
All of Final Fantasy games have great themes but these two take the cake
Can't really think of a theme that gets as much of a response from me as much as ff9's theme does, it makes me feel as if I belong in a world long past
Give it some words and
youtube.com
Does this count?
youtube.com
>No crying until the end
I think this is the first time I've seen anybody other than me post this track in a Cred Forumsgm thread. I don't know why, it's beautiful and perfect for its setting.
You have no clue how highly I regard that specific track due to the incredibly strong memory associated with it. Sometimes when I'm drunk I'll put it on and sob to myself.
Getting through Mother was special, if just for that tear I get every time I hear this song.
youtube.com
prob already posted but honestly the first thing that came to mind when i saw the subject
Goddamnit, I can't deal with this right now. Make it stop.
I like the music of this game but I don't think it fit the areas as well as the original
All of the tracks felt to obtuse for exploring an alien world
youtube.com
Sorry...
Suprised no one posted Yume Nikki yet.
youtube.com
youtube.com
Lisa has an adaptation of this song
youtube.com
Probably my favourite song from a video game
youtube.com
When I first heard this song, I just felt so dead. The world was literally burning.
>WotLK came out 8 years ago
>Sorrowful Prince Feelleas
youtube.com
You feel it too, don't you?
I cried bitch tears
Where?
this is, by my count, at least the 4th XBC post in this thread.
Not that there's anything wrong with sharing XBC's fabulous OST
I did not cry.
I just remembered finishing the game and thinking about a loved one who was in a coma at the time. It was one of my first real experiences with death and all that shit, and I never felt so human at the time.
It made me realize my parents were going to leave me someday, because they were human just like me.

Does this count as melancholic?

What's funny is that Roxas is treated as the bigger DeviantartBait than Riku or Sora for whatever reason.
Even though the total amount of time he spends angsting or indecisive is minimal.
Mother fucker jumps the Castle the moment Xion and Axel are MIA, goes looking for them.
Roxas had a hard life, he better be coming back and not in some "He's part of Sora" sorta bullshit
I don't really have much of a family.
I love you, user.
Thank you for this thread

aww hell yeah
as shitty as this game was, and how it did a lot of things I never wanted to see in a zelda game....
I still felt something when Fi was leaving and this played
It really did have a stellar soundtrack
This song is pretty gloomy in a somewhat upbeat way.
youtu.be
Sadly, everyone shits on the game.
It's the most painful kind of melancholic.
Goodbye Claus
>all these great Pokemon songs
>no mention of one of the best B/W tracks
I don't think B/W was the best, but god damn are they a strong entry in the series.

This and Maiden Astraea's battle tmeme are pretty good examples.
I'm going to throw out an odd choice here, and you get it in cover form because I love this version.

And here's a more standard pick I was shocked not to see.

And despite my feelings on the quality of the game, I found this theme to be one that stuck with me.

it's also been remixed in the HD version, some might prefer that:

Good taste.
FE4 has some good songs as far as that's concerned if you ask me:

I'll say one of the biggest things that caught me off guard in the new Guilty Gear game full of metal and over the top anime fuckery was a song like this as it's credits. Really was a nice surprise.
That Tropical Freeze song reminds me of this: youtu.be
At least the intro percussion and strings. David Wise makes good fucking music, man.
FE4 is a gem all around. I was surprised you didn't pick this one though:

Who here only uses the music in this thread to sample it and make beats off it to sell for some easy little money?
I hope Persona 5 does come out to be a great game, but even if it's better I doubt I'll be able to strike the same cords that Persona 3 was able for me.
I'll be honest, it's been a while since I played the game and I was just picking out the songs from memory. I'm surprised I forgot about this one, though it might be because it's pretty short.

This whole game, though.
Feeling it.
Gothic 3 was fucking amazing unpolished gem. Really suck how history turned out. If it wasn't for Joowood we would have another CDPR-alike big studio that makes greatest EU RPGs
WHY CAN'T WE HAVE NICE THINGS
I come here to collect background music for streams, since vidya music almost never gets matched.
Could be, I didn't think to add it at first due to that.
Speaking of which, here's another two picks, though non FE.
thank you based god
FO4 was a bad game, but I thought this was good music.

Not melancholy, that's dread
i was gonna post that earlier...

This piece from GW2 gets me everytime: youtube.com
I never said it was melancholic. I just said I enjoyed it. Though, that part was nice too. TP was mostly OoT nostalgia pandering, but man am I a sucker for nostalgia.
This game had really good music.

You can't talk about melancholy in vidya music without mentioning Tomohito Nishiura's works. Seriously, the guy sounds like he needs a hug or something.

Took me no less than 40 fucking minutes to find every one of those GUN soldiers. Everything just looks the same.
>GUN Soldiers
user I think you mean Artificial Chaos, which are much worse.
What? No, I meant when you had to run around the entire station to heal the wounded fuckers. Am I thinking of a different stage here?
That was the Hero Mission on the anti-hero path. The Doom
Thanks for refreshing my horrible memory with a horrible memory, user.
