Nothing every struck me as particularly western about Gdańsk or surrounding areas. That being said, there doesn't have to be a negative connotation about being an "Eastern" country. It just comes off as silly when people try to pass of their one special snowflake Eastern European country as Central European and only the other guys are Eastern. It's like being a 13 year old, but going around telling everyone that you're almost 14.
