Just keep practicing. Get someone that you can talk to regularly, like actual voice chat and not text messages. It helped me a lot. The girl I mentioned earlier in the thread can't speak english at all, so chinese is the only option when I talk to her.

I used to eat there every day after school. While I can understand the locals, I think it's sad that it changed so much after I left.

Well, they're not wrong... sadly. I found that most people don't really know a lot about Sweden (which is understandable since we're irrelevant). When I tell someone I'm swedish, they usually mention Volvo, IKEA and swedish meatballs. Either that, or chocolate and watches, which means they confused Sweden and Switzerland.

That's what I decided to do. Zhejiang accent or Taiwanese accent without overdoing it sound the most natural to me.

I reccomend only going to Amsterdam for the musea and checking out smaller Dutch cities like Utrecht, Leiden and Haarlem instead to actual get a glimpse of what historical Dutch cities are like. Do not go to Giethoorn, it's a trap.

I plan on studying Chinese at a university for a year (full-time mandarin course) - I was planning on Beijing or Xi'an, but now I'm considering Taipei. My main complaints are that Taiwan seems too relaxed for me and I need some more adventure after living in Japan, but it's more accessible.

There are numerous Chinese languages, such as Hakka and Cantonese and also dialects of those languages such as Sichuan hua which is a dialect of mandarin chinese.

Beijing at this point is probably more expensive than Taipei, right? It also seems harder to find a decent apartment.
