Al Pacino

Why has his career never been that great?

He's considered one of the greatest actors of all time, sometimes the greatest - yet he only really has The Godfather and Scarface.

Compare that to De Niro who's had Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, The Deer Hunter, Cape Fear, those Ben Stiller movies.

Why is Al's CV so EMPTY?

Cocaine

Serpico's pretty classic.
Also, who could forget about S1M0NE

What about Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon? Or Devil's Advocate?

He didn't go to Gloucester Community College.

You're forgetting Heat

literally only because he was in the Godfather and has some memorable lines

he's pretty mediocre as an actor

in terms of acting, he gets BTFO by De Niro in that

The real question is which of them has been in the fewest shitty movies?

>Heat
>Good

Dunkacino Dunkacino

ATTICA! ATTICA!
REMEMBER ATTICA!?

not really

>Heat
>not good

Are you a retard?

Heat, Carlito's Way, Dog Day Afternoon, The Panic in Needle Park, Glengarry Glen Ross, and The Insider are all great.

Scarface on the other hand is pretty shit

Fuck you for not including Dog Day Afternoon or Serpico, Donnie Brasco, Panic in Needle Park & Glengarry Glen Ross.

It's like you're intentionally talking shit, user.

I will chop your fucking head off

He's right tho, Heat is pleb shit.

I hated that movie.

disagree about Scarface being shit.

but yeah if you add all those, and Heat, and the ones OP mentioned, that's a pretty strong career

dumb premise for a thread.

But the acting was good

anything Michael Mann is patrician of patrician

Mann just uses really mainstream forms so the ordinary people don't get that he's actually making art films

Found the redditor.

I can't understand that.

he lost his fucking mind at some point and just started shouting instead of acting.

he's frankly embarrassing in Heat, a film in which even Val Kilmer delivers a more believable performance than him. The last good flick he was in was Devils Advocate just because it was fine for him to spend the whole film being ridiculous.

>Didn't even name Pacino's best role.

Bravo Nolan

Its pretty clear most posting in this topic arent fully aware of Pacinos body of work.

His best work, aside from The Godfather I & II, is definitively the stage-influenced films such as Glengarry Glen Ross, Chinese Coffee etc.

Scarface is far from his best work and neither is Heat. Just because you like a film it doesnt mean Pacino's performances are noteworthy.

>he only really has The Godfather and Scarface

i hate this fucking board

It's really amazing how the meaning of the word 'pleb' even reaches new heights here, like showcased by OP where he doesn't even name his other extremely popular films he did (Like Carlito's Way).

It's like the plebbiest of the plebs having 'film discussion'

>yet he only really has The Godfather and Scarface.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHHHAHA

>Serpico
>Dog Day Afternoon
>...and Justice for All
>Scent of a Woman
>Heat

You can suck my shiny little dick now you faggot

Al Pacino has had a great career. He's one of the best actors of all time. You're extremely mistaken, OP.

Being a great actor doesn't necessarily mean every project you do is great. But you're so full of shit.

How can you not know Serpico, Carlito's Way, Dog day afternoon, Heat, Scent of a woman, Glengarry Glen Ross, the Insider..? Shit, he was phenomenal in Dick fucking Tracy, a 90s goddamn comic book movie.

>Only has 3 films in IMDB's top 250
>Good career

Fuck off

Oh fuck off.

Scent of a woman is goat

Easiest (you)s you'll ever make.

Did you watch Heat? he's a god damn cartoon in that.

you say that like that's a bad thing

Mann's movies are fantasies. they're hyperreal.

and Pacino was very affecting in that. it's not like he was doing that over the top shouting the whole time. that was like one scene.

>Chris O'donnell plays the lead, his career briefly skyrockets only to crash and burn, now stuck on a NCIS spin off with nobody really giving much thought to him
>Phillip Seymour Hoffman only has a minuscule part, slowly builds a career over the years with other small parts, ultimately becomes thought of as an actor's actor, revered even after his overdose death

Really makes you think.

Sorry, but what's your point?

Cruising
Dog Day Afternoon
Serpico
The Godfather I and II
Donny Brasco
Scarface
Scent of a woman
Devils advocate

You what, mate?

The Panic in Needle Park
The Godfather
Serpico
The Godfather Part II
Dog Day Afternoon
Scarface
Glengarry Glen Ross
Scent of a Woman
Heat
Donnie Brasco
Carlito's Way
Insomnia
Make of that list as you will and I guess I do see where you're coming from in terms of 'greatness' but a young Pacino was a fantastic actor and was much more subtle with a nuanced screen presence than what he would later become

Agreed. He was still great in his later years, but I love his early movies more

I like understated, nuanced young Pacino, and I also like older Meme Pacino

scarface, godfather, heat serpico, dog day afternoon

He worked pretty sporadically during the 70s and 80s and that's when the directors still had creative freedom

And who can forget his FINEST ROLE TO DATE

youtube.com/watch?v=2S6eUFbOfIU

GREAT ASS

and you've got your head

ALL THE WAY UP IT!

scent of a woman haha

>those ben stiller movies
>great
meet the parents was the only decent one, fockers and little fockers were pure schlock

cruising

You must have brain cancer OP.
Also fuck you, Scent of a Woman was fucking great you pleb.

Scent of a woman you fucking faggot

youtube.com/watch?v=jR7y7g8h1y4

great acting right here OP

it's weird to think that probably like 80% of the 70s and 80s gay scene died of AIDS

also, what ever happened to all these 'tough' manly gays. I live in the Bay Area and they're all a bunch of pansies. even the really buff ones.

not that, lol, I'm looking, it's just that video makes me realize they used to be into actually being manly back then.

and dog day afternoon.

...

>80% of the 70s and 80s gay scene died of AIDS
Those were the tough ones.

Another guinea who can only do one character.

He had Jack and Jill

ah yes, michael corleone and his carbon copy tony montana

Pacino and Deniro committed career seppeku when they made a movie about how government propaganda actually operates.

Here comes the pain!

BUT SHE HAD A GREAT ASS

>Pacino was in Wag the dog

Going senile Bob?

fight me faggot
