>>the oishi style rip-off squad have no weight behind their directing Second Season blows Bake out of the water though.
Carson Long
still better than bones and dogakobo after five good years, and just as many bad years as Kyoani had to go through, long term it's hard for any studio to keep making the same type of shows
Jackson Lee
Eh, I still end up liking most the stuff they put off. The only SHAFT shows I've disliked in the past few years are Mekakushitty (shit script and series compsition) and Nisekoi (shit source material).
Jose Howard
>barely any sakuga in their shows But when the good animation shows up it tends to be amazing though. Kizumonogatari has got some amazing animation, I doubt Koe no Katachi can compete in that regard.
Joshua Cook
Shaft will probably attempt one more "Big Hit" now that its desperate and Monogatari/Madoka no more brings cash, and if fails just shrink down to what its been before vegetating and producing stuff like Maria Holic and Sasami-san
Nisio adaptations lost their magic, mostly because people get to used to the repetition and shit direction, and not even Nisios best work adapation now attracts attention since its Shaft.
My bet would be however, Shinbo trying again what he loves most, doing Vampires - and making ANOTHER vampire anime, possibly switching from Nishio train to Narita with Vamp! or somethign.
Lincoln Mitchell
>I doubt Koe no Katachi can compete in that regard. Few Umetsu scenes dont make a movie look any decent compared to perfect nuanced 100% of time character animation of KnK.
Mason Foster
>poor at character portrayal I disagree. Kizumono is great in that regard.
Ethan Garcia
Umetsu's work wasn't even the best in Kizu, there are many better cuts in the movie. Kizu has a fair amount of good character animation too.
Wyatt Bell
You put up the wrong sign mate.
Colton Young
>tfw love both SHAFT and KyoAni shows
Isaac White
KyoAni atm is at top form, likely better than ever and all they need is to get some good material to adapt.
Shaft atm is roting and decaying, and needs to die and start anew. All the talented people left, style of direction and visuals is outdated and people fed up with it. Even best material cant save Shaft since Shaft will find way to fuck it up and underperform.
Jaxson Hall
>no szs season 4 >the seven year laugh is now being post-dated

I think the sad part about Shaft is that I consider anything that isnt more fucking bakemono original at this point, even if its just a manga adaptation.
I mean enough is enough at this point, the BD sales have dropped from their original 80k to nearly 30k ffs
Isaac Gutierrez
The monogatari is going to continue being milked until sales stop be profitiable. The reason why the monogatari series even existed for so long is because of the anime. Nisio could of had stop at any point, but apparently was impressed by the effort put into the anime and was inspire to keep writing more which leads to the constant milking we keep getting of this franchise.
Camden Bell
fuck nisio risuka deserves an adaptation
Isaac Williams
>all this Shaft hate I mean, whatever. It's just the cycle of hating whatever is popular as usual. But to be honest I still like what they do. Don't really see a problem.

William Watson
Everything not named Monogatari since 2011 has flopped. Everything. And nowadays even the Monogatari movies are flopping hard with tickets and BDs underperforming.
Caleb Evans
Rebellion did fucking great
Isaac Perry
It's still sells well for something that been dwindling in popularity as more time goes by. I doubt other series would of had last this long of a milking that Monogatari has been through. The movies definitely could of done better when it was still at it's prime, but those days are over. I'm just glad the movies even exist since I thought they've been cancelled after hearing nothing about it for so long.
James Baker
I thought we were talking about TV shows. But yeah Madoka sold really fuckig well.
Kevin Smith
I was talking about the numbers of everything else. Shaft is trash when it comes to selling anything not named MadoGatari.
Jacob Smith
Yeah that's true. Hopefully they able to adapt good works in the future so they can get out of that rut.
Charles Rivera
Hidamari Sketch is Shaft's best work
Nathaniel Collins
>Everything not named Monogatari since 2011 has flopped
Since 2012 onwards and ignoring Madoka

Flop: >KoGraffiti - 1.5k >Salami - 1.5k
Isaac Smith
Ironically the flops were the only decent Shaft shows made since 2011
Isaac Perez
Why are their obscure shows so much more enjoyable than the more mainstream ones? I think Hidamari is the only one I've truly enjoyed out of the most notable big ones but I find their lesser known work better.
Noah Ward
Madoka and Monogatari are easily their best work.

Jonathan Rodriguez
Gokumi. Oh wait...
Grayson Martin
Will 2017 be the year of God Link?
Joseph Barnes
Kagerou was a huge flop, first of all there was a massive advertising campaign like all Aniplex shows, and second the episodes sold for fucking 3k yen each, meaning that even the 7k sales they had were really 3k at best.
Christian Cook
Doesn't that have to do with the fact they got the original author to storyboard the show instead of directing it themselves?
Gavin Rodriguez
>idol >not bad
Thomas Moore

Nathan Morris
Idolshit is the cancer of modern anime.

Connor King
The golden standard for SoL is K-On my little newfriend.
Elijah Reyes
What did it do that biyori didn't massively improve upon?
Did K-Off deal with the life and death cycle?
Didn't think so.
Nicholas Allen
Last Shaft show that had actual Shinbo style and actual animation where they attempted to give a fuck was Vampire Bund. After gaining Monogatari S1 money, Shaft attempted to step up with this show and failed majorly - after that returning to no risk poor formula and only having breakthrough thanks to Madoka.
Still, nowhere past Vampire Bund you`ll see the kind of animation (also occasionally, as usual half episodes were poor as fuck) Shinbo actually strives to do since SoulTaker times. Even the new 3gatsu is just another pseudo-monogatari visual iteration.
Shaft is dead. What we have now is merely a roting corpse.
Brody Sanchez
>What did it do that biyori didn't massively improve upon?
K-On had better characters, animation, voice acting, theme songs.
NNB had marginally better backgrounds though.
Carson Scott
Then Shino and co should come to God Link.
Jackson Flores
I noticed you didn't say plot or story though.
Chase Cox
Because both NNB and K-On have barely any. SoLs are entirely character driven. The characters make the show, and guess which has the better ones? Hint, not NNB.
Jeremiah Foster
They gave quite a fuck about Madoka, pleb. For a look at what that show would've been like without Shinbos style or his friends in Inu Curry , go no further than the mediocrity of yucky tuna or daybreak illusion.
Asher Hernandez
Depends. Sol != Sol
Sols can be melancholic, healing, gag comedy, even tragic. Entirely different things.
K-On has little in common with NNB as both have little in common with Yuruyuri and Azumanga or them with Mushishi or Planetez.
Best sols are gag sols and proper ranking is : 1) Ichigo Mashimaro 2) Minami-ke 3) everything else
Jace Rogers
>soultaker and vampire bund animemaru doesn't need new writers.
Samuel Morris
And how exactly are the k-offs more developed and interesting than the biyoris?
It's official, the kyoanus coven has replaced madofags as the bane of Cred Forums.
Luke Taylor
Madoka is a lucky Aniplex mutant. It did infact, nothing new compared to the actual classic- Sailor Moon adaptation by Ikuhara (albeit its achievement to properly replicate it, which Toei in new version failed utterly).
Get your eyes checked. This scene right here is more beautifully animated than anything in KnK. And the character animation in Kizu was even better than KyoAni's too.
>6 years hand drawn unlimited aniplex budget and outsourcing.
Nathaniel Nguyen
That damage control.
Nice cherrypicking which isn't even that bad because what is style? But I guess KyoAnus lickers wouldn't know since you all think animation should look more closely reflect film than be its own thing. You can criticize the CG backgrounds all you want, but they're very stylish and work well for the movie.
Nice shilling your shitty AMV.
Ayden Bell
>denpa onna it averages 6k per volume

Oliver Ross
It's really fucking embarrassing that Shart spent so much time on Kizumonogatari and it looks like absolute garbage.
Joseph Powell
>Nice cherrypicking which isn't even that bad because what is style? Gumball does this same style and better. There's no excuse for SHAFT. The 3D backgrounds could've definitely used more work, maybe another 6 years.
Colton Richardson
>KyoAnusfags are Cred Forumsmblr Colour me surprised.
Angel Williams
>kizumonogatari looks worse than a cartoon bravo
Eli Jones
I don't hate Shaft because they did SZS and Arakawa in the past but everything after Monogatari has been pretty shit, including Madoka
Angel Perez
>Nice shilling your shitty AMV. You are just envious that single scene of KyoAni anime has more and better animation than worth of Year of Shaft shows and "movies"
sure but it'll take 3 years to color you, and another 3 to color your shadows
Thomas Rivera
Except it doesn't?
If there's one thing Oishi really cares about it's his backgrounds and he clearly puts a shit ton of effort into them. Just because you have the eyes of a 5 year old and think a hastily put together cartoon drawn by Koreans somehow looks better than a well produced movie from Japan doesn't mean it's worse.
Not really. But you can go ahead and tell yourself that if it helps you get to sleep at night.
Robert Roberts
Black Mirai transformation was fucking amazing and unexpected from modern KyoAni, facial expressions and character animation, voice acting was on point in Mirai-hen, they even improved the action and effects. I can't wait for Violet Evergarden. Ishidate is getting better.
Lucas Martinez
>Oishi really cares about it's his backgrounds and he clearly puts a shit ton of effort into them. It doesn't really show in Kizu. Most backgrounds look rushed.
Carson Thompson
Literally just your opinion.
Kayden Perry
is there any hope for studio shitposting?
Daniel Brown
Glad Yamada and Ishidate are improving but I'm still mad that Ishihara and Takemoto haven't done anything worth a damn in while
they need to promote someone else to series director
Asher Watson
literally a fact
Hunter Phillips
If Takeuchi were ever going to leave or do something relevant, he'd have done it ages ago. I think he's decided to spend the rest of his life working at SHAFT doing minor jobs and not exercising his actual talent.
Levi Ramirez
For hundreds time, Ishihara does Hibike. Yamada too, but Ishihara does pretty much most storyboards and job since Yamada is slacking and working on KnK, so it is by all means "his" show.
Takemoto got anime for his fuckbuddy Gotoh, Amagi -and since FMP didnt went to KyoAni, was tasked with Free movie. I`d love to see Gotoh and Takemoto pair for something like Hyouka again, but doubt it since Gotoh should be busy with FMP anime.
Jaxson Harris
lol ok
Thomas Sanchez
Unfortunately, studio-shitposting will continue and increase in intensity again because of KyoAni's latest success with A Silent Voice, which triggers Shaft-fags, and because both Shaft and KyoAni are having a drama anime airing in 11+ days.
Mason Powell
3gatsu shitposting will be only in begining, for week or two - after that Shaft fanboys will drop it realizing its not the masterpiece they can defend, and threads should be fine for manga fags that can get over the fact that Shinbo slaugthers good source and few of those who remain watching it since like the story. And should be calm until first sales results.
Elijah Nguyen
Oonuma a shit. Also Shaft did Hidamari Sketch and they're gonna do Sangatsu next month.
Grayson Fisher
3gatsu is also a very female centric show. I doubt the bulk of Cred Forums will even care enough to have constant threads about it, manga threads before the announcement were almost nonexistent, even for a monthly manga.
Logan Baker
>not the masterpiece they can defend It will be a masterpiece though since Shinbo is actually directing.
>Shinbo slaugthers good source Where do you get this idea from? He's probably the best known director for working very closely with the creator of the source. Hell, he even let Jin do the screenplay for Mekaku which was way too much for him.
Samuel Nelson
user, you don't understand. It could be a daytime kids' show and people would still shitpost abuot it, simply because it's a SHAFT show in the same season as a KyoAni show.
Jordan Brown
>Where do you get this idea from? from everything shown so far looking worse than Honey and Clover which was years ago and is standard for Umino adaptation, instead theres typical steril monogatari light
Jace Johnson
>standard for Umino adaptation how can it be a standard when it's literally the only other adaptation of her work
Bentley Sullivan
Not at all. Most objectively bad shows from SHAFT get no attention whatsoever past the first couple of episodes. See Mekaku, Vampire Bund, Graffiti, Sasami.
Benjamin Myers
their best show was the cooking one. very comfy
Caleb Martin
I predict the first two stalker threads to be right after hibike and 3-gatsu.
Tyler Jones
don't you ever get bored of posting the same thing every day
Landon Peterson
Nah, been through years of studio wars shitposting and it mostly goes on BEFORE shows air. Denpa Onna, Sasami, Koufuku Graffiti, Maria Holic, even Nisekoi to a degree - theres always what you call "shaft fanboy" or maybe trolls pretending to be, that are desperately hyping stuff and seeking confrontation - often having no real clue of the source, as in this case, but once it turns different as expected they disappear and after that it becomes pretty calm for both sides.
Jack Rivera
>Sasami >bad
Camden Sanchez
Because its pretty much perfect? (visual, characters and mood wise at least. Story issues are different).
There are certain expectations, and to properly transit Umino`s manga, HnC pretty much hit the spot. Even purely from technical standpoint 3gatsu looks poorer than it in execution (though should wait for it to actually air, PVs dont show too much aside sad confirmation that Shaft cant do straight show and does indeed apply to it its typical gimmics).
Hudson Harris
...
Brody Gonzalez
It was good. However as adaptation it was worse than Kyouran Kazoku Nikki by same author. And it was fucking Studio Nomad that Shaft lost to.
Gavin Smith
>Because its pretty much perfect? Oh, nice opinion
Dominic Gutierrez
>shaft animation of key point of the show, Shogi, is worse than damn basketball fujoshit show
Josiah Thomas
How much different it is from the source? I'm kinda curious now.
Isaac Sanchez
>Their future looks bright. >back to adapting the most generic of generic harems as their next show
Austin Adams
like that one guy in this thread praising Kizu?
William Cooper
Sasami and KKN are in the same universum. Both novel series are pure gag, but with a sinister serious occult side. KKN got fun focus of the novels better, while the Sasami felt less of a comedy, and more the usual Shaft gimmics for sake of it (and not for sake of being hillarious which was Authors intent) i.e. turned comedy into more of a episodic gatari.
Despite the comedy though, speciality of the author is that with his truly insane Excel saga like characters and humor, the actual happenings in the world are real - forces no matter how comedic they might appear do exist there, have real power and dark stuff happens in background and when story leads to it very real on surface.
Ancient gods, Kthulu (present in both series, also would have appeared in Sasami in S2), aliens, evil cults etc. Sasami focused (wrongly) more on a drama side becoming quite boring - forgetting the the key appeal of the author is the "edge" - balancing insane fun and sinister aspects.
KKN while appears as pure gag comery, is in fact - a story pretty much Baldurs Gate 2 about son of Baal destroying the world, a very real danger and main appeal is most stuff happening appearing in different light and no matter how crazy fitting and making sense.
Robert Reyes
...
Aaron Evans
Thanks for clarifying. Do you recommend the KKN anime? Unlike Sasami, it doesn't have an active translation project.
James Ward
>tfw Hibike will outsell 3 gatsu and shaftfags will be mad as fuck

Ryan Nelson
"Animation should more closely reflect film than be its own thing ".
I find myself agreeing more and more with John K. lately. If you never want to do things in animation that you can only do in animation, you might as well just film it in 3dpd.
Is that what the kyocultists mean when they say kyoanus films anime?
Caleb Foster
>thinking that sales matter for an NHK show :^)
Juan Parker
Almost as dumb as thinking it will be a success just because it airs on NHK
Carter Roberts
2ch projected 10k+
Luke Gutierrez
2ch projections are always off. I predict 3k and I'm almost always right.
Chase Rogers
What are the Japs saying/speculating about it?
Adrian Miller
The original author was in charge of the series composition, but selling one episode per disc was probably Aniplex's idea so the relatively young fanbase can just buy the episode about their favorite character. Didn't work out so well as you can see.
The main artist is directing the short movie and will be involved with the reboot anime in some way, so we'll see how that turns out.
Ryder Williams
funny enough is Umino herself hate HnC adaptation
Kevin Sanchez

Jin only wrote the script, Yuki Yase was the director, who is pretty much a newbie. Mekakucity was the first series he directed. and he only really directed two episodes, the rest were either shaft guys or some random nobodies
Nakura's episode was great though
Lucas Jenkins
That's a cute Madoka near his hand also.

Sasami wasn't bad. It was plain terrible.
Connor Martin
Honestly the movie isn't looking to great on the visual front either, excited for Sidu's storyboards though
Jack Sullivan
Because Triggerniggers, unlike shaftards and kyoanusshitters, are bros.
Dominic Gutierrez
Only Godani is anything close to good.
Shaft is a Deen-tier joke at this point, and Trigger is even more of a joke.
Luis Brown
Trigger is good when they try to be like KyoAni.
Kiznaiver ep 7 resembled Takemoto's Chunibyo episode a lot.
Connor Ward
Their fault for using a shitty manga to be adapted.
>yucky tuna Oh wew lad.
Caleb Martin
The Shounen Hollywood character designer is what gets me the most.
Levi Reyes
Dude, I like the characters but Shaft managed to butch adaptation that added original filler or just changed it to the point even nips were mad.
William Long
How can Monogatarifags defend this? I laughed out loud. Not only is the directing shit, it's pretentious and tryhard.
Andrew Moore
>Vampire Bund >Soultaker Those anime were embarassing and the proof you can't trust Shinbo with action shows. If you're trying to make current Shaft looks good, then congratulations.
Ryder Bell
No way, shit, pretentious AND tryhard?
Lucas Cruz
Yeah, outstanding, isn't it?
Chase Ross
Well, it is pretty yucky.
No one remembers it now, and you'll need hypnosis to remember it after White Fox's new meguca show.
Logan Davis
Too bad the story came out from Okada's vomit.
Mason Davis
>buzzwords It's not the pinnacle of direction by any means, but come on user, give a little substance to your argument outside of shitty (You) baiting.
Angel King
You don't think it's trying really hard? You don't think it's trying to look profound when in fact there's zero substance to it?
Jose Ward
I need a longer staff list, there has to be some talent here besides Sidu. The character designer and art director are literally nobodies. Maybe we might get some KA from abegen?
Matthew Long
Then why it has generals, huh?
>White Fox's new Meguka I hope you don't mean Raising Project because both have different focus.
Luke Wood
he did one season of Hidamari Sketch though
Angel Mitchell
Not him, but I don't think it's trying to look profound.
Henry Barnes
Kyoukai is proof you can't trust post-2012 kyoanus with grimderp. Evergarden is a Munto-tier disaster in the making.
Luke Cook
I wouldn't say it's trying to look deep, but it's trying way too hard to look visually interesting.
Colton Clark
Not with those dialogues user.
Kevin Adams
I fucking hate KnK too, so I don't get your point. I guess you're a studiowar kid.
Wasn't White Fox's mahou shoujo something called Matoi the sacred slayer?
Caleb Morgan
Replying to "Shinbo can't be trusted with action".
Kevin Perry
Evergarden will be grimderp.
Xavier Edwards
>He hasn't seen Mahoromatic
Ian White
Such a shame.
Elijah Rivera
Factually wrong on both, it's well known that SZS is their best work.
Matthew Foster
The one in charge of the story is not reliable at all post Gundam 00 S1 and that director is a literal who while the anime seems more about magical idols.
You're just making a bet without something to back it up.
Levi Lewis
And they hired Sphere for the songs.
Austin Wright
>Mahoromatic
>SHAFT??
Angel Long
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Hidamari Sketch is their best work.
Cameron Parker
Oh, ok. Well, I agree. KyoAni can't do action shows. TSR is still their only valuable contribution which is crazy for a studio known for its consistent animation quality.
Jack Nelson
Despite being a co-prod, Mahoromatic is almost completely Gainax if you look at the staff. And it shows.
Tyler Peterson
I don't think there's anything wrong with the actual action itself in Munto and Kyoukai, the scenes with lots of effects animation were especially great to watch as their animators tend to draw effects very beautifully. They just need to draw from better source material the next time they do another action series.
Benjamin Gomez
Has Shinbo or anyone else at Shaft ever said anything good (or bad) about Kyoani or any other studio?
Likewise, has anyone at Kyoani ever said anything good or bad about Shaft (or any other studio)?
Camden Rogers
I think they'll do well after monogatari adoptions are finished, they've gained enough money to choose what they adapt at this point, and if they can make every episode of the monogatari series watchable despite the overly long and circling conversations in it, I feel they could make any show watchable.
Plus maybe they will continue zetsubou-sensei
Michael Nguyen
Some of Shinbo's influence on Takemoto has shown up, but I don't know if they've ever explicitly said anything
Benjamin Powell
>Plus maybe they will continue zetsubou-sensei Keep dreaming
Ryder Green
Munto is the only Kyoani show I haven't seen so I can't speak about it. But Kyoukai has problems because good animation isn't enough for good action scenes. It looked very pretty but had no impact whatsoever. You need good direction for this, that's why someone like Imaishi is able to trick people into thinking his shows look great with a bunch of stills.
And of course the show sucks because the story and characters are shit, but it's another problem.
Lincoln Perez
Somehow they are adapting fate extra. I never gave a fuck about shaft, but I'm jumping on the hate train if they fuck up best fate game adaptation.
Connor Morris
Is it something I've done?
Jack Ramirez
Your love was too great and your luck too terrible. Everything you enjoy will crumble to dust. Unfortunately I like the same things as you. You have caused me great pain.
Isaac Watson
Kyoukai's action directing wasn't the best, but I didn't have any qualms with it. It worked fine.
As for Imaishi, I don't see anything special with his action directing either but he does have some approaches towards animation to provide impact. He's a follower of Yoshinori Kanada's animation so Imaishi places a lot of emphasis on energetic and exaggerated poses which goes well with snappy movements that don't require lots of drawings. He also has a penchant for rough drawings and shading, so that can be used to give stills impact. It's not the only 'right' approach towards creating impactful action, but it's a style that works.
Christian Ross
No, there's just not much reason for it to happen
Robert Roberts
I went back and re-read some threads before madoka started and i was wrong: anti and pro shaft shitposting threds were totally the same 6 years ago and i'm a bit relieved: Cred Forums is not getting worse, it's always the same as ever
Asher Green
Munto was really fucking bad. It was like 100% exposition the show. They just keep talking about the Akuto over and over and it never stops. The animation was pretty damn good though during the few action scenes that do occur. The direction on the other hand was awful.
Gavin Rivera
The Shaft arch-formalism developed throughout the Mongartari series and perhaps reaching its ultimate expression in Mekakucity Actors, represents an important facet of the studio. Then you have visually traditional works like Denpa onna to Seishun Otaku with nary a head-tilt, which demonstrate Shaft's skill with more conventional modes of storytelling.
Brandon Russell
>seto's pose
what is this child doing
Luke Johnson
You don't talk shit about industry colleagues in Japan even if they're rivals, at least not in public.
The Japanese save all their frustrations with each other for their javanese shadow puppet shows.
Jonathan Wright
>their javanese shadow puppet shows. >Shaft still loves Kyoani ???
Isaac Johnson
>Kyoani can only produce free >When try something else its koe no flop or phantom sales >Talk shit about based shaft Kyoanicucks i swear. All they can do is buzzword and meme around with "hur dur it was b team"
Bentley Thompson
NNB nuked itself by opting for an interquel second season instead of a proper sequel. The magic of SoL shows I found good is the progression; things move forward (Gochuumon, K-ON!) instead of eternally opting for stagnant character dynamics. NNB's first season is fantastic but the second is meh.
Carson Roberts
Bait, bait has changed.
I like it.
Ryder Stewart
Actually the speculation is skewed to SHAFT-fags' advantage since there's no way Hibike S2 will sell more than Hibike S1. Meanwhile 3gatsu's sales can't be predicted just yet.
Jonathan Wood
Fuck you. Repeat was by far better than S1.
Aiden Clark
I'm still pretty sure that Sound! Euphonium S2 will outsell March Comes in like a Lion.
That will say nothing about how enjoyable a show is by itself though.
Jeremiah Morgan
>it's yet another Shaft shitposting episode
Evan Morales
Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei.
Ian Torres
Nisekoi S3 when
Thomas Sanders
they'll never make season 4 though
Kevin Jackson
I'm actually fucking terrified of shaft their fucking polygons and inverted color schemes give me nightmares
Have you seen Ef though Flyhighmakeittothenewworldiseek: the Anime was one of the first shaft shows I seriously watched and I couldn't do it without pausing ever 30 seconds and taking a walk
Gavin Reed
It annoys me that the Monogatari series is what they're focused on but they have to complete or it'll be even worse.
I really hope 3gatsu is good, SHAFT can be good when they want to.
Jose Johnson
I'll confess I haven't, it's been on my backlog for years. Looking at it it doesn't seem that imposing straightaway though.
Liam Watson
This. Kiznaiver proven they can produce quality works and not just imashit.
Carson Rogers
I always thought the simpler the better when it comes to anime fight scenes. Shit like KnK, Madoka Rebellion, or Fate have pretty fights with lots of colors and effects but the choreography and camera work is garbage most of the time. Compare it to shows like Cowboy Beebop, Samurai Champloo, Yozakura Quartet, FMA, or hell even Naruto sakuga fights. You can feel the weight in their punches and there isn't much after effects shit covering the screen.
Carson Cooper
>Their fault for using a shitty manga to be adapted. Shinbo LOVES vampire thematic. SoulTaker, Moonphase, Negima (heh), Vampire Bund, Monogatari.
Totally expecting him to make another Vampire anime.
Gabriel Martin
What the hell? VEG is melancholic/personal drama. There only "grimderp" parts about it could be characters reminiscence about the war.
Michael Davis
It is "shaft" as in worst looking Gainax shows are Shaft co-production: mahoromantic and he is my master, and the quality drop compared to their normal works is very noticable (though mahoromantic is a good show on itself).
Zachary Sullivan
I'd watch Shinbo's Blood Alone.
Jack Powell
Ef and Rec were the only shows in Shaft repertoire that standed out over the pile of generic shinbo crap, because they werent done by Shinbo but by actually talented people. They were exceptions though, since people making them left Shaft.
Oonuma is Silverlink, and Nakamura pretty much freelance working with anyone but Shaft.
Carter Davis
Same.
Wyatt Roberts
Phantom world 12 was fantastic. Same with Miraihen. Evergarden isn't even grimdark anyway.
I have not hear or read anything that stated she hated the adaptation. Only thing I know, she's a Shaftfag and actually befriended some of the staff, including Sugita and the rest of HnC casts.
Ayden Davis
Another season of MariaHolic or Zetsubou will save them.
Hunter Hall
>milking more shit Fuck no. I want them to move past that.
Jonathan Morgan
Life is hard when you're a slave
Kevin Reed
Pretty much this
Cameron Cox
Bake was their last good work and that was 09.
Tyler Bailey
Plus Harumi is now mute. She's a literal Silent Voice now.
;_;7
John Robinson
>only one god-tier scene >in the first third of the movie
Liam Watson
Shaft does the best female centered shows though, because they still come off as otaku centered show
John Gutierrez
show was very moving, especially the grandma part
Jason Nguyen
vampire bund was awful but still had hot /ss/
Chase Flores
There was so much Monogatari to go through and it was so profitable that they had no choice.
Noah Wood
Oishi and his rip-off squad's style make the source material even worse than it is, and you don't even have to like the source material itself to see that. Takes sections of conversations that take around 5 minutes tops to read in a written format, copy-pasted them into an anime and stretches those conversations out over entire episodes. Pads said conversations out with scenery porn and wacky necktwists and you get Bakemonogatari, which everyone praises for it's visual direction for absolutely no good reason.
Not trying to hate on Shaft specifically here but almost any other major would've done a better job with the story barring the fantastic VAs they got hold of.
Kayden Anderson
i like shaft
Parker Morgan
This, Kyoanus should have animated it because they're the best studio and we'd have more Shinka's and it would be like watching Musaigen again
Charles King
So how badly are they gonna fuck it up?
Liam Perez
Takemoto would do a better job at Monogatari.
Evan Martinez
>disliking the shaft shitposting episode shit taste
Asher Reed
they won't, but anti shaft fags will still try shitting on it
Kayden Sanchez
They already fucked up. Not even going to watch it for the laughs.
Connor Fisher
>hasn't even come out yet >it's already shit wew
Zachary Wright
necrobumps the thread?
Matthew Foster
>garbage director >forced samey direction yet again >looks like shit into the trash
Jordan Sanders
>forced meme stop trying so hard
Jonathan Sanchez
>the image that I have on Shaft is "student who isn't honour-student...". Including Shinbo, all staffs in Shaft aren't really a genius >-Ume Aoki, Otona Anime 2011
Ryan Sanchez
>Fucking up my one of my favorite light novels
John Barnes
Thanks, Shart. Can't wait for more QUALITY and lazy storytelling.
Nathaniel King
>tfw can't tell the difference between kyoanus shows because all the characters look the same
>March comes in like a lion (2007~) Shaft_2016 >scored 31 (9+11+11),2012/2013/2014
Ryan Johnson
...
Ethan Gomez
Shiaftshitters consider this good direction.
Jose Miller
monogatari sucks I dropped it after the first season of nisemono
Benjamin Anderson
Shaft's directors are really terrible and need their shit pushed in.
Ryder Bell
I have a feeling that SHAFT uses this style of consecutive fast shots and close ups to hide the fact that there's barely any character animation but to make it look more dynamic.
Cooper Davis
Sometimes I wonder if Cred Forums actually watches anime to enjoy or to shitpost about it later.
Anime discussions have become more generic than the battle harems we get every season.
Dominic Ross
I wish they would ditch Akio Watanabe designs already. I'm fucking sick of them.
Zachary Edwards
Already? Guess you havent watched 95% of shaft anime.
Carson Wood
They should be forced to watch Utena dozens of times to learn how to use quick cuts.
Justin Lopez
Utena is just a wannabe Shaft series.
Matthew Rodriguez
I like shaft, instead of using 3d character models for background characters that completely ruin it, they just do things like image related
it's nice and it's solely focuses on the main characters
Levi Myers
They need to pick up Nichijou.
Asher Fisher
But Monogatari is all they've been shitting out for the past few years.
>Mekakucity Never happened.
Daniel Carter
So having a longer running series is bad now? Thats like saying sunrise only has gintama and gundam.
Nolan Johnson
Fuck no.
Ryder Martinez
That gimmick is at least better than having no background characters at all and making the mood unintentionally desolated like in most SHAFT shows. But I don't see why it would be better than having actual background characters.
Christian Lewis
The only people who whine about SHAFT's "directing" are the same types of fedora wearing faggots who unironically post in those spammy pseudointellectual "How much value do you put into visual direction?" threads.
And both are usually KyoAni fanboys. Hmmm.
Gabriel Richardson
This. Us Shaftfags are above KyoAni for not caring about silly things like competent storytelling.
Tyler Moore
>kyoani >storytelling Ya call me when they work with Key
Owen Sullivan
>kyoanifags confusing pretty and flashy visuals for actual storytelling because "muh visual medium"
Leo Rivera
You lauded literally the worst thing that KyoAni does.
Hudson Peterson
At what point did SHAFT get so shit at storytelling?
Carson Diaz
>kiznaiver >not shit
Noah Myers
When they accepted the shackles. Maybe they'll learn a thing or two if they escape to KyoAni school.
Grayson Edwards
Only on Cred Forums is it bad to work with a larger company that employees you frequently. Never stop being plebs Cred Forums
Liam Davis
this is why depth of field is useful
Caleb Green
diversification of your business portfolio is absolutely key, what Shaft is doing is forgetting business 101 because if Aniplex ever decides to drop them, its fucking over for them
Jaxson Murphy
>NHK series >SJW series >Fate series
Yup modern shaft is not diverse what so ever because aniplex right?
Ryan Torres
Nisho fag here that thinks Shaft slaugthered the novels. Monogatari anime is ok anime, but bad adaptation.
As for studio that could adapt it best, BrainBase - at that time it was still alive and decent and best studio to adapt non pure otaku LNs.
Aiden Martin
>Kiznaiver proven they can produce quality works Kiznaiver was fucking garbage.
Nathan Perez
It's the best thing they do.
Asher Green
Nisiofags here don't think that.
Jason King
>Kyoani storytelling >good Yeah phantom world was really riveting.
Christian Kelly
One bad show doesn't negate their good character driven storytelling, if that was the case there would be no reason for anyone to be a SHAFT fan since they've made objectively more bad shows than KyoAni.
Nicholas Anderson
Koe no Katachi will probably AOTY 2016 for visual storytelling
Chase Hernandez
Utena is made by actual Theatre fag. Proffessional that writes plays, involved in making musicles and stuff, well versed in all specifics and nuances of threatre estetics and storytelling.
>visual storytelling In other words, another overrated anime with flashy backgrounds and one-note characters that have no depth whatsoever
Chase Nguyen
>Shaftfags excuse everytime people point how shitty their shows look >this is ARRRTTTISTIC EXPRESSION YOU PLEB!
Blake Bennett
Yeah, Shaft is pretty bad.
Isaac Bailey
SHAFT anime usually have interesting characters and stories though. KyoAni only has pretty visuals.
Julian Martinez
>Luluco Imashitdrones >still buthurt
Ayden King
Fuck off. Kiznaiver was garbage through and through. The only thing it had going for it was the pretty visuals but even then it stopped looking above average after the second episode.
Nicholas James
This. KyoAni can't even compete.
Justin King
why are kyoani fags so defensive all the time. they ruin every shaft thread.
Blake Clark
Please dont call anime only fags Nisio fags. The main strength of Nisio is his writing language, you know - all those RED and BLACK panels you skip in Shaft shows. Let alone not including many monologues, no focus on important scenes or slaugthering key scenes - like say Hanekawas life at her home.
Main issue is here not "direction style", but that it tries to adapt novels in form of watchable digest for 23 minutes TV episodes, which is wrong approach here. Katanagatari did lot better (and its mostly 40 minutes of talking, but its good adaptation, since talking is all what nisio is about).
In fact, best Nisio adaptation so far, ironically, is not anime but Okitegami Kyouko-san live action.
Jackson Butler
Name a few that arent Monogatari
Cameron Harris
Just give up. 3minutes 40$ per episode budget shows are the fate of Imashit now.
Oliver Sanders
Nisekoi, Mekakucity Actors, and Madoka all have complex characters and strong plots. KyoAngus has fucking nothing.
I remember when 3-gatsu PV came out and some posters were impressed by how the background characters in this particular 1 second shot were moving, claiming how any other studio would've made them 3D or static. They probably have never watched a KyoAni show.
I used to dismiss KyoAni until Hyouka's school festival blew me away.
Aiden Jenkins
No you just fall for baits. Most normal anime fans like kyoani and shaft as well as the 10s of other studios out there. Look at how many IPs are in studio war threads. Its the same losers circle jerking trying to make console wars a thing in anime.
Josiah James
>no one has mentioned Arakawa under the Bridge...
Adam Turner
The faded blurry image look, grey colors and bad lineart are killing me. Its an insult to Umino sensei.
Carter Lee
I always found it funny that every shaftfag has watched every Kyoani show yet I've yet to watch half of Shafts shit
Ayden Cook
Too bad Umino sensei hated jc staff's adaption of her work and asked for Shinbo.
Oliver Lewis
Nice meme.
Thomas Smith
In terms of Monogatari I just started watching Owarimonogatari. Ougi Formula was literally one episode of almost 50 minutes. And on episode 2 there's a different OP already as if it was a different arc. What the fuck am I doing wrong?
Isaac Baker
Interviews are now memes. Great Cred Forums showing its autism once again.
Jacob Torres
you should provide source of that claim lad
Logan Powell
Sorry I assumed Cred Forums was knowledgeable. Guess anitwitter is leagues above Cred Forums.
Julian Murphy
Then leave to there. Why did you even grace us with your omniscient presence?
Jeremiah Jackson
If you watch monogatari you should know there is one OP for each arc, and there are 4 arcs in owari season 1.
Oliver Stewart
>Nisekoi, Mekakucity Actors
Carter Collins
Even KyoAni does better fast cutting.
Camden Green
Shaft's fast cutting looks better, Kyoani's looks a bit awkward
David Butler
>This looks better
Luke Robinson
Based Ishidate.
Logan Fisher
Even as a kyofag that cutting was pretty bad.
Carson Gray
Yes, that's what I said
Adrian Sanchez
there is ONE Shaft show that leaves out background characters
Levi Parker
It amazes me how deluded SHAFTshitters are sometimes. I shouldn't be surprised though since they even hail Mekaku Shitty Actors as a masterpiece.
Grayson Long
You mean one show that leaves them out completely - Monogatari. In the rest they are static white silluetes if present, and when they actually bother to draw them like in 3gatsu - its a sloppy QUALITY mess.
William Barnes
>SHAFTshitters will never know the pleasure of having background waifus
A shame really
Tyler Flores
Wew. even Phantom World wasn't this poorly directed.
Eli Morales
PW wasn't poorly directed at all, it had boring characters and a shit monster of the week plot. Everything else was average or slightly above average for a seasonal anime.
Colton Martin
QUALITY background characters
>kyoani fags will defend this
Ethan Carter
>tiny unsexualizable ass
KyoAnus lickers will defend this.
Noah Johnson
QUALITY background characters frozen in time
Adam Bailey
Why are SHAFT comedic reactions always one frame wiggling for 1 or 2 seconds? It's not that hard to animate them.
Jonathan Harris
It really was at least for a KyoAni show. Their direction involves creating a connection to the characters and Phantom World failed hard at it.
John Lewis
>shaft >animation Shaft style exist solely because they dont have money and schedule for any animation.
Brody Cook
Yet they still make better shows than kyoani
William Rogers
...
Oliver Edwards
at least try
Logan Turner
>Their direction involves creating a connection to the characters and Phantom World failed hard at it. You are just bad and trying too hard.
youtube.com/watch?v=jHVdGigU4vo or the episodes with Fake family or Mushroom kingdom - PW did great job exploring characters and emotionally opening them to the viewer
Alexander Murphy
Reina and Kurumi were hollow characters with no connection created before their stories so they just ended up looking pretty. Also Reina became a background decoration after her episode. 11 did good but at that point the show was basically over.
Landon Richardson
I'd like to see kyoani expirment with new things, it's always the same body, faces and instagram filter they use for every show
Zachary Ortiz
memes e m e s
Josiah Bell
Phantom World and Kyoukai no kanata was them experimenting with new things. And well, you saw how that went.
Mason Price
Nisio himself seems to disagree. Same with 3gatsu's artist, inb4 conspiracy theories.
Michael Perez
Yeah. And Jin loves the Kagerou Days adaptation. Nevermind that it looks worse than fan AMVs
Jaxson White
Seems to be just PR.
Levi Campbell
violet evergarden looks interesting. at least it's not about a high schooler.
Ayden Miller
Miraihen was good
Sebastian Cox
Did she drop the "so unpleasant" shtick? If not, then no it wasn't.
Ryder White
You sound like an autist.
Gabriel Hill
I guess you could say Shaft shafted their own production
Isaac Watson
mirai was the autist with her forced catchphrase.
Zachary Wright
truly SHIT
Wyatt Edwards
and came all over it's viewers with it's great shows
Noah Bailey
>Shaft's 40+ year anniversary event is called Madogatari >In 40 years and after 30+ shows they've only made two relevant anime with over 15k sales
What a sad studio.
Jackson King
Shaft are fucking garbage. Hidamari is fucking moeshit cancer.
Thomas Bailey
>kyoani made 10 shows with 15k+ sales What went right?
Aaron Parker
You SAD moeshit kyoani fanboys would shit on shaft regardless of what they made or its quality.
Noah Gray
Nice false flag, Kyoanus shit eater.
Kevin Walker
Shart isn't going to make anything good again. It's pointless.
Isaac Phillips
Shaft more like Shit amirite
Thomas Gonzalez
3gatsu will sell well.
Samuel Morgan
I predict 3-4k.
Jaxson Adams
jesus christ this thread is still up since last night
can we just accept that both kyoani and shaft have their own faults and strengths and stop talking about "muh sales" or "muh objectivity"
Gabriel Perry
literally forced animation
Luis Wood
No, SHAFT is objectively garbage and KyoAni is objectively good.
Camden Sanchez
People love their teams. They love them to an irrational, obsessive level.
Jason Young
I mean, Jin literally wrote the Kagerou Days adaptation, so I wouldn't be surprised if he liked it. I bet Yuki Yase likes it too.
Joshua Perez
Unfortunately.
thats why im dreading the 3gatsu and the Hibike threads, nothing but studio wars for the first half
Alexander Cook
>Proffessional >musicles >threatre estetics >studend At least Shinbo was kicked out of college and not middle school like you.
Jayden Robinson
>first half What's the meme show this coming season? Drifters?
Jonathan Hill
Funny thing is, Yase actually is a fan of the series, and he put a lot of references to the PV's even if they had nothing to do with the character the episode was about
there was a Lost Time Memory reference in Momo's episode for some reason when they pretty much have nothing to do with each other
Hopefully Yase does better with zaregoto, since he's not bound by a tv schedule and production issues like mekakucity was
Liam Baker
Maybe if they stopped making powerpoint presentations and actually made quality anime with god tier animation and character designs instead of "deep insightful philosophical" anime, maybe they'd finally match KyoAni.
